Chapter 97: The Guardian of the Seven Principles

The Greenfall Core Guardian crossed the chamber with surprising speed for something that large. Its first step shattered several loose stones beneath its feet, but Subin had already moved before the impact reached him. He slipped diagonally across the floor, keeping Simple Edge close to his body while the Guardian's enormous fist passed through the space where he had been standing.

The impact struck the floor instead.

A shockwave spread through the chamber, but the seven mana channels surrounding the central core did not break. They bent around the disturbance and immediately restored themselves.

Subin noticed that before anything else.

The Guardian was powerful, but it was fighting with an awareness of the core's stability. Even its attacks were being adjusted to avoid damaging the system.

That meant the same restriction applied to both of them.

Subin could not afford to attack carelessly.

Neither could the Guardian.

The creature turned and swung its other arm. The movement was slower than the first, but the mana surrounding its body accelerated the attack near the final stage, turning a seemingly predictable strike into a sudden burst of speed.

Subin raised Simple Edge.

He did not block the fist.

He redirected it.

The blade touched the Guardian's forearm at an angle, and Subin allowed the momentum of the attack to carry the enormous limb past him. His feet slid several meters across the stone while the Guardian's fist continued forward.

The sword had barely touched the creature.

Yet Subin had learned something.

The Guardian's physical movements and its mana reinforcement were not perfectly synchronized.

There was a small transition between them.

A delay so tiny that most opponents would never notice it.

But Subin had spent too long studying transitions to overlook it now.

The Guardian turned.

Seven circular marks on its chest illuminated simultaneously.

The mana channels around the room responded.

One stream flowed into its left arm.

Another strengthened its right.

A third reinforced its legs.

The remaining four distributed energy through its torso and back.

Subin watched carefully.

The Guardian was not drawing energy randomly.

Each attack received a specific amount of mana according to its purpose.

It was using the Seven Principles as a complete combat system.

Foundation stabilized its body.

Flow transferred force.

Control distributed mana.

Intent determined the purpose of each movement.

Edge concentrated the attack.

Continuity connected one movement to the next.

Adaptation modified the system whenever Subin changed his approach.

Subin's eyes narrowed.

It was almost like fighting an externalized version of the principles he had spent so long learning.

The Guardian attacked again.

This time, it used both arms.

The first fist came from the left while the second followed from the right, creating a narrow space between them.

Subin moved into that space.

The Guardian immediately changed its attack.

Its right hand stopped halfway and rotated inward.

Subin lowered his body.

The fist passed over his head.

He stepped forward and cut toward the Guardian's chest.

The blade struck one of the seven circular marks.

A flash of blue light appeared.

Subin was pushed backward.

He landed safely.

The Guardian's chest showed no wound.

But Subin had confirmed something.

The seven marks were not armor.

They were control points.

Each represented one aspect of the Guardian's connection to the core.

He needed to understand them before attempting to sever anything.

The Guardian raised its hand.

A wave of mana spread through the chamber.

Subin felt the pressure change.

The air became heavier.

His movement slowed slightly.

Foundation.

The Guardian had strengthened the stability of the surrounding environment.

Subin took another step.

The resistance increased.

He adjusted his posture and continued.

The Guardian swung.

Subin moved.

The pressure increased again.

The creature was using Control to manipulate the environment itself.

Instead of directly attacking Subin, it was making every movement more difficult.

Subin's feet became heavier.

His sword felt slightly slower.

The Guardian approached.

Subin smiled.

“This is familiar.”

He had experienced something similar in the Deep Core Territory when his Sword Intent had been suppressed.

He had learned to rely on movement and perception rather than forcing his power through every situation.

Now the same lesson was returning in a different form.

Subin stopped resisting the pressure.

He allowed his body to settle into it.

His breathing slowed.

His center of gravity lowered.

Instead of fighting the increased resistance, he adjusted his movement to match it.

The Guardian attacked.

Subin moved through the pressure.

The difference was immediate.

His movements became smoother.

The Guardian's fist missed.

Subin stepped closer.

The creature attempted to accelerate.

Subin followed.

The Guardian changed direction.

Subin changed with it.

Their movements became connected.

