The sun in May already carried a sense of anxiety, burning hot against the skin.

A ray of sunlight shone through the curtains onto the bedroom wall, spreading a golden sheen.

At 4:40 in the afternoon, Lu Cheng was jolted awake by the sound of knocking.

The phone buzzed continuously.

Picking it up to see, the caller was Dai Linfang. Fortunately, Lu Cheng had slept for a few hours. He swiped to answer: "What's up?"

"Open the door, I have something to talk about!"

There weren't many people who could find their way to Lu Cheng's home, even fewer who dared to pound on the door.

Lu Cheng got up, first drawing open the curtains, then stepping on the bed to find his slippers, wearing pajamas as he headed to the living room. After pulling open the door handle, he turned back around.

"Lu Cheng... let me tell you." Dai Linfang quickly stepped inside, starting to speak while bending over to change shoes.

Lu Cheng had already turned towards the other direction of the living room: "Even if the sky falls, I need to take a dump..."

Dai Linfang: "..."

When Lu Cheng reemerged, Dai Linfang was already in the study, brewing tea by himself.

He held the teacup, blowing on it slowly before sipping.

Lu Cheng walked in, sitting across from Dai Linfang, then glanced at the time again: "Instead of catching up on sleep at home, why are you here banging on my door?"

Dai Linfang put the teacup down with a hint of irritation: "You think I want to bang on your door? I haven't had a moment to sleep at all."

"These old fossils, I don't know what they're thinking. They're afraid to call you, so they come probing here through me."

"I barely got to sleep for an hour before being woken up by call after call."

"I am Dai Linfang, not Lu Cheng."

"I'm Dai Linfang..." Dai Linfang's tone was somewhat exasperated.

People are more irritable when they're sleep-deprived. Right now, Dai Linfang was in that state.

"Who called you?" Lu Cheng's expression changed.

"Deputy Director Liang Nanmin, Director of Medical Department Peng Jianfei, Zeng Qiangsong from the Security Office."

"And Director Peng Hui from the State Health Commission."

Dai Linfang looked at Lu Cheng with reddened eyes: "I am Dai Linfang, who the hell did I offend?"

"I can't perform the surgeries they mentioned, so does that mean I just play around every day? Never need to rest?"

In the trauma center, Dai Linfang was scheduled with Lu Cheng, but it seemed, now someone treated him as Lu Cheng's "designated" assistant.

They couldn't bear to disturb the busy Lu Cheng personally, but didn't regard Dai Linfang as any significant person.

Lu Cheng didn't blame Dai Linfang for venting his frustration on him; after all, his troubles began because of him: "In such situations, you should just turn your phone off."

"Me, turning my phone off to avoid this?"

"Why should I? What if you or others need to reach me?" Dai Linfang shook his head.

Dai Linfang was truly on the verge of breaking down: "Seriously, if I put my mind to it, I feel like taking extreme measures and shutting them all up one by one."

Lu Cheng advised: "Calm down, I haven't put you in such a position."

Dai Linfang's expression softened: "If you had done something to provoke me, I wouldn't be this angry. During work hours, you're not slacking off."

"These damn people think they've got some connections, poking around aimlessly, thinking they have the power to pluck stars from the sky."

"So many relatives, one's an old classmate, another's a former boss."

"Screw them all, why are they pushing me like this?"

In fact, Dai Linfang could understand why Lu Cheng wasn't being disturbed.

Lu Cheng has, to some extent, ascended the ranks!

The rules of medicine are actually quite simple: if you can treat cases others cannot, admit patients others dare not, you're the real deal!

Everyone knows this rule.

Everyone's efforts are focused on progressing in this direction.

To attempt, and do what others relatively cannot achieve.

And when you truly can achieve that, you become significant.

If Lu Cheng was merely at the top tier of State People's Hospital, then the troubles Dai Linfang experienced should be what Lu Cheng would face.

They could unabashedly call you for help.

But Lu Cheng had reached a level where many city hospitals couldn't match, irreplaceable.

Some surgeries, even nationwide, few could perform them.

Lu Cheng clocked out normally!

Can he work overtime? Does someone need to convey the message?

Presently, the best people around Lu Cheng to convey messages were two individuals.

One was Huang Haibo, the other was Dai Linfang.

Huang Haibo was Lu Cheng's superior, aware of Lu Cheng's fatigue and his contributions, deliberately sent him off to rest.

If Huang Haibo's path was blocked, then the only breakthrough around Lu Cheng was Xiao Dai.

People with the mindset of trying their luck were plenty, and naturally, Dai Linfang couldn't get any sleep.

While Dai Linfang continued speaking, the phone began vibrating again.

Upset, Dai Linfang picked it up to show Lu Cheng: "Look, here we go again."

Lu Cheng glanced, his mouth twitching: "It's Auntie."

"Huh?" Of course, Dai Linfang immediately understood what Lu Cheng meant, quickly checked the phone and then decided to answer.

"Mom." Dai Linfang composed himself as he answered the call right in front of Lu Cheng.

"I'm with our Director here, reporting to the leadership."

"Hmm, our leader isn't much older than me, still quite easy to talk to. You can relax, everything is fine."

"No one's making things difficult for me."

"How're you and Dad doing recently? As long as you're both well, that's good. I'll take some time off soon to come see you."

"No need... I find things here pretty good, really, Mom, rest assured, I know how to handle things."

"No, no, nothing like that."

"My Manager is right next to me, do you want to chat with him?" Dai Linfang smiled quite casually.

Initially, Dai Linfang was somewhat reserved when interacting with Lu Cheng, after all, the means and way he joined the team weren't exactly above board.

However, after spending more time with Lu Cheng and feeling he was someone you could get along with, there was no need to "put on airs" anymore.
