The Aboveboard Assassin
Chapter 59: You’re Telling Me This Is an Assassin?!
Chapter 59: Chapter 59: You’re Telling Me This Is an Assassin?!
Outside Divine Strategy City, Wind-Split Valley.
This valley was battered by gale-force winds year-round. Like invisible blades, the relentless gusts scoured the exposed rocks, leaving deep traces of wind erosion over the years. Faint azure blurs occasionally flashed between the cliffs—the only living creatures in this desolate place. They were the Wind-Split Wolves. As Demon Beasts capable of both melee and ranged combat, they possessed terrifying means of attack, from their tearing claws and fangs to the wind blades whipped up by their long tails. Yet, what made them even more formidable was their pack mentality and their ruthless tenacity; once they locked onto a target, they would not rest until it was dead.
At this moment, a man and a woman braved the head-on gales, making their way step by step into Wind-Split Valley.
"Are you sure I should leave all the damage output to you?" Yu Zhun asked for the last time, looking at the wealthy young woman beside him who was gripping her Magic Staff in eager anticipation.
"That’s right! You just need to lie back and do nothing!" Ji Xiaoyu nodded emphatically. Then, as if suddenly remembering something, she pulled out a bottle of powder and handed it to him. "Here, take this!"
"What is it?" Even before popping the cork, Yu Zhun could vaguely detect a bizarre, rancid odor.
"It’s an item called Demon Luring Powder," Ji Xiaoyu explained. "Its scent can spread up to five kilometers away and works incredibly well for attracting normal monsters. If you sprinkle it on yourself, it will draw in every single Wind-Split Wolf within a five-kilometer radius!" Her eyes sparkled with excitement at the thought. Once dozens or even hundreds of Wind-Split Wolves were clustered together, she could just hurl a barrage of skills right into the mob.
Yu Zhun uncorked the bottle and took a sniff. His face turned a slight shade of green.
"Add two hundred thousand!"
"Deal!" Yu Zhun decisively sprinkled the Demon Luring Powder over himself and strutted into the valley with an arrogant swagger.
Ji Xiaoyu followed behind him at a leisurely pace.
The scent of the Demon Luring Powder spread faster than expected. Before long, azure blurs appeared on the distant cliffs, hurtling rapidly in their direction.
Yu Zhun locked his eyes on the leading azure blur, and a status panel popped up.
[Wind-Split Wolf (Lv20)]
[Attributes:
Health: 10000
Mana: 300
Physical Attack: 1500
Magic Attack: 1500
Physical Defense: 400
Magic Defense: 400]
Level 20 was already the strongest among the Wind-Split Wolves. However, with that paltry amount of attack power, it could not even tickle him. Finding a relatively flat patch of ground, Yu Zhun flashed an "OK" sign to Ji Xiaoyu and simply laid down right there.
The next second, the ferocious Wind-Split Wolf arrived right in front of him. With a Light of bloodlust and Greed flashing in its eyes, the beast swung its sharp claws viciously at Yu Zhun.
[Health +1500]
Seeing the green text pop up above Yu Zhun’s body, the Wind-Split Wolf revealed a highly humanized expression of pure bewilderment.
Wait... this wasn’t right, was it? Why did this guy just heal?
During the beast’s brief moment of confusion, the rest of the pack arrived. Without hesitation, they pounced on Yu Zhun and tore into him with a frenzy of bites and scratches.
[Health +1400]
[Health +1300]
[Health...]
Every single Wind-Split Wolf present was dumbfounded. Just what was wrong with this human...?
Before they could ponder the mystery, a fireball emitting an astonishing amount of Light and heat hurtled toward the pack.
BOOM!!!
A terrifying wave of flames swallowed the pack the moment the fireball exploded. The Wind-Split Wolves’ innate ferocity was instantly triggered, but after casting a brief glance at Ji Xiaoyu, who had dealt the damage, they stubbornly fixed their deadly gazes back on Yu Zhun.
Ji Xiaoyu could not help but sigh in relief.
