Chapter 2607: Chapter 2605: The Wrath of a Common Man

In the Commander-in-chief’s Residence, Pan Jinlian was entertaining Little Kirin and the others.

After everyone introduced themselves, they quickly became much more familiar.

When Wu Zhi came back and heard them mention the matter of Liangshan Island, he immediately associated it with the siege by Demon Soldiers three years ago.

Originally, the Black Dragon King of Liangshan Island was supposed to come, but in the end he never showed up.

Turned out, he’d been subdued by a certain expert.

He raised his wine cup and solemnly toasted Little Kirin and the others in turn; having met kindred spirits he could truly talk with, he felt greatly at ease.

Pan Jinlian was somewhat ill at ease. She glanced at him and quietly asked, "Husband, what’s going on with that Ximen Qing? Have you passed judgment on his crimes yet?"

Wu Zhi sighed and said, "That man’s background is immense; with the evidence we have right now, we still can’t touch him!"

Wuu Yong, fanning himself with a paper fan as he drank, frowned and said, "The court is without the Way, so petty villains run rampant."

Wu Zhi thought the same, but only spoke to comfort him: "Sir, don’t be anxious. These treacherous officials can stir up trouble for a time, but you think they can keep it up for a lifetime?"

"Let’s hope so!"

Wuu Yong remained pessimistic about this.

Little Kirin and the others looked on and smiled. "Senior Brother hasn’t been in the mortal world for long, yet he’s already stained with quite a bit of worldly dust."

Wuu Yong snapped his fan and laughed loudly. "Master said my path in the Human Path is poor; most likely I’ll have to muddle along in the dusty world from now on."

Wu Zhi immediately invited, "If sir does not mind, you can stay at my Commander-in-chief’s Residence as a Retainer. I will certainly treat you with the highest courtesy and never let you suffer any loss."

Wuu Yong shook his head and declined. "I appreciate General Wu’s kindness, but I have already resolved to roam the four corners of the world and will not linger long in any one place."

Wu Zhi was full of regret. "That is truly a great pity!"

As they were speaking, Wu Song came back from outside, belly full of pent-up rage. As soon as he stepped in the door, he kicked a mangy mutt blocking his way, sending it flying.

Once inside, without saying a word, he sat down at the table, grabbed a wine jar, and poured it down his throat in great gulps.

Wu Zhi scolded him, "Second Brother, there are guests here. How can you be so rude?"

Wu Song, seething with grievance, said, "Big Brother, how could you let that murderer off lightly in the main hall? This plague in Yang Valley Pass may have started because of him, and you were almost killed by his scheming too!"

"I know all of that!"

Wu Zhi said with a dark face, "You’re still young; there are things you don’t understand."

Wu Song lifted the wine jar and stood up. "Indeed, I don’t understand. I used to think I did, but now everything’s muddled. I’ve got a smoldering fire trapped in my chest—if I don’t spit it out, I’ll suffocate myself to death."

He shouted this, then turned and left.

"The older he gets, the less discipline he has!"

Wu Zhi gave a helpless shout, then quickly clasped his fists to apologize to Little Kirin and the others.

Little Kirin instead praised him. "That young brother has the heart of a pure child!"

"If I were him, I’d be furious too!"

Little Bai drank as he spoke. "It’s a pity we are people of Cultivation and cannot meddle too much in mundane affairs. Otherwise, I’d be the first to personally hack that scoundrel to death!"

Little Qing and Vermilion Bird reminded him from the side, "Enough. Father sent us here only to rescue General Wu, not to do anything else."

"I’m just saying!"

Little Bai drooped his head, fully aware of the rules of Liangshan Island.

Cultivators who interfere too much in mundane affairs will invite karmic entanglements.

Wu Zhi said sincerely, "I understand all of your intentions. There is no need for you to intervene in this matter; I will find a way to resolve it!"

Little Kirin and the others nodded, drained a cup of wine, then stood and took their leave from Wu Zhi. "All right, matters here are settled. We should be heading back. If General Wu ever needs anything in the future, just come to Liangshan Island to find us."

Wu Zhi and Pan Jinlian rose to see them off. Wuu Yong and An Daoquan also smiled and took their leave. "In that case, we too should be going!"

Wu Zhi spoke with some melancholy. "There is no feast in the world that doesn’t come to an end, so I won’t insist on keeping everyone. If, in the future, there’s ever anything you need from me, Wu Zhi, just say the word."

Wuu Yong and An Daoquan nodded and left together with Little Kirin and the others.

Outside the gate, Wuu Yong stared curiously at the little girl gnawing on a pig’s trotter and asked, "May I ask, Junior Brother, who is this little Junior Sister?"

