She heard his name and tried to reply, but then she froze.

"I... don’t recall my name."

"Oh, well then, what would you like me to call you?" He asked. He already understood her issue, so there was no point in being shocked.

"How about you give me one?" She asked.

"Me? To name you? Well, okay, I guess that’s fine." He grabbed his chin and began thinking for a moment. "Hmmmm, your hair is pretty much your standout feature, but I don’t want to just use that." He looked at her again and then at her skin, and like a light bulb, the perfect name lit up in his mind.

"Snow, how about Snow? You are as white as snow, you know." He said with a smile.

She stared at him for a few seconds until he began to rethink it. "You don’t like it?" He asked.

"I do, Snow is a good name." She replied with a calm smile.

"So what do we do about this pillar?" Leon asked.

"Well, we watch and see how it goes, when the time hits zero." She replied.

"Yeah, I guess that’s true."

She turned and looked at him. "Do you want to see something cool? It happens only at night."

"Hmm? Where?" Leon asked.

"In the forest, come with me." She said and then rushed into the forest. Leon watched her go, he shrugged and then followed her in. They ran past the trees, stepping on the dry leaves and sticks.

"How far ahead is it?" He asked after a few minutes.

"Not much farther, I go there every night to watch." She replied.

They ran for a few more minutes, and Leon was about to say something when he saw a light in the distance.

Snow stopped running and signalled at him to be quiet. He stopped as well and walked toward her.

"You have to be really quiet, they are friendly but hate loud noises."

She pulled apart a bush and showed him a stream in the forest, but the water was not the shocking thing. It was the lights that floated above it, little lights the size of fingers that darted around happily and lit the entire surrounding area.

"What are those?" Leon could not help but ask.

"Lesser spirits, they come to the water at night because it is rich in mana and allows them to grow." She said.

"How do you know that? Thought you forgot everything?" Leon asked.

"Not everything, I forgot who I am and where I came from. If I forgot everything, I would not be able to speak.

"Also, I learned they were spirits from your town. An old man was talking about them." She explained.

Leon looked back at them. They were beautiful, he could not lie.

"Come with me."

She grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the stream. They moved quietly until they got to the side. She sat down at the bank and dipped her legs into the water.

Seeing her do this, Leon followed her lead. He took off his boots and dipped his legs in as well and watched the spirits move.

"I might not remember what happened before, but I’m happy I got to come here and see stuff like this." She said with a bright smile. She stretched out her hand and a few spirits came over and landed on them.

Leon found himself watching her closely with wide eyes.

’There is something about this kid, aside from the fact that she is a vampire and can see the countdown. Something about her is really just there and somehow shining.’

"Do you have a place to go after here?" He asked.

"Uhm, no, I stay in the forest mostly." She replied.

"Well, that’s no good. How about you come stay with me in the manor of the town? I’m the count’s son after all." Leon offered.

She looked at him with shock in her eyes. "Would your parents not hate that?" She asked.

"My mum would probably freak a bit and then allow it to be, as for my dad, he is not around and even when he does come back he barely pays attention. All he wants is for us to keep growing and be better to keep the family name." Leon explained.

Snow paused for a moment. She looked down at the water and kicked her legs slowly. She thought about it for a long while.

"We also have a lot of food, meat, wine and all you could want to eat, you know?" He offered his past line.

Hearing food, her ears twitched and she immediately looked at him again.

"Alright, that works for me." She said.

"Haha, seems you like food." Leon replied.

He turned to look at the water again to take in the scene when suddenly a wild beast burst out of the forest. It was a large hog over a meter tall with feet-long tusks that were curled. It rushed at them with hatred in its eyes.

Leon sprung to his feet fast and got ready to take it on, but in the next moment he saw a flash. Snow had run past him, she moved so fast he could not track her.

She arrived in front of the hog, leaped into it, picked a stone from the ground and hurled it at it extremely fast and powerfully. The stone knocked into the hog at full speed and knocked its head back, blood spilled from the wound into the air.

She did not stop back, and she suddenly moved her hands, which then controlled the blood that had poured out and also pulled out a huge amount of blood from the hog. She spun the blood into a large lance in the air and hurled it right at the hog, penetrating through the head and pinning the hog to the ground.

Blood splattered onto her face and the floor.

Leon stood there watching in utter shock.

’I guess that’s why she can survive in the forest without issues.’
