System Came When the Doctor was Thirty
Chapter 638 - 318: A Fool's Dream Talk! (Part 2)
Professor Chen Song arrived at the high-speed rail station at 5:35 PM, but Dai Linfang saw the message and ran to Lu Cheng's doorstep at 4:20 PM, banging on the door.
Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu were cuddling on the couch watching TV.
Their peace was disturbed by the "bang bang bang" noise.
"Lu Cheng, Lu Cheng."
"It's Dai Linfang." Dai Linfang's voice sounded urgent.
Lu Cheng, wearing slippers and pajamas, opened the door while Mu Nanshu went to the room to tidy up her nightdress before returning to make tea.
"Is it true?"
Dai Linfang stood at the door, hands on his hips and breathing heavily: "Is the message you sent me true?"
"The Liver Preservation Surgery? You've improved it again?"
"Come in and rest, I'm not as excited as you." Lu Cheng gestured for Dai Linfang to come inside.
"You know, that's because you're damn crazy!" Dai Linfang looked around and finally chose the slippers he wore last time.
Dai Linfang's breathing was still heavy: "Lu Cheng, do you know? You really have a screw loose!"
"How can you be so calm?"
"Do you know what the Liver Preservation Surgery represents?"
"Dai Linfang, drink some tea first to calm down." Mu Nanshu said politely.
Dai Linfang took the teacup, sipped a little, didn't feel satisfied, and gulped down water to quench his thirst.
After consuming the water, Dai Linfang stood up to start scolding: "Lu Cheng, you're really too frivolous and irresponsible."
"You must understand that if another team had such an idea and breakthrough, they would retreat for intensive work."
"It's necessary to rent a building and lock up everyone in the research group for ten days or half a month to meticulously check every PPT slide, organize speeches, and refine theories and ideas."
"This is a must before making an official report."
"Early on, months of dedicated effort is needed to meticulously refine the framework and other aspects."
"And you? What are you doing?"
"Have you ever respected the patients? You plan to address this as casually as going to the bathroom, wearing slippers and pajamas?"
Lu Cheng frowned slightly, knowing that Dai Linfang's words were harsh but grounded.
If this technology is to be promoted, everything must be thoroughly prepared.
The more significant the breakthrough, the more precise and detailed it needs to be.
"This is just an idea; aren't you overreacting?"
"Did I tell you that I would make a report tomorrow or do a surgical teaching livestream the day after?"
"I figured it out last night, told you and Nanshu today, and even called Chen Song."
"Isn't it right to speak out immediately rather than holding it in for ten days or half a month?"
"Or do you need me to say that I understood last month but haven't refined it yet?"
Mu Nanshu said, "Dai Linfang is right. In any research group, if such surgery can truly be advanced, there'll be a long period of retreat."
Dai Linfang gradually calmed his breath, nodded after seriously considering Lu Cheng's words: "Indeed, I was too excited."
"But how can I not be excited?!!"
"Liver trauma, no one has been able to develop treatment methods for years, and you've made great strides, how can I not be excited?"
"Like what you told me before about the No Man's Land flexor tendons that Professor Tang Jinbo revolutionized with the Tang Method, breaking the decades-long high necrosis rate stitching stalemate."
"Now Professor Tang is virtually at the summit of international hand surgery, right?"
"And what about you?"
"How can I not be excited?"
Scientific breakthroughs range from minor to major.
Minor breakthroughs happen every year, month, and day; major ones occur once in a decade, thanks to a stroke of fate!
The Liver Preservation Surgery is incomparable to the Spleen Preservation Surgery, tendons, or nerve suturing techniques.
"Even if you're excited, we can only proceed slowly; we must advance gradually without rushing."
After Lu Cheng spoke, he glanced at the time: "Professor Chen Song will take a while to arrive. Since you've come, just stay instead of leaving."
"Watch some TV for a while."
"The information is true, and the matter is true too."
"It's not that urgent; the sky hasn't fallen, so it won't crush you, Dai Linfang."
"I am not as reckless as you think, okay?"
