Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 2200 - 775: Hill’s Sensory System

Shaer looked at Hill.

She was a bit surprised that this usually indifferent child would be so perceptive when facing a potential threat to his homeland.

The reason William insisted on cooperating with Lansendel, even at the expense of sending the main forces of the Undead Tribe to this world, was because he always felt something was amiss.

The development of this world, even with such a peculiar Silvermoon, was still abnormal.

William even thought that the Silvermoon might have been thrown out to attract attention.

If Lansendel and Amanata hadn’t both confirmed that the Sun had indeed lost its True God, William would have suspected that the Sun God had also fallen.

But, even though Toril and the light-related entities were not entirely normal, they wouldn’t misjudge something like this, especially not when both made the same judgment.

So, that Sun God must have died without a trace left.

William now wanted to know how this Sun God died and whether it was Asmodeus who personally did it.

During this time, were there any other rumors?

These matters, be it for Hill or these deities, were actually very difficult to trace.

This world’s relics are plentiful and deeply hidden... The key is that most remain silent, without any trace.

Even though Hill is very lucky, in some matters, his involvement might have the opposite effect... Direct approaches often let hidden pests stay under cover.

What William wanted was a clear and coherent cause and effect, leading to a climax, not a baffling outcome.

Of course, if they were to search themselves, it might not even be as good as Hill.

The biggest problem for deities is that the traces they find always stem from those with vested interests... Only those individuals can trigger a reaction from the Law.

And some, what they might desire isn’t the benefits derived from these world-affecting Laws at all.

And those capable of causing such a major event, even sacrificing an entire world, have motives that are indecipherable... Even Shaer wouldn’t want such a neighbor.

At the very least, one would need to know who he is, what he wants, and for what reason.

When William found out that Draculus from their Teraxil was also in this world, he told Shaer: "The destiny that can attract Draculus might have some connection with him as well.

But, although Draculus is a bit ill and absolutely neutral, he wouldn’t use his home world to gain benefits.

Yet, the deities and strong entities truly drawn to this world, Hill included, are all part of the Neutral Faction in some respect.

This is definitely not a coincidence."

Therefore, William was eager to cooperate with Lansendel, deploying the Undead Tribe, who excel at uncovering secrets, entirely to this world.

Although William also suspected that the conspirator behind these events had already left this world... Otherwise, it would be understandable with Hill, but Josh? It’s hard to believe he could persist this long with just his intellect.

It’s not that he’d die, but that the possibility of him being exploited without realizing it is extremely high.

Surely, he wouldn’t let himself hide in that broken camp without leaking any information.

But regardless, what he most wants to know is the real situation, who the other party really is, what they did, and why such terrifying actions were taken.

Even though Shaer didn’t completely agree with William’s speculation, she couldn’t deny that, given the capability of that Silvermoon Goddess easily suppressed by Celene, she could barely maintain the world to this extent.

If the Sun God were alive, these mages without any legends might still hold on.

But with both of the primal deities gone... Who was supporting that Silvermoon to last until the end?

Although a soul of a deity, if it fragmented into tiny pieces, it would essentially dissipate completely within a thousand years.

Even if the Styx tributary was severed, even if that Silvermoon Goddess still had remnants, she couldn’t easily resurrect thousands of years later just because of an Aislin.

This can prove that the death of the Silvermoon Goddess wasn’t as early as rumored in this world.

With her level of intellect and power, how could she withstand so many years of persecution by Asmodeus?

Shaer also had to agree with William’s hypothesis on this matter... That Silvermoon indeed held no value by surviving until now.

Toril Gods, even if Ambori came, would likely have taken her down.

Shaer was a bit surprised that although William hadn’t told Hill anything, Hill had intuitively sensed something was off.

She remembered AO’s evaluation of this child... Once he realizes what I’ve stuffed him with, those things would already be useless.

If it weren’t for tidying up before leaving, Hill might have never discovered the Nyscroll, not to mention those broken so-called Divine Artifacts... Items that only respond at specific moments to specific individuals, not discovering them is not that surprising.

But AO assuredly said, as long as Hill takes a slightly careful look, he’ll definitely spot the issues with those items.

Another thing that greatly surprised AO was the Luck Cards Kelben from Deepwater City tossed to Hill.

