She took a deep breath and said, "Even though it was a wasted trip, at least now I can relax. Oh, right, just now Secretary Chi said you have a very important social engagement tonight?"

"Yes."

"Then can I go with you?" Deep down, Song Yinyin still really hoped Lu Jihan would take her along.

Even though she didn’t really hold out much hope.

She was asking with a ’just trying’ mindset, watching Lu Jihan’s expression, wishing so badly he would say that no matter how important the event was, it wasn’t as important as her.

Probably, any woman would have this kind of selfish thought, right?

"Yinyin, it’s a very formal cocktail party. You can’t avoid socializing there. And we just got married—I’m worried people will come to toast you. Look at you, you just got pregnant; drinking is bad for the baby, so you’d better not go."

As expected...

A faint trace of loneliness rose in Song Yinyin’s heart.

"Okay, I understand. I’ll head back, you get busy." After saying this, she stood up listlessly, planning to leave.

But then, her slender wrist suddenly tightened.

The next second, the man’s warm, broad palm closed around her small hand and pulled her back.

Lu Jihan wrapped her tightly in his wide, warm embrace, right there under everyone’s eyes, giving her a big bear hug from behind.

She had still been stewing a bit a moment ago, but with that warm back hug, a wave of warmth flowed upward into Song Yinyin’s heart.

In that instant, she seemed not all that angry anymore.

"Were you waiting for me outside for a while?" Lu Jihan rested his chin on the top of her head and asked softly.

Because she was pregnant, Song Yinyin wasn’t wearing high heels, and she looked a whole head shorter than him.

Yet there was no sense of mismatch at all between their heights.

Song Yinyin’s nose stung a little, and she felt a bit wronged.

They all say pregnant women have lots of little moods; she was probably exactly like that right now.

She sniffed, and without caring whether Chi Wen was watching from the side or not, she turned and wrapped her arms around his waist, complaining:

"You only realized now? I thought that file was something you accidentally left behind and that you might need it, so I rushed over to bring it to you. I didn’t know you had another engagement. I thought since I was already here anyway, I’d just wait for you to get off work so we could go home together, and then it turns out you have a social engagement again..."

Song Yinyin didn’t know that right now she looked exactly like a little wife who’d been wronged.

Lu Jihan couldn’t help but laugh. He gently cupped her face in both hands, lowered his head, and kissed her on the lips.

"I know. I’ve never liked attending these things, but there’s no helping it—this one is really important, I have to go."

"I know, just go." Song Yinyin wasn’t a pretentious or unreasonable woman; she just needed to vent a bit when it was called for.

But then Lu Jihan changed tack. "However, there’s still time before the cocktail party tonight. I’ll send you home first."

"Mm."

Song Yinyin nodded, her arms tightening around Lu Jihan’s waist, refusing to let go.

The right side of her cheek was pressed to his chest, listening to the strong beat of his heart.

She only felt utterly content inside.

When she drew a deep breath and slowly opened her closed eyes again, she unintentionally caught sight of Chi Wen in front of her, her expression dreadfully dark.

That look in her eyes, that expression, was so cold it made one’s heart give an involuntary shiver.

Song Yinyin’s face stiffened slightly, the corner of her mouth twitching.

But when she focused her gaze on Chi Wen again, the expression on Chi Wen’s face had already returned to normal.
