Chapter 84 — The Birth of the Convergence Beast

The fractured lightning pillar continued to glow brighter.

Subin stood at the edge of the elemental platform with Simple Edge in his hand, watching the six pillars circulate their respective energies toward the center. Fire, water, wind, earth, lightning, and ice were no longer moving at their previous rhythm. Their circulation had accelerated, and each cycle compressed more mana into the center of the platform. The surrounding air had become heavy enough that the expedition members could feel pressure against their bodies.

Han Yerin looked at the instruments in her hand and quickly lowered them.

"They're useless now. The readings are fluctuating too quickly."

Subin didn't answer. His attention remained fixed on the lightning pillar.

The crack had spread almost halfway around its base. Yet the pillar wasn't collapsing. Instead, every time the lightning mana reached the damaged section, the fracture briefly closed before opening again. It was adapting to the stress, but the adaptation wasn't stable.

"This platform is trying to balance itself," Subin said.

Park Jae-hyun looked at the six pillars. "And the lightning pillar is failing?"

"Not exactly. It's changing."

Kang Min-seok frowned. "Changing into what?"

Subin looked toward the center.

"We're about to find out."

The next cycle began.

The elemental mana accelerated.

Fire became a spiral of red light. Water formed a rotating ring around it, followed by wind, earth, lightning, and ice. Six different energies entered the center and compressed together.

The pressure became overwhelming.

Several expedition members were forced to retreat.

Subin remained where he was.

He could feel each element trying to maintain its own nature while simultaneously becoming part of something larger. It reminded him of the principles he had been studying throughout Blackstone Dungeon.

The platform was demonstrating all of them without possessing anything resembling human thought.

The lightning pillar finally broke.

Instead of collapsing, however, its upper half dissolved into millions of particles.

Lightning flooded toward the center.

The other five elements followed.

A tremendous explosion of light filled the chamber.

Yerin immediately raised her arm to shield her eyes.

"Everyone, stay back!"

The platform shook violently.

Cracks spread across the ground.

The elemental energy at the center compressed further and further until it became a sphere no larger than a human head.

The sphere was completely black.

Subin watched it carefully.

There was no outward explosion.

No monster had emerged.

Instead, the sphere began absorbing the surrounding mana.

The six pillars dimmed one after another.

The silver forest behind them lost its faint glow.

Even the distant mana conduits began sending energy toward the platform.

Subin's expression changed.

"The platform isn't creating something from nothing."

Yerin looked at him.

"It's gathering everything."

"Exactly."

The black sphere expanded.

Ten centimeters.

Twenty.

Half a meter.

One meter.

Then two.

The expedition prepared for battle.

Subin raised Simple Edge.

The sphere suddenly cracked.

A pulse of mana swept across the entire plain.

Every monster in the surrounding territory reacted.

Some fled toward the forest.

Others crouched instinctively.

A few stronger creatures remained at a distance, watching the platform.

Then the sphere broke apart.

Something stepped out.

It was roughly three meters tall.

Its body was humanoid, but its proportions were clearly unnatural. Black stone formed its muscular frame while six different elemental energies circulated through its body. Fire flowed through one arm, water through the other, wind surrounded its legs, earth reinforced its torso, lightning covered its back, and ice formed a crown-like structure around its head.

Its face was featureless.

There were no eyes.

No mouth.

Yet the moment it stood upright, Subin felt its attention settle directly on him.

The Convergence Beast wasn't moving.

It was observing.

Its body constantly changed as the six elements circulated through it. Whenever the fire concentration increased, its right arm became brighter. When wind passed through its legs, its movement became lighter. When earth moved through its torso, its body became denser.

Their weapons collided.

The ice blade shattered.

But before Subin could counterattack, the fragments transformed into water and wrapped around his arm.

Subin immediately released mana through his body and broke the restraint.

The water became steam.

The steam turned into wind.

The wind pushed him backward.

Subin landed safely.

His eyes narrowed.

The creature had changed the same attack through multiple elemental states without interrupting its movement.

That was impressive.

But there was a weakness.

The transitions were too obvious.

Subin had spent too long studying transitions to miss them.

He advanced.

Subin realized what that meant.

Subin had to defeat it before that happened.

He accelerated.

The creature responded with lightning.

Subin deliberately moved into the attack.

He continued forward.

The creature switched to earth.

Subin cut through the forming barrier before it could fully stabilize.

Subin looked at Simple Edge.

Min-seok laughed bitterly.

"Of course you'd say that."

Yerin approached the center of the platform.

"The elemental pillars are gone."

Subin looked around.

She was right.

The six pillars had disappeared completely.

Only their foundations remained.

But the platform itself was still active.

Blue light now traveled through the cracks in the stone.

Subin crouched and placed his hand against the surface.

A powerful pulse entered his palm.

He immediately recognized the direction.

Down.

The elemental platform had been another part of the dungeon's circulation system.

The Convergence Beast had not been the final purpose of the platform.

It had been a consequence.

Something deeper had triggered the convergence.

Something beneath them was still drawing mana.

Subin stood.

"The energy is still moving."

Yerin looked toward the ground.

"After the creature died?"

"Yes."

Subin's eyes moved toward the center of the platform.

"The creature wasn't the destination."

A faint tremor passed through the ground.

Then another.

The expedition members exchanged glances.

Subin remained calm.

The dungeon wasn't hiding anything from them.

It was simply functioning according to its own environment.

And now they had reached another layer of that system.

The platform began sinking.

Not collapsing.

Descending.

The entire circular structure slowly lowered into the earth, revealing a massive staircase beneath it.

At the bottom of the staircase was darkness.

Subin looked down the newly revealed staircase.

"Looks like we're going deeper."

Yerin sighed.

"At this point, I don't even want to know what's down there."

Subin smiled.

"I do."

He stepped onto the first stair.

The expedition followed.

Behind them, the elemental platform slowly disappeared beneath the ground.

Ahead, the darkness continued downward.

And somewhere far below, the dungeon's mana circulation continued toward its deepest point.
