Surviving The Fourth Calamity
Chapter 2187 - 762: Everyone Has Their Own Little Schemes
Shaer’s reminder was quite timely, something Hill hadn’t thought of himself.
Although the billions of Elves perished in the Dawn Calamity are quite famous, they mostly exist as part of the background, often making people forget that they were living beings too.
However, there’s not much one can do about it... their manner of death was truly unique.
Most of the time, it feels like the prequel background before a movie premieres.
People move on after watching, let go after hearing it, few delve deep into the matter.
Moreover, they don’t harbor the Nether resentment found in other incidents of national demise, nor are there desolate ruins with Necromancy lingering.
They even took their pet dogs with them to Lansendel’s Divine Kingdom, leaving no grudges behind.
Often, tales of sorrow and desolation are sung by disaster survivors... reminiscing about past days and mourning dear friends and relatives.
But, these Elves likely have no close relatives left behind.
Furthermore, the Dawn Calamity is more like a dreadful lesson, hard to make one feel... pain and helplessness.
Even outsiders, when mentioning this event, feel a mixture of emotions focusing entirely on Lansendel who initiated all this.
No one can really say anything about those Elves...
To say they had it easy, they certainly had their hardships.
Initially, they were one of the formidable forces in the Ferun Great Land, yet suddenly rendered powerless.
Reaching Lansendel’s Divine Kingdom, there’s no place for their competitive spirit.
But if their situation is deemed bad... Elves are long-lived, not immortal.
Many Elf Royalty had to face their dwindling days, then directly embrace death.
Although the Elven Divine Kingdom welcomes Elves, these must be pious followers of Deities, descendants connected with All Gods... such as the Royal Family of Elf Kingdoms, and those contributing tremendously to the whole race.
The remaining Elves, although not left to await like other souls in Styx, are still washed by Styx, leaving only a touch of Aura, returning to the Elf Tree, awaiting the day of reincarnation... but by then they’re no longer themselves.
Yet, those billions of Elves following Lansendel to complete this Dawn Calamity, regardless of status, all entered the Dawn Realm together.
Such a situation makes others feel complex when mentioning this, and eventually, people rarely discuss their existence.
So, one can’t blame Hill for not remembering.
Though Lansendel allows them a carefree life in the Divine Kingdom, mentally they’re not really despondent... with the speed at which rumors spread from the Dawn Tower, these Elves probably know everything.
At times, boredom is inevitable.
Thus, Lansendel mentioned they have many Alchemical Oddities with artistic value.
Hill could almost figure it out... Elves enjoy comparisons in craftsmanship.
If unique artworks become popular in the mortal Elf World, these Elves in the Divine Kingdom would definitely imitate, striving to outperform others.
Yet once done, they serve no purpose but to pile up indoors... fortunately, the Divine Kingdom surely has no dust.
However, these batches of objects indeed suit as rewards for the Undead Tribe.
All are one type of Strange Objects, even the basic attributes seem similar.
Yet each has subtle differences, even differing additional attributes... the Undead Tribe would surely desire them.
"Shaer, no need to mock me over there." Lansendel is no Saint to take a beating without retaliating, "Ah, no wait, are you jealous?
William showed great interest in my suggestion.
Indeed, your words were quite acidic... Ha~ your Night Cloak, valued for the Undead Tribe, might only teach how to stab right."
Shaer didn’t even blink at the sarcasm: "Thank you for the praise, I am quite pleased with the Mortal World imprint left by the Envoy of the Night.
Helping William is certainly your honor."
Lansendel tilted his head, his jaw clicked a few times, suddenly deflated: "Oh~ I’m not unable to disgust you.
But, William hasn’t offended me!
I can’t just harm a good person to make you unhappy.
Really... why did he fancy you, such a thing?"
Shaer smiled at him... clearly pleased to hear.
For the Lady of the Night, such words are rather a compliment.
"Sir." List appeared beside him, "Mr. Josh has settled, young Mr. Russell agreed with him to wait until Mr. Josh rests and then discuss constructing their Magic Towers together.
However, as we approach that magnetic peak, though the Array nullifying magnetic attraction is activated, the Gangfeng cannot penetrate the outer Defensive Shield, but..."
List said hesitantly, "That peak resembles a natural spire, if we land, there might not be enough space for constructing the Dawn Tower.
Mister, do you think we need to choose a peak nearby to dock?"
Hill suddenly realized... he just remembered that his Magic Tower also needed a place to dock.
