While Lin Sui’er was cursing out Liu Fang, Gu’er lowered her voice and spoke to Sun Jiaming.

Sun Jiaming nodded. He agreed with Gu’er’s idea. If Liu Fang had been a good person, they would have gladly helped her make a living and raise her child. But she had developed inappropriate intentions—she wanted Lin Shan and was trying to destroy this family. They would never allow that to happen.

"When the time is right, I’ll have Dad speak with the township officials and ask them to look after Liu Fang. Once the request is made, no one can blame Dad if something happens; his hands will be clean. The most crucial part is dealing with the Liu family. We can’t be direct, otherwise, they might start rumors. We’ll say that during an inspection of the village nursing home, we noticed her house was in disrepair and sought her out. We’ll claim we took pity on the mother and daughter and decided to send them home. We should bring plenty of rice and flour, making a big show of delivering it to the Liu family to express our concern. When people see that the Liu family is already struggling and now has two more mouths to feed, we’ll offer to arrange a job for Liu Fang’s older brother. It’ll all seem perfectly logical then."

Gu’er continued, laying out her plan.

"Don’t worry," Sun Jiaming replied. "I know what to do. I’ll take care of it."

Sun Jiaming nodded, then asked, "But what if we bring her brother and sister-in-law, or even her parents, and she still refuses to go? It would be difficult to handle if she causes a scene or threatens to kill herself."

Gu’er knew Sun Jiaming was right. Liu Fang was obviously determined to stay. Even if her own family came to get her, she wouldn’t leave. If she were to make a scene and threaten to kill herself by, say, ramming her head into a wall, things would get really ugly.

"Everyone at Yonghong Hospital knows us. Go find the director and tell him someone in the family can’t sleep well because a baby is crying every night. Ask him for a few sleeping pills. Given our relationship and Dad’s influence, he’ll definitely give them to us on the sly, no referral letter or anything required. Then, we’ll just slip a pill into Liu Fang’s meal. Once she’s fast asleep, we’ll carry her to the car and take her straight back to her parents’ house. After she’s there, she can throw whatever fit she wants."

Gu’er had it all figured out. Liu Fang had to go, one way or another.

"I get it. Tomorrow, when the others go to the village, I’ll stop by the hospital first."

Sun Jiaming nodded. ’This is the only way,’ he thought. ’Knock her out, carry her to the car, and get her out of here. There’s just no other solution. Liu Fang can’t blame us for being cruel; she’s the one who pushed us to this. Besides, we’re just sending her back to her family, not selling her off. If she just behaves, she can still make a life for herself there.’

Gu’er gently stroked Jiji’s face as he slept soundly. ’It’s not that I’m heartless,’ she thought. She knew that after Liu Fang was sent back home, her sister-in-law would undoubtedly treat her poorly, and life wouldn’t be easy. Living under someone else’s roof, Chun Ya would likely suffer as well. ’But I can’t be blamed for that. I gave Liu Fang a choice, and she’s the one who refused to leave. She insisted on trying to tear this family apart. In that case, I have to be cruel. It’s far better than watching our family be destroyed.’

Sun Jiaming patted Gu’er’s hand. He knew she was a kind person at heart; she would never be cruel to anyone unless they pushed her too far.

"Should I go with Li Zhi tonight?" Sun Jiaming asked, worried that Gu’er was anxious to get it over with.

"No, don’t," Gu’er said. "It’s too cold, and the roads are terrible. Driving in the pitch-dark is dangerous. What if the car ends up in a ditch? That’s no joke. I’m not in that much of a rush. They can go tomorrow."

Gu’er felt there was no need to rush. Safety was the top priority.

"As long as you’re not anxious, that’s good. Try not to dwell on it," Sun Jiaming said, comforting her. "We’re doing what needs to be done. I know you feel for her child—she’s only a few years old, and when you look at our Jiji, your heart softens. But she has a mother who chose this path for her. There’s nothing we can do about it. It’s like Liu Fang herself said: Chun Ya is her daughter, and it’s all up to fate."

"You’re right. It’s all fate."

Gu’er sighed. It was true. She felt a pang of pity seeing a child as young as Chun Ya, especially when she looked over at Jiji. But what good was pity? It was all just fate.

Just as Gu’er finished speaking, Jiji let out a little grunt, immediately drawing her attention.

"He needs to poop."

By now, Gu’er understood Jiji’s signals perfectly. A grunt like that meant he needed to go poop. He had a different expression for when he needed to pee. When he was hungry, he would pucker his lips, and if she didn’t feed him right away, he would cry.

Sun Jiaming quickly picked up the baby while Gu’er grabbed a wastebasket. All other thoughts left their minds as they set about helping the baby do his business.
