Chapter 67: Chapter 67: God of Light?!

"Friendly strangers, thank you for lifting the Curse the Evil Dragon placed upon me."

Zhanhar looked at Yu Zhun and Ji Xiaoyu with gratitude. "If there is anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask."

"What exactly is the relationship between the Evil Dragon and the God of Light?" Seeing that Zhanhar was willing to communicate, Ji Xiaoyu couldn’t suppress her surging curiosity. "And why did you all turn out like this?"

"That is a very old story..."

A look of reminiscence appeared on Zhanhar’s face. "Dragon Burial City was originally called Bright City, and it was the domain of the God of Light.

"The Evil Dragon, Teton, was the God of Light’s mount. But after the God of Light died, it stole the Divine Power, disguised itself as the God of Light, and deceived the world."

"Was the God of Light killed by that Evil Dragon?" Yu Zhun suddenly asked.

"How could that be?" Zhanhar shook his head. "How could mortals ever comprehend or match the mighty power of a god?

"I don’t know why the God of Light died.

"But I am certain Teton couldn’t have done it.

"At first, I was also deceived by Teton.

"But soon, I discovered that it was not the same as the God of Light.

"After confirming that it was not the God of Light, I gathered all the residents of the city to kill Teton and punish it for its blasphemy."

Zhanhar revealed a pained expression. "That was a difficult battle. The residents of the city paid a heavy price to finally kill it.

"Bright City was reduced to ruins, and before Teton died, it placed a vicious Curse on us, wanting to turn us all into monsters."

"Just like what you carved on the stone stele?" Yu Zhun asked out of the blue.

"Stone stele? What stone stele?" Zhanhar looked confused. "I never carved any stone stele."

Yu Zhun nodded slightly. "Please continue."

"Teton’s Curse, originating from its corpse, continuously infected the surrounding residents, and the area of infection kept expanding.

"As the one who dealt the final blow to Teton, I bore the heaviest Curse, but I couldn’t let such a Curse infect the entire Bright City.

"Therefore, I stripped its flesh and blood and devoured it alongside the residents who had already transformed into Dragon Slaves. I hoped that through this method, those of us who were already beyond saving could bear more of the Curse’s power and ultimately eradicate it.

"This approach indeed worked. With only its skeleton remaining, the power of Teton’s Curse sharply decreased.

"To prevent the lingering power of the Curse from affecting the other residents, I decided to seal it underground.

"My cursed compatriots and I could no longer embrace the Light, so we decided to build an Underground City to guard Teton’s corpse."

Yu Zhun and Ji Xiaoyu couldn’t help but exchange a glance.

Most of what Zhanhar said lined up with the old man’s story, but their narratives were completely different.

"Then why did you send Dragon Slaves to the surface?" Ji Xiaoyu pointed at the Relic Gem. "Was it to retrieve this from the surviving residents and lift your Curse?"

"In fact, I only found out today that it still exists." Zhanhar looked at the Relic Gem in Yu Zhun’s hand with deep gratification. "This is the God of Light’s Divine Power Core.

"I always thought it had been lost with the departure of the God of Light. I never expected you to find it."

"So you weren’t looking for it?" Yu Zhun looked at Zhanhar. "Then what was your purpose in sending Dragon Slaves to the surface?"

"Because I sensed that Teton was not completely dead." Zhanhar’s tone became a bit more serious. "Its physical body is dead, but its spirit still remains.

"I was worried that Teton’s lingering spirit would return to the surface and cause harm to the residents there. Those fragile residents couldn’t fight against Teton’s power, but the Dragon Slaves are stronger and could protect them.

"Furthermore, I can feel it whenever a Dragon Slave in Dragon Burial City dies. If a Dragon Slave on the surface were to die, I would know that Teton was making a move, allowing me to strengthen the seal in the Underground City to suppress it."

"So that’s how it is..." Yu Zhun’s expression cleared in sudden understanding before abruptly stiffening.

Wait...

According to the standard Dungeon clearance process, after killing the thirty-six Dragon Slaves on the surface and entering the next two story stages, the remaining Dragon Slaves would madly attack the players, fighting fearlessly as if they had gone berserk.

It turned out this was because the players were being treated as Teton’s minions...

"It seems you came from the surface." Zhanhar showed a look of anticipation. "I... haven’t been to the surface in a very long time.

"How are the residents on the surface living nowadays?

"Have they rebuilt the city?

"Are they living happily?"

These three questions made Yu Zhun and Ji Xiaoyu fall silent simultaneously.

After hesitating for a moment, Yu Zhun slowly recounted what they had seen and heard to Zhanhar.

"The Dragon Slaves are hunting down the surviving residents?" Hearing this, Zhanhar revealed a bitter expression. "The unfortunate ones who transformed into Dragon Slaves do lose their sanity, but they can still recognize their own compatriots.

"Based on what you’ve said, that old man was most likely influenced by Teton’s lingering spirit, or might even be the embodiment of it."

"Are we going to kill him next?" Ji Xiaoyu was eager to try.

Since entering the Dungeon, she really hadn’t had many opportunities to fight.

"There’s no need for us to do it ourselves," Yu Zhun smiled. "There is someone else who can deal with Teton’s lingering spirit.

"Actually, I had some suspicions before, and after hearing Zhanhar’s account, I can pretty much confirm them.

"Rich Lady, do you remember when I bowed and prayed to the God of Light in the Ruins City, and received a response?"

"I remember." Ji Xiaoyu nodded. "The statue lit up back then."

Beside them, Zhanhar’s body jolted, disbelief flashing in his eyes.

"Then let me ask you another question." Yu Zhun smiled. "Do you remember what happened after the God of Light responded?"

"We found a little girl..." Ji Xiaoyu opened her mouth, suddenly realizing something as her pupils trembled.

"You’ve been standing outside the hall for so long, it’s about time you came in, isn’t it?" Yu Zhun shifted his gaze outside the hall doors. "The one who carved the inscription on the stone stele...

"God of Light."

STEP.

Accompanied by light footsteps, an eleven or twelve-year-old girl walked into the hall. Specks of Light flickered around her as her emaciated body gradually filled out, and her dry, yellow hair turned into a Golden color like the sun.

A pair of sun-like Golden eyes caused an incredibly divine aura to surge around the young girl.

Feeling that familiar aura, Zhanhar was already trembling with excitement, shedding tears of joy. "It’s... it’s the aura of the Lord God of Light!"

"Nope," the girl smiled and shook her head.

"The God of Light is truly dead.

"But I am His newborn incarnation."