Normally, after flipping that item, the chances of a tragic ending are larger.

But Hill couldn’t possibly be unaware that, given his luck, even the worst outcome was still in the 2000 Gold Coin range.

Yet he had no intention of flipping it open, instead hanging it in his study as a reminder to be wary of the madman.

AO was already prepared for some of the Divine Artifacts in his hands to be flipped by Hill... The Path of Destiny is unsolvable.

As a Child of Nature, Hill is very likely to extract some Divine Artifacts related to the Law of the Earth.

Those things are basically accompaniments of the divinity discarded directly by Shantia, forced by Shaer.

Although they’re in AO’s warehouse, they are essentially ownerless.

As long as Hill touches them, he can directly become a deity of certain Law of the Earth.

However, he hasn’t done anything.

The key point is, the reason he doesn’t do anything isn’t because he senses a crisis, but simply because he ’can’t see.’

This actually stems from Hill’s nature.

He’s very alert to crises, but indifferent to some interests unrelated to him.

Hill’s luck also won’t help him in this regard.

But the hidden presence beneath the water in this world isn’t necessarily an enemy of Teraxil... even William admits that this guy is just dangerous, but indeed hasn’t schemed against Teraxil.

That’s why he said this presence might also be a bit weirdly neutral.

William must find him, just not wanting such a terrifying presence next to his home, but it doesn’t mean he wants to do anything to that guy.

Hill, on the other hand, clearly showed unease.

Yet he hasn’t actually realized why he’s uneasy... so he directly put his doubts on the Alchemy Potion that caught his attention most.

Shaer tilted her head... wondering if William and Hill’s investigations would eventually lead to the same destination.

But in some matters, Shaer will only observe and won’t intervene.

Her target remains that Tower of Despair.

Heh~ At least that place should not hold the secrets Hill and William are searching for.

If Vikna had found anything, he certainly wouldn’t have been so honest.

From that eye, Shaer sensed an endless ambition... and thereby judged that this guy must be a deity of a similar type to Cyric.

Being in darkness yet letting ambition surpass reason, utterly unable to control his own desires—a deity ultimately being devoured by darkness.

Shaer, in recalling the Path of Destiny of the Goddess of Magic this time, occasionally shudders all over... even as she resides in the bone-chilling Shadow Realm, she still feels a deeper cold.

She actually knows the extent of her own capabilities.

For the Shadow Weave, Shaer believes that at that time, she could definitely go to great lengths to make Mystra live then die, and die then live.

Until the Weave and the Shadow Weave split apart again.

How much reason would she have left by then?

The more Shaer understands those things, the calmer she becomes.

Calmly abandoning many past obsessions... sometimes madness is merely because of caring.

She’s still the Shaer who wants the world to return to desolation, but she’s no longer in such a hurry.

And Shaer is quite curious to know whether this crazy Lord of Secrets can make her understanding of certain things more profound.

The more meticulous her observation of Vikna, the clearer her own future path becomes.

Shaer also knows what Hill’s occasional glances mean... although that child has tried hard to cover them up, they’re still too obvious.

Able to see through the Night Cloak’s performance at a glance, how could she be misled by Hill’s poor acting?

That child genuinely feels Shaer’s feelings toward William are too sincere, resulting in constant clandestine disdain and slander toward William.

Moreover, it’s envy—Hill is envious, yet he’s clearly unwilling to immerse himself in a relationship with anyone.

Though he seems immature, his behavior in this aspect is quite mature.

Really, it’s very interesting.

Thus, Shaer has been quite happy during this period... she rarely had the chance before to observe people with whom she had some degree of fondness.

It turns out, as long as you find someone cute, observing them always brings joy.

She wouldn’t find them increasingly disgusting, constantly making her want to kill people to pique her interest.

Hill scratched his head, always feeling a bit itchy in his ears, as if someone was whispering about him.

But at this time, there are already plenty of folks gossiping about his ruthless and vengeful nature.

He didn’t pay much heed and had List activate the Puppet to purchase at the Magic Tower’s bottom level.

The rear of the bottom level originally had a backdoor leading to a half-plane, but after Purwell’s body was destroyed, Hill moved the entrance elsewhere.

Now, it’s just perfect for letting the Undead Tribe who took on tasks exit from the rear side.
