Swap Marriage in Ancient Times: Transmigrated to My Stepbrother's Wife
Chapter 227: Side Character’s Help
"A system?!"
Wang Gege’s eyes remained fixed on the little red ladybug hovering beside Jiang Zhaoyuan. Her curiosity was impossible to hide.
The little creature slowly fluttered backward, while Jiang Zhaoyuan’s expression became noticeably more guarded.
Xie Rong also looked at the ladybug with a serious expression. He had never expected to encounter another system in this world apart from Gemini’s system.
Wang Gege glanced between Jiang Zhaoyuan and the little creature. "So... you have a system too?"
Jiang Zhaoyuan was silent for a moment before finally nodding. "Yes."
Wang Gege’s eyes widened slightly. "Then... are you also a transmigrator?"
This time, Jiang Zhaoyuan’s expression changed.
The little red ladybug also became unusually quiet.
Xie Rong noticed the change immediately.
"Your Highness," he said calmly, "you don’t have to answer if you don’t wish to."
Jiang Zhaoyuan looked at him before slowly shaking his head. "No. There is no reason to hide it anymore."
His gaze shifted toward the little red ladybug. "If they have already discovered Bibi’s existence, then sooner or later, they will learn about the rest as well."
Wang Gege’s curiosity deepened. "Bibi?"
"The system’s name," Jiang Zhaoyuan explained.
The little red ladybug hovered quietly beside him, no longer showing the playful expression it had earlier.
Wang Gege studied it for a moment. "That is cute... what kind of system is it?"
Jiang Zhaoyuan did not answer immediately. Instead, his eyes lowered slightly. "It is a Main Character System."
Wang Gege froze.
Xie Rong’s expression changed.
"A Main Character System?" he repeated.
Jiang Zhaoyuan nodded. "It exists to ensure that the person who was destined to be the main character remains at the center of this world’s story."
Wang Gege slowly looked at him. "And you’re that person?"
"Yes."
For a moment, the corridor became completely silent.
Wang Gege’s expression turned thoughtful.
"If you’re the main character..." Her gaze shifted toward Xie Rong. "Husband..."
She paused, her brows slowly knitting together as she tried to recall something from her memories.
"I think I’ve read a novel before with the Eighth Prince as the main character..."
Xie Rong’s expression changed slightly.
Jiang Zhaoyuan also looked at her.
"You’ve read a novel about me?"
Wang Gege nodded uncertainly.
"I think so... I don’t remember everything clearly, but I remember the Eighth Prince was the main character." She looked at Jiang Zhaoyuan again, studying his face. "The story was probably about him fighting for the throne, wasn’t it?"
Jiang Zhaoyuan remained silent.
Wang Gege suddenly remembered something else.
"And if I remember correctly..." Her gaze shifted between Jiang Zhaoyuan and Xie Rong. "It was not a happy ending... The Eighth Prince..." She paused, choosing her words carefully, "...ended up dead."
Jiang Zhaoyuan slowly closed his eyes, his expression darkening with annoyance. "Are you trying to curse me?"
"No, no, no, Your Highness..." Wang Gege immediately shook her head, giving him an awkward smile. "I probably remembered it wrong. It might not even be related to your story."
Jiang Zhaoyuan sighed.
He fell silent for a while, his gaze shifting between Wang Gege and Xie Rong as though he were seriously considering what he should do with the two of them.
After all, they had not only discovered Bibi’s existence, but Wang Gege had also somehow remembered a story that might have been connected to him.
More importantly, if what she remembered was true, then there was a possibility that the world she had read about and the world he was currently living in were not entirely unrelated.
The thought made his expression gradually turn serious.
"What else do you remember?" he finally asked.
"Sorry?" Wang Gege raised her eyebrows in confusion. "Your Highness is asking about the plot or what?"
"Yes... the novel you were talking about." Jiang Zhaoyuan’s expression remained serious. "Tell me everything you can remember."
Wang Gege thought for a moment before slowly explaining, "From what I remember, the Eighth Prince was the main character. He was involved in the imperial struggle, and there were several princes competing for the throne. He was supposed to be intelligent and capable, and most of the story revolved around how he gradually gained power and influence."
She paused, trying to search through memories from years ago.
"I don’t remember every detail anymore. It was one of the novels I read a long time ago, so some of the plot has become blurry. I only remember that the ending wasn’t very good for the Eighth Prince..."
Jiang Zhaoyuan listened without interrupting.
Wang Gege suddenly raised her finger.
"Wait!" Her eyes widened with excitement. "Oh—oh! I think I remembered another one!"
Xie Rong looked at her. "Another novel?"
"Yes!" Wang Gege nodded enthusiastically. "It’s been so long. I think it was actually among the first novels I ever read..."
She frowned, trying to remember the title.
"Something like..." Her eyes suddenly lit up.
"Inner Thoughts: The Eighth Prince Can Hear Everything?! Or was it... Inner Thoughts: I Could Hear the Eighth Prince’s Dirty Thoughts?"
Jiang Zhaoyuan’s expression froze.
Xie Rong’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Wang Gege continued, completely unaware of their reactions.
"I remember the title was something like that! The protagonist wasn’t the Eighth Prince himself. It was a woman who somehow ended up in the palace, and she could hear the Eighth Prince’s inner thoughts or maybe he could hear hers..."
She paused.
"Actually..." Her excitement slowly faded. "I can’t remember which one it was anymore."
Jiang Zhaoyuan stared at her.
"Inner thoughts?"
"Hmm... inner thoughts..." Wang Gege nodded slowly. "You know, when you think about something in your mind without actually saying it out loud..."
Jiang Zhaoyuan’s expression became increasingly strange. "Yes, this prince knows what inner thoughts are."
"Oh..." Wang Gege blinked, suddenly realizing how ridiculous her explanation had sounded. "Then why did you ask?"
"Because..." Jiang Zhaoyuan’s gaze shifted toward Bibi.
The little red ladybug had already begun hovering nervously.
"I think that Inner Thought novel..." He paused, his expression turning unusually serious. "We are in that one..."
The words dropped heavily into the silence.
Wang Gege’s eyes widened.
Xie Rong’s expression changed as he looked at Jiang Zhaoyuan.
"You mean..." Wang Gege swallowed. "This world is the world from that novel?"
Jiang Zhaoyuan slowly nodded.
"I cannot be certain, but too many things have already deviated from what I was told this world should be like." His gaze shifted toward Bibi. "And if your memories are correct, then there is only one possibility that makes sense."
Bibi’s little body trembled. "Your Highness..."
Jiang Zhaoyuan looked directly at it, his expression unusually serious.
"What?" He sighed. "I can’t play that dirty way you suggested. I’m not even the villain in this story..."
His gaze shifted toward Wang Gege and Xie Rong, "So, if we want to figure out how to get the plot back to what it was supposed to be, we need their help."
