The Best Point Guard
Chapter 612: Jack is the Only True God
Chapter 612: Chapter 97: Jack is the Only True God
For the fans in China, this was a bittersweet dilemma.
Although many die-hard Yao Ming supporters were heartbroken when the Lakers lost Game 2 at home, most people already knew in their hearts: The Lakers stood no chance of winning the championship.
Little Sheep Su Xi was just too dominant.
Or rather, Goat Su Xi was gunning for the title of greatest of all time.
Yao Ming was very good, of course.
But they weren’t stars on the same level.
Even Kobe wasn’t on Su Xi’s level.
That was already an undeniable fact.
During an interview with TNT, Su Xi was asked for his thoughts on Kobe challenging him to one-on-one duels. Su Xi said, “I could have ignored it, but because it’s Kobe, alright! I’ll show him enough respect to engage in some one-on-ones.”
“Do you think you beat him tonight? I mean in the one-on-ones.”
“If we’re talking about one-on-one, I definitely beat him. I can play off-ball, force isolation plays, and I can attack the paint. These are all things he can’t do. But I’m not going to mock him for it or challenge him to a competition over it.”
“But if you’re talking about dueling in Kobe’s specific style, I don’t think I completely dominated him tonight. Of course, he didn’t win either. I counted, and I scored more points than him. It just wasn’t by a huge margin.”
Su Xi said honestly.
For the fans watching on TV, this had long ceased to matter.
Everyone felt that Kobe’s demands were unreasonable. It was like he was holding a sword while Su Xi was bare-fisted and had to fight with one hand tied behind his back. How was that a fair fight?
The TNT sideline reporter’s last question was: “Do you think the Knicks can sweep the Lakers?”
“I don’t make predictions. It’s pointless. We’ll have to play the games to find out.” Su Xi chose to show the Lakers respect.
After all, he was on pretty good terms with the Lakers.
He had even briefly considered joining Los Angeles back in the day.
But Isaiah Thomas had no such friendly feelings for the Lakers. When the question was put to him, he said bluntly, “Why not? We’d also like to go home and fish early. We’d also like to have a longer vacation.”
Then, the reporter asked him, “The Lakers have Kobe and Yao Ming, the strongest inside-outside duo in the league today. Aren’t you worried they’ll mount a comeback?”
“Why should I be worried? If they’re really as strong as you say, then what are they waiting for? Bring it on. Let us witness this mighty offense of theirs. We can’t wait.”
“Besides, what’s so great about them having Yao Ming and Kobe? We have Goat Su Xi! Goat Su Xi is the greatest of all time, an omnipotent ruler.”
That statement left no room for argument.
The reporter didn’t even know how to ask a follow-up question.
At that moment, Isaiah Thomas asked a question of his own: “Have you ever seen a player more dominant than Jack the Goat? Can you name a single one?”
The reporter was stunned into silence.
Isaiah Thomas walked away, cutting a cool, confident figure.
Meanwhile, fans in front of their TVs were all asking themselves the same thing.
Yeah, has there ever been a player in NBA history as dominant as Goat Su Xi?
The NBA has had many dominant, all-time great superstars.
Bird, Magic, Jordan, O’Neal, Duncan—they were all in that category.
But if you had to name someone more dominant than Su Xi…
…it seemed there really wasn’t anyone.
Jordan was hailed as the most dominant, but even he had contemporary superstars who could trade blows with him.
But since Su Xi entered the league—and he wasn’t even in his prime yet—there was no one who could limit him.
Even with Kobe proposing those restrictive one-on-one duels tonight, the Knicks still won the game.
If things continued on this trajectory, the Knicks winning the championship was an indisputable fact.
In the broadcast booth, Barkley asked O’Neal the same question.
O’Neal thought for a long time before saying, “Jack Su’s dominance is indeed impressive, but if you’re saying he’s the greatest in history, I think that’s still debatable. His first two championships didn’t really showcase that level of dominance.”
“Only after he wins a three-peat with the Knicks can he compare himself to me. And only after winning a fourth championship can he start comparing himself to Jordan.”
Shaquille O’Neal declared.
Barkley said, “I think you’re just being a sore loser. Your championship teams never had this kind of super-dominance. You know, Jack’s opponents are much stronger than yours were back in the day.”
“And can the Knicks’ roster these past two years even compare to the Lakers or the Bulls back then?”
“Why not? The Knicks have two or three All-Stars every year.”
“Don’t you know how Randolph and David Lee made the All-Star team? If you want to compare, let’s compare All-NBA Teams and All-Defensive Teams. Do you dare to put your guys up against that?”
That line from Barkley was a kill shot.
“What’s more, Jack won back-to-back championships by taking down two champion teams, the Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs. He’s also eliminated you, James… and now Kobe, multiple times in the playoffs. If that isn’t dominance, then you guys are even worse than Kenyon Martin and those teams from the ’90s.”
Barkley continued his assault.
O’Neal was left speechless.
Because he realized he was caught in a paradox. If he were to refute it, he would just be proving he wasn’t good enough.
If he didn’t refute it… then Su Xi was the most dominant ruler of all.
‘This is tough!’
After all, who could deny that Su Xi had decisively crushed them?
O’Neal was really taking a beating on this national broadcast.
…
The victorious Knicks took a red-eye flight back to New York. It was a long flight.
