The Adopted Cannon Fodder Made a Comeback

Chapter 462 - 452: Sending Her Back to Her Parents’ Home

Sun Jiaming knew what Sun Jiasheng was thinking.

"Brother, I know you still feel a sense of obligation, and so do I. I’ve never thought it’s wrong for a woman to help out her own family; after all, they’re the ones who raised her. It’s not just wives—even as sons-in-law, we should help out our in-laws when they’re in trouble. But you can’t be unaware of the situation with Sister-in-law’s family. For the past two years, has a single one of them worked to earn money? And yet they’re living the high life, acting all important when they go out. Where is all their money coming from?"

Sun Jiaming paused for a moment before continuing, "It all comes from Sister-in-law. If she actually had the means to support her entire family, I wouldn’t say a thing. But you two have Tingting. You can’t just ignore Tingting completely, right? And then there’s her mouth... It’s only because Gu’er is good-natured and wants to avoid family conflict. If it were anyone else, a fight would’ve broken out long ago. If she can talk to family like this today, what will happen in the future? Brother, you need to have a serious talk with her. If this habit of hers doesn’t change, I’m afraid it’s going to lead to a major disaster down the line."

Sun Jiasheng fell silent after hearing Sun Jiaming’s words, then silently drained a glass of alcohol.

’He was an honest but incompetent man. When the opportunity to move to the city first came up, his mother had wanted Jiaming to go, but Jiaming gave the chance to him instead. He moved to the city, learned a trade, and married a city girl. Then his parents came, saying they were going to rely on him. He couldn’t refuse—they were the ones who had raised him. But Wei Hong argued with him every single day, wanting his parents to return to the village. No one knew how awful it was for him, caught in the middle, how difficult his life had become. He just endured it all.’

’Later, when Jiaming also moved to the city, he thought his parents would go live with him and had secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But he never expected that the wife Jiaming found wouldn’t get along with their mom. To think that Jiaming, who had always been so filial, would actually get into a conflict with their mother because of his wife.’

’Later, Jiaming and his wife started making money, and he got a job at their shopping mall. He was really happy, thinking that with money, their lives would get better. But Wei Hong was in his ear every day, trying to get him to ask his brother for money. She claimed it was the Sun Family’s money and that as the eldest son, he was entitled to it. But he knew in his heart that the money wasn’t his, and he had no right to demand it.’

’Every month, he gave his entire salary to his wife. His bonuses went to Wei Hong. When his mother, who had her own money, secretly gave him some, he gave that to Wei Hong too. All their household expenses were covered by Mom. Jiaming wasn’t stingy either; they were always going to his place to eat or take things, and Jiaming’s side of the family never complained. Yet Wei Hong took everything from their home—all the money and goods—and gave it to her parents. On top of all that, she still wanted to ask Jiaming for money. He truly didn’t understand how she could be so shameless.’

’Wei Hong became increasingly insatiable, always saying that money should be theirs and scheming to trick Jiaming out of his money. Then, when Gu’er got pregnant, Wei Hong became even more unhinged. She would drone on and on to him every day about how Gu’er was definitely going to have a daughter, and how she was determined to make Gu’er lose face.’

’When Gu’er later gave birth to a son, making him an uncle, it should have been a joyous event. But Wei Hong was full of resentment. He tried to comfort her, but he never expected her to say so viciously that who knew whose child it was—that it might not be Jiaming’s, but Li Zhi’s. She sneered that Jiaming was happily wearing a cuckold’s green hat. She even said that if the child *was* Jiaming’s, it probably wouldn’t live long. He rebuked her right then and there, but he never imagined she would actually say such a thing in front of Gu’er.’

’Mom came home and had a massive argument with Wei Hong. Wei Hong, showing no remorse, insisted she wasn’t lying. She said you could tell just by looking at the baby that he was ill-fated and wouldn’t live long. Mom was so furious she was ready to fight her to the death, and he and Dad had to pull them apart.’

’It was just as Jiaming had said. If he didn’t do something about Wei Hong, her mouth was going to cause real trouble.’

