Chapter 33: The Reality Of The Apocalypse World

The moment those words left Liu Yun’s mouth, not only Lian Tianci but also the soldiers guarding the gas station froze in surprise.

Liu Yun quietly observed their reactions and noticed the surprise flashing across each of their faces.

After a brief silence, Lian Tianci finally smiled faintly. "Spatial Ability Users are extremely rare. Even now, there are only three Spatial Ability Users in the entire country."

"Every Spatial Ability User is considered an invaluable strategic resource, and they are protected by the Central Military Base or the private base they are affiliated with."

Staring into Liu Yun’s eyes, he asked, "Comrade, do you have any affiliate base or organization?"

When Lian Tianci asked that question, Liu Yun’s heart skipped a beat. She knew that Spatial Ability Users were rare, but she had never expected them to be that rare.

Coming out of her momentary surprise, Liu Yun shook her head and replied, "Today is the first time I’ve learned that Spatial Ability Users are so rare. This is also my first time leaving Ji City."

Listening to her explanation, Lian Tianci frowned slightly.

’I wonder how she survived all these months in Ji City. How could she not even know such basic information? I remember the headquarters had sent out several teams to announce this information whenever we gained new information.’

Just as he was about to ask Liu Yun more questions, the soldier finally returned with a female soldier.

Walking up to Lian Tianci, the soldier reported, "Captain, Xiao Mei is here."

Hearing this, Lian Tianci turned around and saw Xiao Mei approaching together with the soldier. Nodding to them, he calmly ordered, "Xiao Mei, inspect this comrade. Check whether she has any injuries."

Saluting him, Xiao Mei replied, "Yes, Captain."

After receiving the order, Xiao Mei turned to Liu Yun. Smiling politely, she said, "Comrade, please come with me."

Liu Yun nodded before glancing at Lian Tianci. After hesitating for a brief moment, she gave him a polite nod, then followed Xiao Mei toward the office building that the soldiers were using as a temporary shelter.

After the two women walked away, one of the soldiers asked, "Captain, should we recruit her to join our team? With a Spatial Ability User in our team, we don’t need to worry about not having enough supplies when going out for missions anymore."

Lian Tianci watched Liu Yun enter the office building before replying, "She’s wary of us. Recruiting her won’t be easy."

Hearing this, another soldier said, "Captain, aren’t those four men her friends? They seem to be a team. If we want to recruit her, why don’t we recruit all of them? Those men don’t look ordinary. They must be Ability Users as well if they can form a team with her."

Lian Tianci pondered his subordinate’s suggestion for a moment before replying, "Let’s observe them for now."

Knowing that their captain already had a plan, the two soldiers exchanged glances before responding, "Yes, Captain."

While Lian Tianci was considering how to recruit Liu Yun, she had already finished the inspection. Smiling warmly, Xiao Mei said, "Comrade, you are clear to enter the area now."

Liu Yun finished putting on her clothes before asking, "Comrade, I’m looking for my friends. Have you seen a group of four young men entering today?"

Being asked by her, Xiao Mei thought for a moment. Her eyes flickered as she recalled the four handsome young men who had arrived earlier that day.

"Yes. I saw them enter the gas station not long ago," she replied with a hint of interest in her voice.

Hearing this, Liu Yun’s eyes lit up. Clenching the hem of her clothes, she hopefully asked, "Comrade, do you know where I can find them?"

Xiao Mei pointed toward the gas station map hanging on the office wall. "I saw them heading toward the warehouse."

Liu Yun studied the map carefully and memorized the warehouse’s location. A moment later, she turned to Xiao Mei and sincerely said, "Thank you, Comrade."

"It’s my pleasure." Xiao Mei smiled as she opened the office door for her.

Leaving the office building, Liu Yun followed the route she had memorized and headed toward the warehouse. Along the way, she attracted countless gazes from the survivors.

When Liu Yun swept her gaze around, she saw several hungry children peeking at her while hiding in their parents’ arms. Sucking their fingers, they stared at her with numb expressions.

Looking at their sunken cheeks and yellowed hair, Liu Yun felt a pang of sadness. Their condition reminded her of herself in her original world.

She sighed before looking away from the children.

Besides the children, many of the survivors looked exhausted. Their faces were pale from hunger, and their bodies were so thin that they were little more than skin and bones.

Some looked at her curiously. Some stared at her with obvious malice. Others looked at her with envy. Meanwhile, a few merely glanced at her before looking away with numb expressions.

After observing the survivors for a while, Liu Yun retracted her gaze.

This brief observation made her realize that the Apocalypse World was not as simple as she had thought. From the gazes directed at her alone, she knew that surviving here by herself would be difficult.

Frowning slightly, Liu Yun couldn’t help asking inwardly, ’System, can you detect malicious intent?’

As though it already knew what she was thinking, the System calmly replied, [Player does not need to worry. This System will notify you whenever you are in mortal danger.]

Liu Yun frowned even more deeply. After a moment of silence, she asked again, ’System, does that mean you won’t warn me if the danger isn’t life-threatening?’

The System remained silent for a few seconds before its emotionless mechanical voice echoed in her mind.

Hearing the answer, Liu Yun could only let out a disappointed sigh and thought to herself, ’Never mind. At least the System will still warn me when my life is truly in danger.’

After comforting herself, Liu Yun regained her composure and continued walking toward the warehouse.

Meanwhile, in the corner of the warehouse, Qiu Sixun was busy treating Ye Xuan’s wounds while waiting for Gu Zhenwei and Lan Zuancheng to return with supplies.

Just as he was about to burn the blood-soaked bandages, Ye Xuan suddenly opened his eyes and grabbed Qiu Sixun by the throat.
