The Adopted Cannon Fodder Made a Comeback

Chapter 460 - 451: Sent Back to Her Parents’ Home (Part 3)

Wei Hong had grown increasingly insatiable, always insisting that money should be theirs and trying to swindle Sun Jiaming out of his. Later, when Gu’er got pregnant, Wei Hong became even more unhinged. She would nag him every day, convinced that Gu’er would have a daughter and that she would make sure to humiliate her.

When Gu’er later gave birth to a son, he became an uncle. It was a happy occasion, but Wei Hong was full of resentment. He tried to comfort her, only for her to viciously suggest that there was no telling who the baby’s father was—that it might not be Jiaming’s, but Li Zhi’s, and that Jiaming was being cuckolded without a clue. She even added that even if the child was Jiaming’s, he probably wouldn’t live long. He had berated her then, but he never imagined she would actually say such a thing in front of Gu’er.

His mom had come back and gotten into a huge fight with Wei Hong. Wei Hong showed no remorse, even insisting she wasn’t wrong. She said one look at the child and you could tell he was ill-fated and wouldn’t live long. His mom was so furious she was ready to kill her, and it was he and his dad who had to pull them apart.

It was just as Jiaming had said: if they didn’t do something about Wei Hong, that mouth of hers would truly cause a disaster.

"Okay, I know what to do now."

Sun Jiasheng took another large gulp of alcohol, his mind made up.

"We’re family. I don’t want you and Sister-in-law to be at odds. It would be so much better if she could change and our family could live in peace," Sun Jiaming said, patting his older brother’s shoulder.

Sun Jiasheng nodded at him.

The next day, Cao Qiu came over and recounted the situation. After Jiasheng went home, she didn’t know what he said to Wei Hong, but Wei Hong immediately started screaming and cursing. The things she said became incredibly nasty. She claimed the entire Sun Family was bullying her and that Jiasheng had yelled at her over a single remark she’d made about Gu’er. She even asked Jiasheng if he was having an affair with Gu’er—if he’d taken a liking to his own sister-in-law. Jiasheng was livid, but Wei Hong’s words only grew viler. She brought up again how Jiji wasn’t Jiaming’s flesh and blood, not part of the Sun Family, and how he probably wouldn’t even live to be two. She said the Sun Family deserved to have its bloodline die out. Jiasheng, unable to bear it any longer, finally slapped Wei Hong twice.

Wei Hong burst into tears and started physically fighting with Jiasheng. Jiasheng hadn’t laid a hand on her in years, but this time she had gone too far. When she, Cao Qiu, went to break them up, Wei Hong started cursing at her too. That made Jiasheng so angry he threatened that if she ever acted like this again, he was done with her.

Wei Hong couldn’t believe Jiasheng would treat her this way. After letting loose another tirade of curses, she ran off to her parents’ house. She declared that unless Jiasheng came to get her, gifts in hand, to offer a formal apology, she would never come back.

"So what did Big Brother say?"

Gu’er hadn’t expected things to escalate like this. ’Still, Wei Hong’s foul mouth really needs to be reined in,’ she thought. ’She’ll say anything. To accuse me of having an affair with Sun Jiasheng... if that rumor spread, how could the Sun Family ever hold their heads high again! And to so maliciously curse the family to have its line die out... Who could possibly side with her after that? She even cursed her own mother-in-law.’ Thinking of Grandma Sun, Gu’er wondered if the furious Cao Qiu had spared a thought for how she herself had treated her own mother-in-law in the past.

"Your brother has made his stance clear. He’s not going to get her. I told him, if he’s spineless enough to go bring Wei Hong back this time, then I’ll disown him as my son. So don’t you worry. I’ll be damned if I can’t handle this bitch. That shameless Wei Hong... she actually called me an old crone who refuses to die. Pah! In any case, this isn’t over. If she wants to stay at her parents’ house, then let her stay. We’ll see if her family can support her for the rest of her life!"

As she watched the fuming Cao Qiu, Gu’er thought, ’This must be her comeuppance.’ After all, Cao Qiu had once cursed her own mother-in-law, calling her an old crone who wouldn’t die.

"She must have learned it from you."

Grandma Sun glanced at Cao Qiu and said lightly.

Cao Qiu’s face instantly flushed red. She stammered, "Mom, I was just ignorant back then, wasn’t I? I had a foul mouth. Please don’t be like I was and keep dwelling on the past. It won’t happen again. I’ll never say such awful things again."

’Now that life was better, Cao Qiu’s perspective had changed significantly. Looking at her mother-in-law now, it seemed all her past hatred had vanished. She felt that she must have been out of her mind back then to have acted so wrongly. In truth, apart from opposing her marriage to Zhuzi, her mother-in-law had never mistreated her after she joined the family. It was she who had held a grudge about the initial opposition, and that resentment had blinded her, causing her to stray further and further off course.’

Grandma Sun said no more. She could see that Cao Qiu was truly different from before; she wasn’t putting on an act.

"You should still keep an eye on things at Jiasheng’s place," Grandma Sun advised. "With Wei Hong gone, you should go back early to cook for him. And Tingting needs someone to take her to and from school. You don’t need to come running over here so often. There are plenty of people here to look after Jiji."

’Grandma Sun felt that not bringing Wei Hong back for now was the right decision. Otherwise, Wei Hong would truly raise hell.’

"I feel restless if I go a single day without seeing my dear grandson. Don’t you worry. I’ll still come see him when I should, and I’ll take good care of things at home too."

Cao Qiu didn’t think any of this was a problem.
