But, he never had the chance.

Today he finally said it, hoping Luo Tong could understand.

Luo Tong was silent for a long time, then looked up at Ning Chenyang: "I’m not going to press you about anything else, but let me ask, when you decided to report my father, didn’t you feel any struggle or hesitation at all?"

"I did." He couldn’t eat for days over this, "Luo Tong, your adoptive father wasn’t a good person. The police couldn’t catch him for so many years, and if he kept walking free, he would harm more people and cause trouble for more families! So, I don’t think I did anything wrong... the only person I owe an apology to is you."

Luo Tong’s eyes were wet, her heart felt sour and bittersweet, and for a moment she couldn’t describe the feeling.

At this moment, the door sounded.

An Hao came in, carrying a thermal container to bring food for her son, seeing a woman with heavy makeup sitting by the hospital bed in tears, she was very puzzled.

"Who is...?"

Luo Tong heard the voice, glanced up to see An Hao, and quickly stood up, politely greeting An Hao: "Hello Auntie! I am Luo Tong!"

"Luo Tong... This name sounds familiar!" An Hao’s memory was quite good, vaguely she could recall this name.

"I was Ning Chenyang’s elementary school classmate." Luo Tong casually replied, without specifically introducing her circumstances.

An Hao searched her mind for a while but couldn’t find more memories about her, so she concluded that she was just an ordinary elementary school classmate of Ning Chenyang.

"Thank you for visiting Chenyang! I didn’t expect that you were elementary school classmates and still have such a good relationship."

Luo Tong was embarrassed by the mention, thinking that if Ning Chenyang hadn’t saved her, things wouldn’t have come to this. She felt some guilt, but her face showed no sign of it.

To avoid An Hao asking more questions, which would be awkward, she proactively suggested leaving: "Aunt, it’s getting late, I have things to do at the company, I’ll head out first. I’ll come back another time to see you!"

......

During Ning Chenyang’s hospital stay, An Hao meticulously took care of his diet and daily needs. She even stayed by her son’s side at night, insisting on accompanying him.

Since her son joined the army, these days had been rare to spend together, so while he was recuperating, she cherished every day they could spend together.

At home, only Ning Chenguang and He Yue were present.

After school, the first thing He Yue did was put down her backpack and head straight to the kitchen to prepare dinner for the two.

The summer heat is intense, making appetite scarce at dinner.

He Yue pondered and decided to make some cold noodles.

She went out to buy noodles, and upon returning, boiled them immediately, then put the cooked noodles into cold water to soak.

Waiting for the noodles to cool thoroughly, she drained them and placed them on a plate, then put them back in the fridge to continue chilling. Meanwhile, she cut cucumbers and ham into strips, and shredded and blanched some potatoes. Afterwards, once the noodles were thoroughly chilled, she added these sliced ingredients and mixed in soy sauce, vinegar, and sesame oil.

When she finished everything, Ning Chenguang had just returned from outside.

"Big brother, you’re back? I’ve prepared dinner, come and taste how it is." He Yue untied the apron from around her waist and placed the freshly made cold noodles on the dining table.

"It’s so hot, I’ll go take a shower first." Ning Chenguang had just come back from school, sweating profusely, eager to freshen up.

"No way, no way." He Yue stopped him, "You’re all sweaty now, if you shower right away, you’ll definitely catch a cold."

"I’m used to it."

"That’s not okay either! How can you be studying medicine? Eat first, then relax and cool down." He Yue sidestepped to block Ning Chenguang’s path, adamantly preventing him from going upstairs.
