His eyes were red and filled with sadness, like tangled skeins of thread, so dense that they wouldn’t unravel.

Before Chi Yan could speak, he heard his phone ringing in his pocket.

He reached into his pocket, took out his phone, and saw the name flashing on the screen again and again...

"Ayan, answer the call!" Du Xiang urged him.

Chi Yan took a deep breath, answered the phone, and headed towards the classroom door as he spoke.

"Hello, Sister Tong..."

Luo Tong was driving and parked at the school gate. She held the steering wheel with one hand and watched the rain veil slightly obscure her vision on the car glass, holding the phone with the other to talk to Chi Yan: "Ayan, let’s have dinner at the villa tonight. Your father spent money hiring a Michelin chef just to have a family dinner for you."

"I’m not going back. I don’t have him as a father anymore." Chi Yan said stubbornly.

"Don’t be capricious. No matter what, he’s your dad, and in his heart, he loves you." Luo Tong counseled, "You are his flesh and blood..."

"No, I can’t forgive him. Sister Tong, please don’t say anything more; I’m not going back! If you insist on making me go back, you might as well knock me unconscious and carry me to the villa." Chi Yan’s attitude was resolute. After saying this, he hung up the phone.

Luo Tong knew communication would result in this, but President Chi insisted she try.

It’s understandable that unless absolutely necessary, no father would want to create a conflict with his son, especially since Chi Yan is his only son.

Chi Yan refused to go back, so Luo Tong couldn’t complete her task. She needed to report back to President Chi.

She dialed the number, and Chi Shouye’s voice came from the other end: "How did it go? Did he agree to come back?"

"No." Luo Tong sighed, "President Chi, you know Ayan’s temper. On such a special day, his mood isn’t going to be good. He’s definitely not coming back."

"Even if we have to bind him, we need to bring him back." Chi Shouye was furious. He had specially spent money to invite Michelin chefs from the Japanese restaurant to celebrate his birthday, but this brat didn’t know how to appreciate it.

"I suggest letting it be for now. How about I celebrate Ayan’s birthday on your behalf, President Chi? After all, this matter can’t be rushed. If you push him too hard, there’s no telling what he might do." Luo Tong discreetly warned him.

Chi Shouye remembered last year, also Chi Yan’s birthday, when he invited a group of friends to a restaurant for the celebration. To his shock, Chi Yan bought half a truckload of joss paper from a mortuary and burned it all right in front of everyone.

The joss paper turned into ashes by a blaze, flying everywhere, evoking distaste and bad omen!

Thinking of this, Chi Shouye exhaled: "Alright then. Please celebrate his birthday for me, just make sure that brat doesn’t go burning joss paper again."

The fierce wind stopped, and the rain eased up.

Luo Tong turned off the car and, holding a dark red umbrella, walked toward the school gate.

A few minutes later, she was standing outside Chi Yan’s classroom.

By then, the school bell had rung, and students were coming out with their backpacks.

She saw Chi Yan coming out with his two friends, and behind them was a girl named He Yue.
