The Apocalypse Took Everything, This Time I Hoard It All First
Chapter 195: Work Fragments in the Safe Zone
Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Work Fragments in the Safe Zone
In the afternoon, Francis Grant hurried over after wrapping up his tasks and knocked right on the door of the Sunset Squad’s villa. When the door opened, he explained his purpose: he was there to take Luna Dawson to collect the supplies that needed to be relocated from the safe zone.
Upon hearing this, Kevin Keane and Miles Dawson immediately declared they would serve as her close-protection detail, hopping right into the car alongside them.
As soon as the vehicle started, Kevin spoke up first, his face looking extremely sour. "Did you find out anything about what happened at noon?"
Sitting opposite him, Francis frowned deeply, his tone tinged with helplessness. "We haven’t found a single trace of that little girl. After all, there are far too many children like her in the safe zone. Tracking her down is simply too difficult."
Hearing this, Miles couldn’t help but press, "What about Skylar Quinn? Could she be lying? What if there’s no little girl at all, and she just deliberately came to stir up trouble?"
At his words, Kevin reached out to playfully ruffle Miles’s messy bedhead, indulging the boy. "This residential compound is heavily guarded by soldiers. If she dared to lie, she’d be exposed the moment we investigated. She wouldn’t risk it."
Sitting to the side, Luna watched her brother’s dead-serious expression and Kevin ruffling his hair. She couldn’t help but chuckle, the lingering anger in her heart practically fading away. She turned to Francis, a touch of casual cunning in her tone. "Forget it. It’s fine if you can’t find her. When we return to the base and Colonel Grant hands out rewards based on merit, just add a few more Crystal Cores to my share as compensation for my emotional distress."
Seeing Luna’s money-grubbing look, Francis’s tight frown relaxed slightly. A gentle smile curled on his lips as he readily agreed, "I can do that. No problem."
Two military trucks slowly navigated the rear area of the massive military base. Their tires crushed the gravel on the ground with dull crunches. In the distance, the outlines of warehouses and the tarmac were exceptionally clear under the sun.
Luna sat comfortably in the backseat, having no intention of getting out of the car. Her eyes were lightly closed as her spiritual power surged out like an invisible tide, instantly blanketing the entire area within a fifty-meter radius. The heavy equipment parked on the open ground was locked onto in an instant.
The next second, a jaw-dropping scene unfolded—the heavy equipment enveloped by her spiritual power vanished without warning! Main battle tanks weighing tens of tons quietly disappeared as if erased by a giant eraser. Howitzers and anti-aircraft missile systems merely flickered for a moment before completely vanishing from sight. Fighter jets, bombers, and other aerial combat equipment also vanished seamlessly, without stirring up a single current of air or making the slightest sound.
The entire collection process was eerily quiet, as if those majestic machines had never even existed.
In the driver’s seat, Francis’s orderly, Phillip Sharp, gripped the steering wheel with trembling hands. His jaw was slack enough to fit an egg, and his eyes bulged as he stared at the mind-bending scene outside. Compared to other Space Superpower Users, this ability was practically an overwhelming, higher-dimensional attack! Phillip gulped, glancing at the calm and collected Luna in the rearview mirror, his eyes brimming with awe and disbelief.
Time ticked by. The military trucks crawled through the rear of the base for over half an hour before Luna finally withdrew her spiritual power and let out a long sigh of relief.
Releasing her spiritual power once more, she gently waved her hand toward an empty clearing nearby—BOOM! BOOM!
A series of muffled crashes rang out as over two hundred modified military trucks brought from Kensington Base uniformly appeared on the empty ground. Their bodies were brand new, the paint gleaming coldly in the sunlight. The truck beds were stacked with matching ammunition and maintenance tools. At a glance, it looked like a forest of steel, an imposing and staggering sight.
In the command building not far away, personnel on the top-floor observation deck and in various offices witnessed this and instantly erupted into an uproar.
"My god! That was... She just drove around a few times and took them all?!"
A young staff officer was so shocked that his water cup slammed onto the desk with a CLANG. Completely oblivious to the water spilling everywhere, he rubbed his eyes repeatedly, terrified he was seeing things.
"And she could actually fit all those massive machines inside? Over two hundred modified military trucks was already absurd enough, but she can store whole batches of main battle tanks and fighter jets? That spatial capacity and level of control are completely outrageous!"
"This is no longer a normal Space Ability, is it?"
"She’s practically a powerhouse from another dimension! Our base’s strongest Space Superpower User can only carry ten ordinary sedans at most. This gap is way too huge!" another officer gasped, his tone filled with unbelievable shock.
"A bug! Her existence is an absolute glitch in the system!" someone else couldn’t help but marvel, their eyes full of longing and awe.
Commander Thomas Dalton stood before the observation window, calmly sweeping his gaze over the steel military formation below before glancing lightly at the exclaiming crowd around him. "In the apocalypse," he said in a deep voice, "no matter how strong an individual’s power is, it remains limited. Only under the protection of the nation, by integrating these powerful individual forces, can countless fragile lives survive as much as possible."
His voice wasn’t loud, yet it instantly silenced the noisy office.
Kyle Keith and Dylan DuPont happened to be in the command building as well, discussing relocation protocols with Commander Dalton, so they naturally witnessed the shocking sight of Luna releasing the military trucks. Their pupils contracted sharply, and they stood rooted to the spot in utter shock, speechless for a long while.
Kyle’s fingers clenched unconsciously, complex emotions churning in his eyes. Although he already knew Luna was highly capable, he never imagined her Space Ability would be powerful to this extent.
Miles hadn’t yet recovered from the shock of the countless heavy weapons disappearing. He leaned close to Francis with wide, round eyes, his tone entirely blunt: "Colonel Grant, aren’t you afraid my sister might start a war? You let her pack away so many weapons!"
At this, Luna rolled her eyes dramatically and lightly smacked the back of her brother’s head, her tone tinged with exasperation.
"Start what? Start what damn war?!" She turned to Francis as if looking at a human-shaped Crystal Core, her eyes sparkling. "Besides, doing this trip earns me a solid Fourth-stage Crystal Core. I’d be a fool to turn down free money."
She looked exactly like a miser who had just fallen into a pile of Crystal Cores.
Kevin raised an eyebrow, clearly pleased. He spoke with lazy certainty, "Colonel Grant, is there anything else that needs collecting? I’ll personally escort our little boss there."
Looking at the energetic trio beside him—who were actively scheming for his Crystal Cores—Francis unexpectedly felt a trace of envy. They truly were free individuals. But he had his own burdens to bear; this mission alone carried the heavy weight of over three hundred thousand lives.
"I wish we had more supplies, but there aren’t enough left for Captain Dawson to pack. Fortunately, Captain Dawson has leveled up. This batch of weaponry can be used to escort the survivors and bolster the arsenal back at Kensington Base."
A hint of a smile flashed through Kevin’s eyes. As he looked at the man before him, a trace of approval rose in his heart.