It’s not that it can’t keep flying; even if this place is quite dangerous and all the arrays must be activated simultaneously, Hill wouldn’t mind the energy consumption.
However, Hill was very clear that before that Dawn Tower is built, the Undead Tribe must come to him first... Lansendel isn’t leaving, and even brought Josh over; isn’t that the plan?
This guy’s original plan wasn’t like this. When he just arrived in this world, during his conversation with Hill, it was obvious he planned to use the ruins of the Defense Tower as the stepping stone for the Undead Tribe to enter this world.
Then, to let the Undead Tribe help rebuild the Defense Tower first, and later consider his Dawn Tower.
Honestly, this approach is more in line with the usual style of the Lord of Dawn.
Though he seems quite informal, Lansendel is actually generous and kind to the common people and the suffering masses.
But upon discovering Josh had left for years, yet remained the same... after guarding the Defense Tower for so many years and still not having anyone usable under his command, Lansendel quickly changed his plan.
However, he should have been prepared with dual plans; he just held onto a thread of hope that Josh might mature a bit.
Unfortunately, their Chuunibyou Teenager, hoping to grow into the wise youth like the one in Deepwater City, is not easy.
Nevertheless, from the beginning Lansendel actually hinted to Hill... Hill, of course, also responded to him.
The Great Peacock is capricious, but never forces anyone.
Hill guessed only Celene didn’t understand his exchange with Lansendel, but Shaer certainly got it clearly.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be just squatting in Hill’s Magic Tower like this.
How to put it... the war with the Sia Tower is about slaying demons and monsters, but unearthing the shadows behind the Tower of Despair can also become certain side-quest plots for the Undead Tribe.
In the past, no matter what Shaer wanted to do, especially in Toril, it was absolutely impossible to let the Undead Tribe take on any quests... even though Shaer had a high presence on the Path of Destiny, that was all about mutual assistance.
But official quests were impossible... Shaer herself couldn’t guarantee there wouldn’t be some trickery in those seemingly normal quests.
Though it wouldn’t trick the Undead Tribe, sometimes certain things are better left undone.
Yet in this world, when Shaer’s target is Vikna, it can instead become a type of side-story quest.
Just like in Aesces, despite the poor relationship with Rose, some of her little quests were still taken on by the Undead Tribe... Anyway, no matter whom Rose intends to trick there, she wouldn’t trick her own people and good people.
Otherwise, Shaer wouldn’t speak such sour words.
Of course, she wouldn’t be jealous that Lansendel satisfied William extremely well, but Shaer, unable to produce rewards of equal quality, was bound to feel a bit envious.
From Hill’s understanding of her, Shaer wouldn’t let William help her produce quest rewards.
The Lady of the Night doesn’t lack some good things herself.
But she doesn’t have any finished products.
Of course, with Shaer’s discerning eye, even the gemstones and various materials just meant for stacking in the warehouse won’t be of inferior quality.
But for the Undead Tribe, while making money is indeed important, the limited-time, limited-quantity quest rewards are something that can’t be missed.
Lansendel certainly understands why Shaer is picking on him.
But like he said... the sarcastic remarks that can be spoken, Shaer doesn’t feel them.
Those that can’t be spoken, every sentence has to involve William.
With Lansendel’s character, he’s incapable of implicating the innocent... as long as he knows.
Hill certainly doesn’t intend to get involved in such boring bickering, so he immediately stood up and circled the three-dimensional mountain map a few times.
Finally, he gritted his teeth and confirmed: "Parking here, just fine.
Oh, I want to see the sea."
List hesitated for a few seconds before enlarging the sea cliff Hill pointed out and asked: "In this location... the entrance is probably only three... just a little over two meters.
Mister, although this mountain is not considered tall, it still measures at eight hundred meters."
Hill nodded affirmatively: "That’s great~ No need to run downhill, just slide down."
Lansendel walked over with keen interest: "Hmm, Hill, you truly are a good friend of the Undead Tribe!
If they were to take on my reconstruction tasks, they’d have to go around a big circle."
The mountain Hill pointed out is very compact.
Although the slope on the inland-facing side is about 45 degrees, not as sheer as the Magnet Mountain chosen by the Great Peacock, the summit area is especially small.
Small enough that Hill’s Magic Tower parked on top would probably have a part of it hanging in the void.
Lansendel glanced at the color of the mountain peak on the map... oh, the Steel Mountain covered in saltwater seems to have shimmering ice flowers.
