The Adopted Cannon Fodder Made a Comeback
Chapter 532 - 514: Who Scammed Who?
Gu’er and Sui’er entered the shop, where Gu’er saw the coat Sui’er had mentioned. It was red, with a lovely style and a slimming cut.
Gu’er thought it was quite nice. Red was a festive color for the New Year, and with her fair skin, she could certainly pull it off. Plus, it was cinched at the waist, so it wouldn’t make her look bulky.
"Ma’am, how much is this coat? Can we try it on?"
Sui’er asked the shopkeeper.
"The coat is twenty. You can try it on."
The shopkeeper replied, taking the coat down and handing it to Gu’er.
Gu’er set the things she was holding on the floor, and Sui’er watched as she tried on the coat.
"Sis, it looks great on you! And it’s not too expensive. Let’s get it."
Sui’er was very pleased. The color, style, and size were all a perfect fit.
Gu’er nodded. She was quite taken with it herself.
Gu’er took off the coat, handed it to the shopkeeper, and put her own back on. Just as she was about to get her money, the fat woman approached, snatched the coat from the shopkeeper’s hands, and said, "Ma’am, I’ll take this coat. Can you give me a better price?"
The shopkeeper was taken aback. It wasn’t unheard of for multiple customers to want the same item, but she had seen what happened outside. This woman had a problem with these two young ladies. ’Is she here to actually buy it or just to cause trouble?’
"This coat is a popular item, so the price is firm. This is the very last one, and these two young ladies saw it first. Besides, ma’am, to be blunt, you’re too large for it. This size won’t fit you."
The shopkeeper was just being honest. The woman was more than just one size larger than Gu’er; there was no way she could squeeze into the coat.
"So what if I can’t wear it? I’ll feel good just looking at it at home. Besides, can’t I give it to someone as a gift? I don’t have to be the one to wear it. I want this coat. It’s only twenty, isn’t it? It’s not like I can’t afford that."
The woman glared. ’Now even a shopkeeper is picking on me. What’s wrong with being heavy? Does that mean I can’t buy clothes?’
"What do you think you’re doing? We picked that out first! You can’t even wear it, but you’re still trying to buy it? Who does that?"
Sui’er was furious. ’How can someone be like this? Following us into the shop to steal a coat? She’s completely shameless!’
"What’s it to you? Is my buying clothes any of your business? It’s not like you own this shop. Whoever has the money gets to buy. I haven’t cussed anyone out, so stay out of my business."
The woman was fired up now, especially after hearing this was the last one in stock. It made her even more determined. She just wanted to make Gu’er and Sui’er miserable.
Sui’er’s face flushed with anger. ’How can people like this exist?’
"I thought you said you had no money?"
Gu’er glanced at her, her voice calm.
"I can still scrounge up twenty. Ma’am, I’ll take the coat."
The woman shot Gu’er a smug look and shouted at the top of her lungs. Even if the coat was useless to her, she would be happy as long as it annoyed Gu’er and Sui’er. ’So you have money, huh? This is the last one. No matter how much you want it, you can’t have it. I’ll piss you both off so much!’
The shopkeeper wasn’t sure what to do. Yes, Gu’er and Sui’er had seen it first and even tried it on, but they hadn’t paid yet, so the sale wasn’t final. If someone else wanted to pay for it now, she could technically sell it to them. But this woman... she genuinely disliked her. Compared to her, Gu’er and Sui’er felt like proper customers.
"I’ll pay thirty. I’m buying the coat."
Gu’er said in a cold voice. She wasn’t just getting into a spat; she knew exactly what the woman’s malicious intentions were.
The woman was stunned. She hadn’t expected Gu’er to react like this.
Gu’er took out thirty yuan, handed it to the shopkeeper, and then reached for the coat in the woman’s hands.
"Alright, it’s yours."
The shopkeeper was delighted. She was already making a decent profit at twenty yuan. The coat’s style and color were nice, so it was a bestseller that earned her good money. She hadn’t expected this drama, but now she was making an even bigger profit.
"I’ll pay thirty-five!"
Seeing Gu’er about to take the coat, the woman hugged it tightly and yelled. She couldn’t let Gu’er get what she wanted. She was only here to make things difficult for her.
"Forty."
Gu’er stated calmly.
"Forty-five!"
The woman upped the price. In truth, she didn’t want the coat anymore—she never had. She was just doing this out of spite, to make Gu’er spend more money. That would make her happy.
’This way, I’m not cursing at anyone, so Gu’er can’t do a thing about it. I’ve made trouble for her, and it feels great.’
She also decided inwardly, ’Once Gu’er gets to eighty, I’ll stop bidding.’
"Fifty."
Gu’er shot back without a moment’s hesitation.
The shopkeeper stared at the two of them, dumbfounded.
"Fifty-five!"
The woman countered.
