The first two turtles fell in succession, their massive forms crashing against the volcanic rock with hollow thuds that echoed through the tunnel's heat. His Intermediate Assault and Offensive Drones focused down the one he was targeting, their energy beams cutting precise, glowing wounds through the creature's rocky hide. Iris, meanwhile, moved with a deadly grace. She took on the rest by herself, her Zweihänder carving paths of destruction through the reptiles.

"They are softer than I expected." Her voice carried a hint of surprised satisfaction as she blocked an incoming glob of molten stone with her Mystic Ward. The magical barrier shimmered in a pale white as it absorbed the blistering heat and splattered magma. The ward flickered but held, protecting her armored form from the viscous assault.

"I'm glad you're having a good time..." His response was laced with dry amusement as he sighted down his Rifle, the weapon's cool metal contrasting with the warmth that pressed against his suit. The violet beam erupted with a high-pitched whine, tearing through the turtle's thick neck and burrowing itself deep inside the shell. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, orange fissures spiderwebbed across the creature's armor before exploding outward in a shower of glowing rock and superheated gore.

In one fluid motion that spoke of rigorous practice, Iris ran the Whetstone of Chilling Frost over her blade. The magical stone left a trail of shimmering frost that defied the tunnel's blistering heat. The blade frosted over instantly, delicate ice crystals forming along its edges even as the surrounding air warped with thermal distortion. The sound of cracking ice filled the tunnel as the ambient heat fought against the magical enchantment, creating a symphony of hissing and popping that barely registered over the mountain's low rumble.

Her next swing was devastating. Angled downward and diagonal, the frosted Zweihänder bit deep into the body of her next victim. The extreme temperature differential shattered the turtle's scales like glass. The creature's death cry was cut short as its vital organs froze and ruptured, steam rising violently from the grievous wound.

Searanox fought another turtle at the other side of the tunnel while keeping an eye on her, his attention divided between his own target and the unsettling display of power from his companion. His defensive drones formed a protective barrier, absorbing retaliatory attacks while his offensive units systematically dismantled the turtle's defenses. Each precise shot from his rifle weakened its armor, finding the cracks and flaws that natural erosion had created over centuries.

`Is it the weapon, or her skill? The question burned in his mind with the same intensity as the surrounding magma pools. Last time I checked, I had double her stats.`

He watched as she moved with an economy of motion that spoke of both natural talent and relentless training. Her strikes found vulnerabilities in the turtle's armor that even his drones systems struggled to identify. The Whetstone of Chilling Frost had clearly been a game-changer, creating thermal shock points in her target's defenses, but there was more to it than that. Her timing, her positioning, the way she anticipated each turtle's movements—all spoke of a rapidly advancing warrior who was somehow surpassing her numerical limitations.

From behind them, the four women watched as the two fighters killed one turtle after another. The buildup of molten rock on the protective barrier grew, but before it could even cover half the height of the tunnel, the beasts were all dispatched.

`This is clearly faster than last time.`

He thought about it while looking at the wall of cooling rock that now stood half his height. The viscous magma had already begun to darken as it cooled, the vibrant orange fading to a deep, sullen red that would eventually become the same obsidian black as the tunnel walls. The acrid smell of burnt rock filled his nostrils, a reminder of the intense temperatures they were working in.

`Then again, I'm using two of my defensive drones to separate them instead of blocking them all at once. But it is clear that Iris is stronger than two or even three of my drones combined.`

His analytical mind calculated the damage output, comparing it to his previous run through this dungeon. The efficiency was undeniable. Each turtle that fell did so in less time than their previous encounters, with fewer resources expended. Iris's movements had become more fluid, more precise—like a well-oiled machine that had finally found its perfect rhythm.

"Alright, this was the first group. Be careful, the wall they created is very hot. Do not touch it," Searanox said, turning around to face them. His voice was measured, but there was an undertone of urgency as he pointed to the still-glowing barrier of rock that the defensive drones had constructed. Even as he spoke, steam rose from where the magma met the cooler tunnel floor, creating small hissing sounds that echoed in the heat.

