Chapter 553 - Hurt And Guilt
"What's wrong?" Janet asked in surprise when she saw Lesia standing there with a helpless and troubled look on her face.
"I got robbed," Lesia said with a sigh. It seemed that she would tear up at any second now. It had been a while since she had come out alone like this and then this had happened.
Elly rolled her eyes at Max and he just gave her a helpless smile in return.
"Robbed?" Janet asked in shock.
"Yes, look my hand bag is empty. I even had my storage device in it." She showed it to them and indeed the bag was empty. Even she didn't know just what kind of terrifying level had the thief reached to be able to take all the things insider her handbag out without even her noticing.
And do people like that even needed to rob?
She didn't know that Max just needed to use his spirit energy and he could send any thing near him into the spirit world. And spirit energy was not easy to detect even for people with first grade energy much less her with a second grade. So, all her belongings were now in his spirit world.
Lesia appeared confused at this strange event. She had no idea what had transpired, but she knew one thing.
She was doomed now!
She didn't have the ID card she had prepared which meant she wouldn't be getting a hotel and wouldn't even be able to enter the Trinity Academy to watch the game. Secondly, she didn't have a penny so she was pretty much done for. She didn't even have money to return to Ishtar.
Well, she could get out of this situation pretty easily if she revealed her identity and went to the anyone of the organization run by Barne's House around here but that would mean her husband finding her which she didn't want to happen until she met Lear.
"Is your offer still valid?" She asked while looking at Max.
A smile leaked out on Max's face and like a gentleman that he was, he invited her along while Elly looked at the scene not knowing what to think of it. This was her first time seeing Max's scoundrel side. This guy would really get his job done at all cost.
In the end, Elly just shook her head and hoped that Max would return the things she had robbed away from her.
….
The group went up to a Hotel owned by the Edwinson House.
Elly and Janet were supposed to visit Elly's Aunt and stay there but it seemed they didn't want to leave Max alone with her.
Max could understand Janet as she seemed to be acting like a elder sister and trying to judge the right person for him. And yes, it didn't suit her and she was failing miserably at whatever she was trying as well.
But Max couldn't really understand what was wrong with Elly's gaze. He literally wanted to scream at her, 'Bro! This is my friends mom!!!'
This really made Max's stress level to shoot up. She was being so possessive when there wasn't even anything. Only god knew what kind of bomb would exploded when he would talk about Andriel and the event that transpired during the competition.
The Hotel manager immediately came running out when he knew that Max and Janet had come and personally welcomed them in. They were all allotted luxurious room and soon everybody separated to get fresh.
Max finally found a bit of relief. This was tiring him out more, he would have rather faced the commanding beast then this situation.
"Knock!"
"Knock!"
Max looked towards the door to see Elly standing there.
"You need something?" He asked looking at her and she walked into the room before taking a seat on her own.
"You said we will talk after reaching after Trinity, here we are.." Elly said as she looked at him.
Max felt a headache. It seemed he wouldn't be having any relief today.
"Look, I had actually planned on being true to my words. But situation has changed now, I don't think I can keep my words any longer," He said with a guilty face and then went on to explain the situation to her.
Elly's face slowly changed and she indeed looked pissed.
"You are telling me that you it was all an unavoidable situation that you ended up with Lisa and that spirit like that?" Elly asked with a smile as her face twitched. She had been trying to think how to make things work between her and Max within the time that Max had given and she had even prepared step by step procedure to tackle the situation. But, he was telling her that it was over now.
"I-I.." Max really lacked words, he was being serious here.
"I didn't expect Lisa to be so bold, but I don't mind her. But who is Andriel? Just because someone is about to die, you would throw your body at her and take responsibility?"
"You are joking with me? Let's say that you threw your body to save her but why take responsibility? Aren't you helping her? Why feel responsible? And if she refused it without such promise then its her choice to die.." Elly said as she walked up to him and grabbed his collars before pulling him towards her.
This was the first time that Max had seen her burst in anger.
He didn't know that Elly was one of those people who really hated it when a promise was broken. And yes, it was the result of the event from Elly's tragic past. Having promises broken by her parents and being left alone. It really had made her look down on people who couldn't keep their words.
"She is not someone that I can just calmly see dying," Max sighed as he grabbed her hand and took it off his collars.
"Tell her to come out, I want to see who she is," Elly said as she looked at Max.
"Spirits can't come out in the real world," Max shook his head and his words suddenly made Elly frown.
"Wait they don't have existence in this world?" She asked looking at Max.
"Well, kind of…"
"Doesn't that mean to normal people she is just your imaginary friend?" Elly asked with a strange look.
"It doesn't matter because she exists…" Max said with a helpless smile.
"I guess, I can't stop you then. I don't know how it works. But if she lives within you and can't go elsewhere, I don't have anyway to take you away from a ghost like her and it indeed seems that she will be sticking to you with the rest of your life."
"But I am not going to let it go. You will keep your distance from her," Elly said as she looked at Max.
"I can't do that…" Max looked at her with a complicated look on her face.
Elly looked at Max in frustation before pushing him down on the bed and looking at him, "Isn't this unfair to me?"
Her words immediately left Max silent.
And when he saw those glistening eyes, he knew he had ended up hurting her. Even though she acted like that on the surface, she had a heart as well. Being told that she would be marrying him and then even Max promised her a time together.
It seemed she had taken it way more seriously then Max ever did. Max suddenly felt his heart growing heavier.
Guilt…
His heart was indeed filled with guilt…
But in that moment of silence, Max didn't realize and it was only a second later did he come to his senses and found that Elly had suddenly taken his blindfold off…
