Tale of a Hedonistic wizard
Chapter 489: Come to the mountain cabin
Jaegar did not move. The purple mist still surrounded him, and lightning continued to flicker across his skin.
"Stay down," he said quietly. "If you want to live."
Ewen, stubborn and angry, rose to his feet anyway. He began to cast another spell, but his hands were shaking with fatigue and pain.
Before the magic could form properly, Jaegar moved. He was incredibly fast—so fast that Ewen barely saw him move. One moment, Jaegar stood across the pavilion; the next, he was directly in front of Ewen with his hand raised.
Then he released a controlled pulse of lightning.
It was not meant to kill, just to stun and disable. The electricity struck Ewen like a physical blow, and the young arcanyte crumpled to the ground, unconscious.
The purple mist around Jaegar faded.
He stood there, breathing heavily, staring down at his fallen classmate with a blank expression. He didn’t feel any emotion towards him; thing he wondered was why he was stubbornly attacking him.
The whole fight had lasted only moments, but it felt like an eternity.
Before anyone could speak, there came a sound from outside the pavilion.
Footsteps. Heavy and measured. Multiple people walked through the pavilion doors.
The man who entered first was tall and broad-shouldered, with dark hair streaked with silver. His face bore a striking resemblance to Jaegar’s, though his features were harder, marked by experience and the weight of difficult decisions.
This was Angus, Jaegar’s father.
Behind him came a dozen armed men, their eyes sharp and their hands ready for violence.
Prince Vlaran tried to reach for his sword, but Angelina put a hand on his arm.
Jaegar’s face went pale.
"Angus," he breathed.
Angus studied his son carefully, his dark eyes moving over him with an expression that was difficult to read. He looked at Ewen’s unconscious body on the floor, then back at his son.
"You didn’t kill him yet," Angus said, his voice deep and controlled.
"I thought you would have killed him already."
"What are you doing here?" Jaegar asked, confusion and caution mixing in his voice.
Angus stepped further into the pavilion, his men spreading out behind him. "I would have asked you the same, but we both know the answer already."
He looked at the pavilion, and Jaegar followed his gaze and understood what he meant.
He was here for the princess.
"The arcnyte boy lasted longer than I thought, though. Tell me, son, is your classmate any good?"
Angus asked in a familiar tone, making Jaegara frown deeply.
"What are you doing with him?"
Angus turned to look at Angelina and bowed. "My lady, how have you been?"
Angelina asked, "You don’t know what you are doing, Angus. Chaos isn’t something that you can control. You are just going to kill innocent blood for your petty dreams."
Ha ha ha.
Angus let out a soft laugh. "My lady, what are you talking about?"
Angelina frowned. "Where is Augusta?"
Jaegar seemed to hold his breath; he wanted to ask the same. It had been on his mind for a long time, but with all things, he couldn’t find out about her.
Angus smiled, turning to Jaegar, "She is safe, somewhere where she can’t be found. Don’t worry, she is in good hands."
The pressure from Angelina increased suddenly as she glared at Angus; she wanted to hold him and make him tell her where he kept her.
Jaegar’s aura changed instantly as he asked, "Where is my mother?"
It was the first time that he was told by the man, though he was aware that she was alive; hearing him say it, Jaegar felt strange, and he was raging inside.
Angus simply said, "Like I said, she is somewhere we can’t go just on a whim."
Arcane energy flared up around him as he stared at Angus, and he slowly walked towards him.
"Oh, you really have gotten a lot stronger, my son."
"Don’t call me that."
"But you are my son?"
"And I don’t care. You have no right to call me that after what you did to her."
Angus remained calm, his expression unreadable.
"Alright, alright. Calm down, son."
"Do you want to meet her?" Angus said with a slight smile, his eyes twinkling with mischief. Jaegar’s heart skipped a beat at the thought of finally seeing her again, but he couldn’t trust Angus.
"What? You don’t trust me?"
Angus put up a hurtful expression and said, "I am a man of my word, son. Why don’t you come to the mountain cabin on Saturday evening?"
Jaegar furrowed his brows, unable to tell what he was scheming.
It was a trap. He knew that, and he knew he couldn’t ignore it.
Right then, the Blackhound Legion, who came with Angus, started to spread around the three of them.
Angelina was standing by Vlaran, and Jaegar stood before Angus.
Angus slowly moved back as he said, once again, "This Saturday, right at dusk, at the mountain cabin. We will be waiting for you, son."
"We will have our little family reunion."
Jaegar gripped his fists, his anger rising. But he didn’t move; the thought of seeing his mother again made him feel conflicted. Deep down, he knew he had to go to the cabin, no matter the danger.
Angus slowly disappeared behind his soldiers as they moved in towards Jaegar.
Angelina then said, "Jaegar, he is going to take the princess."
Vlaran stood up, and he tried to move towards the inner walls of the pavilion, but was stopped by the soldiers. He started attacking them.
Angelina, too, tried to move, but they attacked her, too, making her defend herself.
Jaegar just stood there, not attacking them.
He watched Angus take Ewen from the ground and walk away.
He just stood there, etching the face of Angus, he will make sure to make that man pay for what his done to him and his mother, he vowed to himself.
He didn’t care about the girl or whatever Angus had planned; right now, on his mind, there was only one thing.
His mother.
The screams of soldiers dying resonated in the pavilion, but their number didn’t decrease as they tried to block the path for Angelina and Vlaran.