The four women nodded in understanding, their eyes wide with a mixture of awe and apprehension. Carmen adjusted her grip on her staff, while Vanessa instinctively took a step back from the barrier as if the heat alone might singe her robes. Sarah's gaze flickered between Iris and Searanox, her mind clearly working through the tactical implications of what they had just witnessed. Lana simply stared at the cooling rock, her expression one of dawning realization about the sheer danger that lay ahead.

The more he fought beside Iris, the more he became aware of how effective her blade actually was. And the more he thought about it, something became painfully clear to him: his weapon had always dealt the exact same amount of damage. Despite his higher stats, even in the lower-tier dungeons, the output of his rifle remained statically consistent. Iris's blade, however, directly profited from her higher attributes.

It was a fundamental difference in their combat systems. His Magitech Rifle MKII, while powerful and precise, had a fixed damage output determined entirely by its design. His increased stats affected his stamina, his accuracy, and the amount of energy he could expend, but they didn't directly increase the destructive power of each shot.

Iris, on the other hand, fought with an extension of her own body. Her Eldritch Zweihänder responded to her physical and magical attributes in a way that his technological marvel simply couldn't match. As she grew stronger, so did her ability to wield the blade with greater force, speed, and precision. Each increase in her Strength translated directly to more devastating strikes; every point in Dexterity improved her control and the weapon's responsiveness.

That was the same underlying problem he had encountered when fighting the Gatura King. The monster's strikes weren't just fast; they were strong and powerful enough to crack solid stone. Meanwhile, his weapon shot a beam of energy that he had never fully investigated. He had always assumed that it would inherently become stronger the stronger he became, but in hindsight, it was glaringly obvious that this was not the case. The rifle did not drain his power; it simply shot a beam the moment he willed it to fire—a fact that now seemed more like a severe limitation than a convenience.

His mind raced, rapidly calculating the implications. It was a revelation that cast his previous victories in a new light, highlighting a critical vulnerability in his combat system that he had completely overlooked in his arrogant focus on technological superiority.

`And my drones currently only have twenty percent of my stats, which makes them roughly as strong as a regular level twenty-five Awakened... While Iris is fighting with the raw power of a level fifty.`

The thought was humbling at best, but he did not dwell on it for long; he was already allocating a good portion of his mental processing power to resolve this issue. His mind immediately began formulating solutions. The realization that Iris, with her Eldritch Zweihänder, was effectively operating at twice the combat capacity of his arsenal was a stark reminder of the fundamental differences between their paths to power. While he had embraced technological advancement, she had embraced personal growth, and now the divergent results were becoming increasingly apparent in the heat of battle.

"Iris, inside the next room there will be Salamanders. They are humanoid beasts," Searanox instructed. "They use tactics similar to the ones in the Tidal Terrace."

"Got it."

Her reply was terse and professional—exactly what he expected from his most trusted companion. He could almost see her mind processing the information, immediately adapting her combat style to anticipate the tactical shifts these new enemies would require. The mention of the Tidal Terrace was deliberate, referencing their previous encounters where the enemies had employed coordinated ambushes and strategic positioning rather than sheer brute force.

He could hear the four women chatting behind him—discussing the fights and noting the fact that Iris was taking out her opponents faster than he was. Their voices carried just enough for him to catch snippets of their conversation, a mix of awe and analysis that revealed their growing understanding of combat dynamics.

Vanessa's tone held a certain scientific curiosity as she speculated about the magical properties of Iris's blade, while Carmen seemed more concerned with the practical implications for their survival. Lana's questions revealed her still-developing understanding of combat mechanics, and Sarah's observations were, as always, surprisingly astute. When Sarah boldly remarked that Searanox was likely just 'testing' Iris, he couldn't help but smile slightly. Their growing tactical awareness was a very promising development, even if their current conversation about his and Iris's relative combat effectiveness was slightly uncomfortable to overhear.