Back on the mountain, when the little girl had spat out Samadhi True Fire, she had startled even Wuu Yong.

Little Kirin stroked her head and introduced, "Her name is Song Yuchan, the youngest daughter of Duke Song Gongming of Qi."

"Duke of Qi?"

Wuu Yong, An Daoquan, and the Wu couple all raised their brows slightly.

Wu Zhi was overjoyed when he heard this. "No wonder she looked so familiar. The brows and eyes of this little girl truly carry the bearing of the Duke of Qi."

Song Yuchan, gnawing on her pig’s trotter, asked in surprise, "You know my father?"

Wu Zhi laughed. "Of course. Back when our Yang Valley Pass was besieged by ten thousand demons, it was thanks to your father’s help that we turned peril into safety. This time you came and saved Uncle Wu once again. Uncle Wu now owes you father and daughter two great debts!"

Song Yuchan giggled. "Father often says, when you see injustice on the road, draw your blade to help. Uncle Wu of the Wu Family, no need to stand on ceremony. In the future, whenever your niece comes here, just make red-braised pig’s trotters for me, Uncle Wu!"

"But of course!"

Wu Zhi laughed heartily, not expecting this little girl to be so clever and lovable.

Everyone cupped their fists in farewell and went their separate ways.

Wu Zhi and his wife returned to the residence but hadn’t even had time to rest when the house steward hurried in, anxiously saying to the two of them, "Master, Madam, this is bad—our Second Master has gone to settle accounts with that Ximen Qing!"

"What?"

Wu Zhi was taken aback and immediately sprang up. "How could Second Brother be so foolish!"

Pan Jinlian was anxious as well. "We must hurry over and see. We can’t let Second Brother cause some great disaster!"

Wu Zhi nodded and hurried out with Pan Jinlian.

In the largest restaurant in the city, atop the Drunken Fairy Pavilion.

A crowd of commoners had already been scared by Wu Song into scattering in all directions. Up above, a fierce fight had torn down half the private rooms on the third floor.

Windows, tables, and chairs from above kept crashing down to the ground below.

Wu Song was wielding a large dao, hacking continuously at Ximen Qing.

The blade aura flashed white; each strike left a deep gash in the floor of the upper level as it fell.

Though Ximen Qing came from a merchant family, he had also cultivated in Daoist arts since childhood.

Though his skills were not very profound, with the aid of various Pills, he had now reached the Core Formation Realm.

He summoned a Longsword and kept drawing on the Water Elemental Force around them, shaping it into a barrier in front of him.

Wu Song was a pure Body Cultivator. As he unleashed his blade aura—puff, puff, puff—it drove into the curtain of water, actually forcing Ximen Qing to retreat again and again.

One blade strike broke through the sky, ripping down through the Water Elemental Force Barrier and clashing head-on with Ximen Qing’s Longsword.

Ximen Qing’s arms went weak; his sword was driven down by the blade, biting into his shoulder.

Ximen Qing let out a miserable scream; blood spurted from his shoulder, and he dropped to one knee on the floor.

He let out a muffled roar. "Wu Song, think this through. If you kill me, your brother won’t be able to keep his post as General. Not only will you die, you’ll drag your whole family down with you!"

Wu Song’s eyes were bloodshot; he gritted his teeth in hatred. "You damnable scoundrel! They may fear you, but I, your granddaddy, do not!"

He tightened his grip, raised his blade, and swung it up.

Ximen Qing hurriedly dodged sideways and flipped out toward the outside, stepping into thin air as he tried to escape from there.

Wu Song, dagger in hand, let out a savage shout, "Scoundrel, where do you think you’re going!"

He gave chase, leaping out in a single bound. He kicked Ximen Qing hard in the lower back, flipping him over in midair, then stomped down on Ximen Qing’s body as he crashed to the ground with a boom.

The bluestone slabs on the ground were smashed to pieces on impact.

Ximen Qing coughed up a mouthful of blood; his former arrogance was gone. With his face full of panic, he pleaded for his life, "Spare me, and I swear I’ll never trouble your Wu Family again!"

Wu Song raised his blade and shouted, "Go below and say that to the civilians of Yang Valley Pass who died!"

The long blade in his hand flashed coldly as he swung it across Ximen Qing’s neck.

Blood spurted three feet high; the body was severed on the spot.

The onlooking commoners screamed in terror, each of them backing away from Wu Song in fright.

Just then, Wu Zhi arrived with his wife in tow. Seeing this scene, he was stunned where he stood, thinking to himself, It’s over—this time, trouble has truly come crashing down.