The Guardian's seven marks began changing in brightness.

Subin's perception sharpened.

The creature's Adaptation had activated.

It was learning from him.

Subin did not mind.

In fact, that was what he wanted.

He wanted the Guardian to adapt.

Every adaptation created information.

Every change revealed a relationship.

The Guardian suddenly stopped attacking.

Its body became completely still.

Subin stopped as well.

For several seconds, neither moved.

Then the Guardian's chest illuminated.

All seven marks merged into a single pattern.

The entire room changed.

The central core began circulating mana faster.

The seven channels disappeared into the Guardian's body.

The creature had synchronized completely with the core.

Subin's expression became serious.

The Guardian was no longer using individual principles.

It had entered a unified state.

The system displayed a warning.

[Core Guardian synchronization increasing.]

[Synchronization: 72%]

The number continued rising.

78%.

84%.

Subin understood immediately.

If synchronization reached complete integration, the Guardian might become indistinguishable from the core's defensive system.

He needed to interrupt it before then.

The Guardian charged.

This time, Subin did not retreat.

He ran forward.

The two met in the center of the chamber.

The Guardian's fist descended.

Subin moved beneath it.

The other arm followed.

He stepped between both attacks.

The Guardian's knee rose.

Subin twisted aside.

The creature's body rotated.

Subin followed the rotation.

For several seconds, neither could land a decisive attack.

The Guardian's movements were becoming smoother.

Its adaptation was accelerating.

Subin realized why.

It had stopped treating him as an opponent.

It was treating him as a variable within the core's system.

Every action Subin took became information.

Every decision he made altered the Guardian's model.

Subin needed to stop giving it predictable information.

He deliberately changed his rhythm.

The Guardian adjusted.

Subin changed again.

The Guardian adjusted again.

He suddenly lowered Simple Edge.

The Guardian paused.

That pause was enough.

Subin stepped forward with his empty hand.

The Guardian attacked.

Subin did not use the sword.

He redirected the massive arm with his palm, not through strength but through the flow of its momentum.

The Guardian's fist passed beside him.

Subin moved into its blind side.

He touched the second circular mark on its ribs.

Then he stepped away.

The Guardian turned.

Subin drew Simple Edge again.

He had learned something.

The Guardian's seven principles were connected, but they were not perfectly simultaneous.

There was always an order.

Even in its unified state, one principle had to influence another.

That sequence created transitions.

Subin waited.

The Guardian attacked again.

Foundation stabilized.

Flow transferred.

Control redirected.

Intent changed.

Edge concentrated.

Continuity connected.

Adaptation responded.

There.

Subin saw it.

He moved.

Simple Edge cut through the air.

The strike landed not on the Guardian's body, but between two of the seven mana pathways.

The connection flickered.

The Guardian stumbled.

Synchronization: 84% → 76%.

Subin's eyes sharpened.

The Guardian roared.

The chamber shook.

The central core released a tremendous pulse of mana.

The Guardian's synchronization began rising again.

Subin immediately moved toward the nearest channel.

He did not attack the core.

Instead, he cut the mana flow feeding the Guardian's left arm.

The connection separated.

The Guardian's left arm slowed.

Subin shifted toward the second channel.

A massive fist nearly struck him.

He stepped aside and cut again.

Another connection broke.

The Guardian's synchronization dropped further.

76% → 61%.

The creature responded violently.

Its body expanded as dense mana reinforced every layer of its stone armor.

The remaining connections became thicker.

Subin's expression changed.

The Guardian had recognized the problem.

Instead of maintaining seven balanced connections, it was concentrating the remaining energy into fewer pathways.

That made each individual pathway stronger.

Subin could not simply continue cutting them one by one.

The Guardian attacked.

Subin blocked the first strike.

The force pushed him backward.

He rotated his wrist and redirected the second.

The third attack came from behind.

Subin ducked.

A fourth followed.

He stepped between them.

The Guardian's body was becoming increasingly aggressive.

Its adaptation had shifted.

Instead of trying to preserve its original system, it was simplifying it.

Subin understood.

It was doing the same thing he had learned to do in the Weaponless Sword trials.