Dai Linfang then realized his intrusion upon Lu Cheng and Mu Nanshu's private moment.
To hear the way in the morning, and die in the evening.
Dai Linfang was genuinely overly excited.
Born from general surgery, he fully understood what Lu Cheng's mature thought and theory represented.
"I better go take a seat downstairs, so I don't disturb you." Dai Linfang tidied up, intending to leave.
As a single guy barging into Lu Cheng's home, wasn't he just creating awkwardness?
Lu Cheng didn't mind much and was about to speak.
Mu Nanshu interrupted, saying, "For dinner tonight, why didn't you invite Xie Yuan'an?"
Dai Linfang responded straightforwardly: "Dinner plans? You guys didn't send a message to Xie Yuan'an?"
Dai Linfang had always been quite smart and high in emotional intelligence, but notorious for being clueless in romantic situations.
Lu Cheng rolled his eyes: "That's why you're single."
"The food is practically shoveled into your mouth, and you still don't get it."
Dai Linfang immediately stood up.
It wasn't that he didn't realize, rather it wasn't a lack of intelligence: "Then I shouldn't be sitting down."
"Brothers, sis-in-law, thank you!!!" Dai Linfang dramatically stood up, gave a fist salute, and ran out the door.
The sight of him leaving was somewhat comical.
As Mu Nanshu showed an aunt-like smile, Lu Cheng remarked: "See, that's genuine nature."
"No matter how educated, no matter how intelligent and emotionally capable you are, in terms of feelings, you're just a big fool in outsiders' eyes."
Mu Nanshu pondered: "So you think you're not foolish?"
"Still clear-headed?"
Lu Cheng silently thought, am I not foolish?
That's just because you haven't seen or heard the foolish things I've done, right?
Even if such things happened, they wouldn't bother Lu Cheng.
"Many of the rebellious things," were merely the strong-willed stances spoken out to declare to the world.
Including Lu Cheng's past refusals to Professor Chen Song and Professor Tong Yuan'an's invitations, and his later actions.
Feelings don't necessarily need to be romantic to make someone foolish.
As long as there's an obsession, any kind of emotion can turn someone into a fool...
Love, hate, resentment all have that power.
Lu Cheng might not answer, but Mu Nanshu knew the answer herself.
She herself had done similar things.
She and Lu Cheng, in outsiders' eyes, how couldn't they be seen as another "Dai Linfang big fool"?
In a fit of anger, she decided not to study for her master, and went abroad.
Lu Cheng later 'didn't pursue his masters,' even now, this obsession has only faded but hasn't completely disappeared.
...
In the evening, Dai Linfang indeed brought Xie Yuan'an over by car.
However, Xie Yuan'an was quite smart, asking upon arrival: "Xiao Mumu, this is a general surgery project of yours; I, a newbie in hand surgery, wouldn't understand even if I came."
"But he insisted on bringing me here; with my intelligence, I'm probably not good at even accompanying drinks. Later, I'll just focus on eating without speaking."
Chen Song watched Dai Linfang and Xie Yuan'an acting like a pair of sworn enemies with amazement.
Dai Linfang quickly said: "Who said you're not intelligent?"
"Me?" Xie Yuan'an said.
"Don't I have self-awareness?"
Dai Linfang said: "Great intelligence appears as ignorance; knowing oneself isn't foolish, but a form of wisdom."
Xie Yuan'an's tone was sincere: "Then the wisest choice is not to get involved, so I don't end up not understanding and stay awkward."
Xie Yuan'an's reasoning was flawless, that no one could counter.
It seemed like Dai Linfang wasn't lacking in cleverness, but when faced with Xie Yuan'an, his intelligence seemed to dull.
He couldn't perform well.
Xie Yuan'an's pure clarity made Dai Linfang helpless, leaving others even more so.
"Just order some food first, you've come." Lu Cheng spoke.
Xie Yuan'an sat down: "Okay, I won't delay your meal."
Naturally, Xie Yuan'an wouldn't admit he came to hear gossip.
