The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl
Chapter 2368: Shu Quan Told Me
Liu Jie thought: Meng Yunzheng’s skills were beyond what he could handle, but killing a traitor was more than within his reach.
Rong Hou assumed everyone in the room had already gone down; the drug he used this time was a bit strong. He hadn’t expected that Liu Jie, who looked like he was about to collapse, could still suddenly strike.
Meng Yunzheng was behind Rong Hou. Seeing this, he immediately called out, "Watch out."
But it was already too late. Rong Hou’s talent for martial arts was inferior to that of his elder brother; he only knew some flowery, showy moves. Against a master like Liu Jie he couldn’t even block one strike. The longsword pierced his chest, blood running down the blade onto the floor.
Meng Yunzheng suddenly lashed out with a kick, sending Liu Jie flying. Liu Jie clutched his chest, watched Rong Hou crash to the ground, and let out two dry laughs.
He lifted his head and looked at Meng Yunzheng. "I killed Rong Hou. Are you going to kill me to pay his life back?"
He knew Meng Yunzheng wouldn’t. Otherwise, he would have used poison from the start.
Meng Yunzheng’s face was taut. He ordered people to carry Rong Hou down for Zhao Xi to take a look, and to tie up everyone else.
Shu Yu walked to the bedside and looked at the youth there. The latter seemed to have been startled awake by the commotion in the room, his eyes half-squinting at her. Clearly on the brink of death from his wounds, his gaze still held a vicious edge.
Shu Yu gave a small laugh. "I’m really curious—just what are you, that they’re protecting you like this."
"You... won’t die... well."
Shu Yu grabbed the pillow beside her and pressed it over his face. Only when she’d smothered him into unconsciousness did she let go. "Already half-dead, and still spitting threats."
The youth fainted. It wasn’t long before Zhao Xi arrived.
This youth couldn’t die just yet. With an identity like his, he was bound to still be useful.
Zhao Xi stepped inside, bringing with him the news of Rong Hou’s death. Liu Jie had steeled himself to take his life, and as a seasoned killer he knew exactly where the fatal spots were, as well as that if he didn’t kill with one strike, there’d be no second chance.
Rong Hou hadn’t held on long enough to see Zhao Xi; he died before that.
Meng Yunzheng only inclined his head at this. Rong Hou had done plenty of evil, wreaking havoc among people in the black market. If it weren’t for the fact that he was somewhat useful, Meng Yunzheng wouldn’t have kept him around.
Still, he had promised Rong Hou that he would treat his family kindly. As long as his family didn’t take part in any rebellion and behaved themselves, he would petition the emperor for a favor on their behalf.
Once Rong Hou’s matters were settled, next came prying out information.
The youth’s injuries hadn’t healed yet, so they obviously couldn’t lay hands on him. Liu Jie was a tough one—getting anything out of him wouldn’t be easy.
So Meng Yunzheng turned his gaze on the relatively... familiar Shu Feng, aiming to fleece a bit of wool off him.
When Shu Feng woke up, all he saw was dimness, like a layer of cloth was covering his eyes.
He tried moving his hands and feet. Very good—he was tied up nice and tight.
"Lu Shuyu!" Shu Feng shifted twice on the chair. "You’re here, aren’t you? What are you trying to do?"
Shu Yu propped her head on her hand and glanced sideways at him. "Why so worked up? What can I even do to you? I just want to ask you a few questions, that’s all."
Shu Feng let out a cold laugh. "Ask me questions? Don’t even dream of getting any information out of me."
"I doubt you know that much anyway. You don’t even know my master’s notes. That’s what puzzles me. Wasn’t my master captured by you in the first place?"
Shu Feng froze. "How do you know that?" The moment he asked, he regretted it—stupid question. She and her master had obviously already met up.
Who would have thought Shu Yu would say, "Why, because... Shu Quan told me."
