Chapter 739: Maybe Because I’m Better Looking

Xu Yisen turned the door handle and pushed it open. Bai Wan Yun and Xu Haotian both looked towards the door simultaneously and, upon seeing Xu Yisen and Munni walking in, a moment of surprise flashed across their faces.

"Yisen, Munni, why didn’t you give us a heads-up before coming?"

Xu Yisen replied to Bai Wan Yun with a smile in his voice, "I wanted to surprise you."

"You came just in time, come finish this game for me. Your dad’s taking advantage of my poor chess skills."

"Alright then, your dutiful son will bully your husband for you."

His teasing remark made Bai Wan Yun chuckle lightly. She stood up from the sofa, gave her seat to Xu Yisen, and then walked over to Munni, taking her hand affectionately, "Munni, come downstairs with me for a cup of tea."

"Alright."

The two went downstairs to the living room, where Bai Wan Yun instructed the housekeeper to brew a pot of flower tea and prepare some desserts for Munni.

Munni and Bai Wan Yun sat on the living room sofa, sipping tea and eating desserts, while chatting about family affairs and some books they’d recently read.

During this time, Munni many times wanted to tell Bai Wan Yun that she and Xu Yisen had decided that if she couldn’t conceive within six months, they would try artificial insemination.

But thinking there was still half a year left, she decided not to tell Bai Wan Yun yet, lest she worry about her, and swallowed back the words.

In the study, playing chess with his father, Xu Yisen, after deliberating for a while, decided to tell Xu Haotian about his and Munni’s decision to try artificial insemination if Munni still wasn’t pregnant after six months.

Xu Haotian obviously didn’t expect them to make such a decision and thought it was Xu Yisen’s idea, so after an expression of surprise, he furrowed his brows and said solemnly:

"Yisen, let nature take its course with the child. Your mother and I are eager for a grandchild, but we don’t want to pressure you.

If Munni truly can’t conceive, don’t force it, or pressure her. With Munni’s parents being gone, we should treat her sincerely, and under no circumstances slight her because of this.

Besides, more than a grandchild, your mother and I hope the two of you can be happy together."

Xu Yisen realized that his father thought the idea of artificial insemination was his and was chastising him for being reckless.

In his words, there was a clear favoritism towards Munni, which left Xu Yisen somewhat bewildered.

"Dad, this was Munni’s idea, I was against it, but couldn’t argue with her stubbornness and agreed to wait another six months. I’m just asking if you have any good advice to get her to drop this idea."

"Thinking about getting pregnant all the time must be quite stressful for her. Perhaps you should take her on a trip abroad to relax."

Xu Yisen nodded in agreement, "Pretend you don’t know about this for now. I’m sure Munni hasn’t mentioned this to mom because she doesn’t want you both worrying about her."

"Alright." Xu Haotian paused, looking at his son Xu Yisen with a somewhat complicated expression, "Yisen, you’ve let Munni down once, don’t fail her again this time and let your mom and me lose a daughter-in-law. Treat her well, understand?"

"Got it."

After having dinner at the Xu Family’s home, Xu Yisen and Munni left.

On the way back, Xu Yisen mentioned to Munni the idea of traveling abroad, to which Munni casually nodded in agreement.

"Do you think mom and dad’s favoritism is too obvious? Clearly, I’m their biological son, and I even picked out that painting and calligraphy set, but after they received the gifts, they kept praising you?"

His slightly bewildered and tangled tone amused Munni, and she casually replied, "Probably because I’m better looking."