When the original method became impossible, remove unnecessary complexity.

The Guardian was becoming more efficient.

Subin smiled.

“Good.”

He tightened his grip on Simple Edge.

“Then I'll have to become simpler too.”

He stopped using elaborate movements.

He stopped trying to predict every attack.

He focused only on the next transition.

The Guardian's fist came.

He moved.

Its body shifted.

He adjusted.

A mana surge arrived.

He flowed with it.

The creature changed its attack.

Subin changed his position.

There was no attempt to dominate the battlefield.

He simply remained connected to the movement.

The Guardian's attacks became faster.

Subin's sword became quieter.

Then, for the first time, the two movements became almost perfectly synchronized.

The Guardian attacked.

Subin moved with it.

Its mana accelerated.

His sword accelerated.

Its body turned.

He turned.

Its Intent changed from attack to restraint.

His Intent changed from defense to movement.

The two flows crossed.

And Subin saw the opening.

It was not in the Guardian's body.

It was in the moment when the Guardian decided what its next action would be.

Subin stepped inside that transition.

Simple Edge moved.

The blade touched the central mark on the Guardian's chest.

Subin did not cut deeply.

He simply separated the Guardian's own Intent from the mana reinforcing it.

The effect was immediate.

The seven marks went dark.

The Guardian froze.

The central core continued functioning.

The seven channels remained intact.

But the Guardian was no longer connected to them.

It had become an independent creature.

The enormous body dropped to one knee.

Subin lowered his sword.

The chamber became quiet.

The Guardian looked at him.

Its blue eyes remained open.

It did not attack again.

Instead, the cracks across its body slowly closed.

The system appeared.

[Core Guardian connection severed.]

[Ecosystem integrity maintained.]

[Greenfall Core Guardian defeated.]

Subin waited.

He did not move toward the creature.

After several seconds, the Guardian's body began dissolving into particles.

It left behind a large crystal embedded with seven faint lines.

[Legendary Greenfall Guardian Core acquired.]

[Purity: 99.1%]

[Stored Mana: 184,700]

Subin picked it up.

The core was warm.

Each of the seven lines pulsed independently.

He stored it without absorbing it.

Then the system began displaying additional changes.

[Unified Flow: 18% → 31%]

[Environmental Flow Integration: 51% → 63%]

[Sword Intent: 96.4% → 96.9%]

[Decision Transition: 38% → 42%]

[Decision Space: 27% → 30%]

[Adaptive Decision Loop: 32% → 38%]

Subin looked toward the central core.

The dungeon's circulation had stabilized completely.

But something else had changed.

The seven channels were no longer glowing.

The core was still active, but its defensive system had disappeared.

Subin sensed the deeper pathway beneath it again.

This time, the presence below was clearer.

It was not a monster.

It was an enormous natural mana flow extending farther underground.

The Greenfall Core was not the true source.

It was a regulator.

The real circulation continued below.

Subin approached the center of the chamber.

The floor opened.

A staircase appeared.

Unlike the previous staircases, this one was not made from black stone.

It was formed from compressed crystal.

Mana flowed upward between every step.

Subin looked down.

The system updated.

[New Territory detected.]

[Greenfall Inner Depth.]

[Estimated Monster Level: 120–150]

[Confirmed Rank: A+]

[Environmental Mana Density: 711%]

[Exploration Progress: 74% → 79%]

Subin remained at the top of the staircase.

He could feel the difference.

The territory below was not simply stronger.

It was more concentrated.

The environmental systems he had studied above were becoming increasingly unified as they descended.

His Personal Sword Path still remained at 99.9%.

Simple Edge remained at 99.99% synchronization.

Neither had awakened.

Subin did not feel frustrated.

He had finally stopped measuring his progress solely by those numbers.

He had something more important now.

A deeper understanding of what his sword represented.

He looked down the crystal staircase.

Then he began descending.

With every step, the mana became denser.

The seven principles continued circulating through his perception.

But now, for the first time, he could feel something beyond them.

A deeper movement.

A flow beneath the flow.

And Subin knew that whatever waited in the Inner Depth would not simply test whether he could cut it.

It would test whether he truly understood what his sword was capable of becoming.
