The Beautiful CEO’s Close Bodyguard
Chapter 1820 - 1806
"There’s still another tricky problem right now."
Seeing the Prince nod and agree, Chu Ge finally said, "Actually, I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, I just never had any proof. Only today did I finally get a result."
"What is it?" The Old Gang Leader and the Prince both looked at him.
"It’s highly likely that Ru Xue and Ye Liang were both sent here under someone’s orders. Even though their target is me, I just feel that sending two people one after another for the same mission is not how an Assassin should operate."
Either you send a whole bunch at the start, or just one. There’s never a case where another one shows up halfway through!
Unless the mission fails—but Ye Liang hasn’t even made a move on him yet.
The Prince and the Old Gang Leader exchanged a glance, not quite understanding what Chu Ge meant.
Chu Ge explained, "My guess is that the Princess Consort coming here very likely has some other purpose."
"As for what purpose, that’s something we’d have to ask the Princess Consort. Just sitting here guessing is useless."
The Old Gang Leader said.
Chu Ge shook his head lightly. "You’re right, just guessing here is useless. But we can still lay out all the possibilities we can think of, so everyone has some mental preparation. Isn’t it said that only by knowing yourself and your enemy can you be victorious in every battle? The same logic applies to war. I don’t think the Prince could possibly not understand that."
The Prince nodded. "Chu Ge is right. But how should we go about guessing their true intent?"
Chu Ge fell silent for a moment. He thought of how Ye Liang had never attacked him before; clearly she’d had the chance, yet she didn’t make a move. It was only after the Princess Consort arrived that she developed the intent to kill him.
What exactly were they targeting him for?
Could it be they don’t want him to go back? No! From what he currently knew, to open the Time-Space Gate you had to be prepared to withstand the chaotic currents of time and space; for that, your power had to be deep and solid.
He had tested the Princess Consort’s and Ye Liang’s power; with just the two of them, they could barely hold on at best.
Yet people like that were sent as Assassins to put him to death...
Chu Ge’s gaze gradually darkened. It seemed that the person behind the scenes wanted them to kill him and then have them vanish from this world as well.
But thinking it through from another angle, he felt there were still other possibilities.
Without a clear direction to work with, just thinking about it gave him a bit of a headache.
Before long, a hint of drowsiness appeared on the Prince’s face. The Old Gang Leader cleared his throat and said, "Prince, this isn’t something that can be explained clearly in just a few words. Why don’t we wait until tomorrow after we’ve had some rest to discuss it?"
The Prince nodded. "We’ll do as the Old Gang Leader suggests. You all go back and rest."
Chu Ge was a bit puzzled. They were on campaign, at war, and he couldn’t even stay up this little bit of night?
After they came out of the tent, the Old Gang Leader finally cleared up Chu Ge’s confusion. "When I arrived, I happened to walk in on him and the Princess Consort in the middle of their conjugal duties. He’s probably exhausted now. Let’s go back and get some proper sleep too. Everything else can wait till morning."
Chu Ge’s lips twitched. This Princess Consort really knew how to enjoy herself. Even on a mission, she still made sure to come and have a good roll in the sheets with the Prince first!
When they returned to the tent, Feng Luo saw the two of them come back and immediately rushed forward to ask, "Well? Well? The Prince isn’t blaming you anymore, right?"
The Old Gang Leader was startled by her sudden appearance. He clutched his chest and said, "My old heart is going to be scared to death by you. It’s the middle of the night, why aren’t you sleeping?"
"With you two arrested, how could I sleep?" Feng Luo snorted. "Seeing as you both came back, looks like the Prince isn’t blaming you anymore. But I’m really curious—how were you so sure that once the Prince heard that rumor he’d definitely see you?"
The Old Gang Leader chuckled, gave Feng Luo a mysterious wink, and started selling the mystery. "Ah, that... as the Buddha says, it cannot be spoken, cannot be spoken. You’d best hurry off to bed. Tomorrow morning, I’ll tell you our real purpose in coming here."
Feng Luo’s eyes widened as she looked at him, a bright light flickering in her gaze. "Really?"
She loved hearing gossip most of all. As long as the other party was willing to talk, she loved listening. Of course, if the other party wasn’t willing, there was nothing she could do; she never forced anyone.
The Old Gang Leader nodded. "That’s right. So for now you should hurry off to rest. I’m about to die of sleepiness. Sleep, sleep."
"Okay, I’ll wait for you to tell me the gossip tomorrow."
Feng Luo scampered off.
The Old Gang Leader snorted softly. Gossip, huh. This whole matter has everything to do with you.
Chu Ge watched the Old Gang Leader and Feng Luo, that one old and one young, with no sense of seniority or hierarchy between them, and he couldn’t help but think of his time with Jian Chunqiu. Although Jian Chunqiu was his elder, the way they got along was about the same as the way Feng Luo and the Old Gang Leader did.
That kind of feeling made people feel relaxed and at ease.
Chu Ge’s lips curled up unconsciously. He thought that the time for him to meet Jian Chunqiu and the others again probably wasn’t far off.
At this moment, on the slope not far outside the army camp, Ye Liang and Ru Xue were standing there quietly.
It was just that one of them had anger written all over her face, while the other remained completely calm.
Ru Xue smiled as she looked at Ye Liang and asked, "What? You’re already angry?"
"Why did you stop me just now and not let me make a move?" Ye Liang glared furiously at Ru Xue. "You might have chickened out, but I didn’t! Time is running out. Do you plan to stay here with Chu Ge forever?"
Ru Xue shook her head lightly. "In that situation just now, in that setting, it was obvious that neither of us was his match. Were we supposed to stay there just to be his target practice? Besides, in that kind of situation, do you really think it was appropriate to act?"
Ye Liang said nothing, but the anger on her face didn’t diminish in the least.
"Reckless!" Ru Xue let out a soft, derisive laugh. "Ye Liang, if this is how you’ve carried out your missions in the past, then it’s no wonder the Palace Master has never truly taken a liking to you."
Ye Liang pressed her lips together in unwillingness, a wave of disappointment rising from the bottom of her heart.
Seeing the unwillingness all over her face, Ru Xue let out a faint sigh. "We still have time. There’s no need to rush. The Old Gang Leader went to see the Prince. I imagine Chu Ge and the Old Gang Leader will both be released tonight."
"And what if they’re released? We’ll still just be sitting here waiting, won’t we?"
Ye Liang muttered in a low, sulky voice.
Ru Xue stood there, gazing toward the army camp; there were still lights visible there. Her eyes flickered slightly. "After tonight, I’ll no longer be the Princess Consort."
"What, you can’t bear to part with your Princess Consort position?"
Ye Liang retorted sarcastically.
Ru Xue’s expression turned frosty. "You know perfectly well why my identity was exposed. If it weren’t for your prickly blundering today, my identity wouldn’t have been exposed so quickly!"
"I think you just can’t bear to part with that Princess Consort title, or that handsome husband of yours."
Ru Xue was infuriated by Ye Liang’s words. She suddenly stepped forward, grabbed her by the front of her clothes, and said, "Ye Liang! Don’t go too far with your mouth!"