"Alright. I know what to do."

Sun Jiasheng took another big gulp of alcohol, his mind made up.

"We’re all family. I don’t want you and Sister-in-law to be fighting. If she can just change for the better, it would be so good for our whole family to live in peace."

Sun Jiaming patted his older brother’s shoulder.

Sun Jiasheng nodded at him.

The next day, Cao Qiu came over and told them what happened. When Jiasheng went home, she didn’t know what he said to Wei Hong, but Wei Hong immediately started screaming and cursing. The things she said became incredibly nasty. She claimed the whole Sun Family was bullying her and that Jiasheng had actually yelled at her over something she’d said about Gu’er. She even asked Jiasheng if he was having an affair with Gu’er, if he’d taken a liking to his own sister-in-law. That made Jiasheng absolutely furious. But Wei Hong’s words only grew viler. She started saying again that Jiji wasn’t Jiaming’s son and didn’t have Sun family blood, that he probably wouldn’t live to be two, and that the Sun Family deserved to have its line die out. Jiasheng finally couldn’t take it anymore and slapped Wei Hong twice across the face.

Wei Hong burst into tears and started physically fighting with Jiasheng. In all their years together, Jiasheng had never laid a hand on her, but this time she had gone too far. When I tried to break them up, Wei Hong even started cursing at me. Jiasheng got so angry he told her that if she ever acted like this again, he would end their marriage.

Wei Hong couldn’t believe Jiasheng would treat her that way. She cursed him out one last time and ran back to her parents’ house. She declared that if Jiasheng didn’t come to pick her up, bearing gifts as a formal apology, she would never return.

"So what did Jiasheng say?"

’Gu’er hadn’t expected things to escalate this way. Still, Wei Hong’s vicious mouth really needed to be dealt with. The woman dared to say anything. To accuse her of having an affair with Sun Jiasheng... if that rumor got out, how could the Sun Family ever hold their heads high again? And to so viciously curse the family to have its line die out... who could possibly side with her after that?’

"Your brother has made his stance clear. He’s not going to get her. I told him, if he’s spineless enough to go bring Wei Hong back this time, then I’ll disown him as my son. So don’t you two worry. I’ll be damned if I can’t handle that wretched woman! That shameless Wei Hong... she actually called me an old hag who refuses to die. Pah! Anyway, this matter is far from over. If she wants to stay with her parents, then let her. We’ll just see if her family can afford to support her for the rest of her life!"

’This is karma, isn’t it?’ Gu’er thought as she watched the furious Cao Qiu. ’After all, Cao Qiu herself had once called her own mother-in-law an old hag who refuses to die.’

"She must have learned it from you."

Grandma Sun glanced at Cao Qiu and said mildly.

Cao Qiu’s face flushed red. She stammered, "Mom, I was just young and foolish back then. I had a foul mouth. Please, don’t keep holding the past against me. It won’t happen again. I’ll never say such terrible things again."

’Now that her life was better, Cao Qiu’s attitude had changed significantly. Looking at her mother-in-law now, it was as if all that old hatred had disappeared. She felt she must have been out of her mind back then to have acted so wrongly. In reality, besides opposing her marriage to Zhuzi at the beginning, her mother-in-law had never truly mistreated her after she joined the family. She had been the one to hold a grudge over it, allowing that bitterness to blind her and lead her further astray.’

Grandma Sun said no more. She could tell that Cao Qiu had genuinely changed; she wasn’t just pretending.

"You should keep an eye on things at Jiasheng’s place. With Wei Hong not at home, you should head back early to make him dinner. And there’s Tingting—she needs someone to take her to and from school. You don’t need to run over here so often. There are more than enough people here to look after Jiji."

’Grandma Sun thought that not bringing Wei Hong back right now was the correct course of action. Otherwise, the woman would become completely uncontrollable.’

"I feel sick if I go a single day without seeing my eldest grandson. Don’t you worry. I’ll still come visit him when I need to, but I’ll make sure everything at home is taken care of as well."

To Cao Qiu, none of this was a problem.