It had to be said that the Wind-Split Wolves’ nearly unshiftable aggro Mechanism was extremely unfriendly to party players. In a normal team composition, multiple tanks would typically rotate to hold the aggro. However, in Yu Zhun and Ji Xiaoyu’s two-person party, this exact Mechanism was nothing short of absolute perfection.
Completely reassured, Ji Xiaoyu let loose. Brandishing her Magic Staff, she rained down a relentless barrage of damage. Very soon, the dozen or so Wind-Split Wolves were entirely wiped out.
Seeing the total harvest of over two thousand experience points, Ji Xiaoyu could not wipe the smile off her face. At this rate of efficiency, she would hit Level 14 by this afternoon!
Having harvested four Wind-Split Wolf Fangs, Yu Zhun was equally delighted. He could gladly do this job for the rest of his life!
Wind-Split Wolves were somewhat territorial. The pack that had just appeared was merely the closest one to their location. While the duo was busy slaughtering them, other Wind-Split Wolves from further away had caught the scent and were already rushing over.
Ji Xiaoyu wiped her smile and glanced at her inventory.
[Mana Potion] x99
Perfect. Bring it on!
On the other side of Wind-Split Valley.
A seven-man monster-hunting party was panting heavily as they chased after a pack of Wind-Split Wolves, their faces filled with sheer frustration.
"Which death-courting idiot used Demon Luring Powder in a place like this?!" the leading Warrior player complained.
"The smell of the Demon Luring Powder is getting stronger. They should be just up ahead," an Assassin trailing behind the Warrior sniffed the air. "Let’s negotiate with their team and see if we can grind the monsters together."
"That’s all we can do," the Warrior player nodded helplessly. The rest of the party behind him also wore speechless expressions.
Soon, after cresting a hill, the seven-man party spotted their target.
"Holy shit?!"
Seeing a massive cluster of over fifty Wind-Split Wolves packed tightly together, the Warrior player shuddered violently. When he looked closely at the team attacking the beasts, their composition was so outrageously simple it defied logic.
There was one Mage dealing damage, and one player responsible for pulling aggro... There were too many Wind-Split Wolves blocking the view to see clearly what class the latter was, but barring any surprises, it had to be a Warrior. Just the two of them were tanking and dealing damage to dozens of Wind-Split Wolves.
"That’s fucking incredible..." The Warrior player looked on in sheer awe.
"Brother Li, is that guy really that amazing?" the Priest in the party asked curiously.
"Of course he’s amazing," Brother Li, the Warrior player, nodded emphatically. "I’m currently at Level 20. I have four pieces of Level 20 Purple Equipment, all with a +10 Enhancement. My Physical Defense and Magic Defense are both over twelve hundred, and my health has broken past the ten thousand mark.
"With so many Wind-Split Wolves, if it were me tanking them without a Priest providing Healing, I’d probably die on the spot within minutes.
"But look at him!" Brother Li pointed at Yu Zhun, who was completely submerged in the sea of wolves. "Not only can he tank them, but he’s also continuously regenerating his own health! His shield is so thick you can’t even see his health bar anymore!
"I can say with absolute certainty that he is no ordinary Warrior!" Brother Li declared confidently. "I’m afraid he belongs to the Flawless Heavy Shield class, the First-Turn Profession for Warriors that specializes in extreme defense and boasts self-recovery abilities!
"This is the true power of a senior from our Warrior Series!"
To think he was an over Level 30 First-Turn Professional!
The rest of the party gasped in amazement. How incredible!
Just as they were conversing, Ji Xiaoyu cast a Blast Flame, instantly killing a swath of the Wind-Split Wolves surrounding Yu Zhun and briefly exposing him to the party’s line of sight.
The Assassin standing next to Brother Li spoke up faintly, "I think I just saw him holding a dagger..."
CLANG—
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Brother Li dropped his Long Sword and clutched his head in disbelief.
You’re telling me a player this tanky is an Assassin?!
