Surviving the Apocalypse with my Multiplier System

Chapter 282: Training Day 2

“A red liquid?”

Lyle nodded, “I’m not sure what it does. Everyone who’s ever gotten the shot disappeared. I’ve never seen them again.”

Julian frowned. He was almost positive that the red liquid had to do with the drug. It also made sense that the strong and burly men would get injected over the scrawny guys.

About forty minutes later, Instructor J came back. “Line up, ladies! We’re going back for more training!”

Julian finished the water in his cup and followed Lyle to line up in front of the instructor. He was feeling okay after the short break, but there were plenty of others who were still recovering from the run.

Everyone followed the instructor back to the gymnasium where they had been earlier.

“Okay, we’ll start with push-ups. Everyone spread out!”

Once everyone found their spot on the floor, Instructor J blew his whistle. “Okay, everyone, get on the floor. We’ll be going at the pace of my whistle. Anyone who falls behind won’t be eating tomorrow!”

A few people grumbled but dropped to the floor and got into position, waiting for the whistle.

For the next hour, Julian, along with the rest of the group, was forced to do hundreds of pushups with minimal breaks in between.

By the time they finished for the evening, everyone was drenched in sweat and exhausted. The majority of the group wasn’t able to complete the entire set; therefore denied a meal tomorrow.

Those who did complete it felt excited. The promise of having a meal tomorrow caused a few of them to even let out a smile.

The instructor watched the scene, nodding his head. Everything was going according to his plans.

“Alright, rats! Line up! We’re going back!”

Once inside the barracks, Instructor J pointed at Lyle and Julian, “You two, come with me.”

Julian wiped the sweat off his face with his shirt and walked over to stand in front of the instructor, curious why he was called over.

“Follow me, I’ll bring you to the canteen as promised,” he said and turned to leave the room.

Julian was slightly surprised that he actually kept his word. He fully expected that his promises were nothing but fake words of motivation.

He followed the instructor down the hallway in the opposite direction of the workout room. They walked down a flight of stairs and into another hallway, where Instructor J let out a big laugh.

“I’ll let you boys in on a little secret. This is the best hallway in the entire complex. These rooms over here are where all of the beauties stay.”

Julian immediately lifted his head and looked around, ingraining the layout into memory.

If this is where the ‘beauties’ are held, this must be where Rayne is…

Unfortunately, all he could see were the concrete walls and wooden doors. There were no windows or vents to allow him to look inside.

“I see you trying to peek, hehe. Let me tell you. If you make up the leadership ladder, you can request a beauty to keep you company! They’re all trained, so they know how to do it well,” he laughed.

“In the meantime, if you get lucky enough, you can take a peek at them through the security room. There’s a giant one-way mirror that you can watch them from.”

Julian’s steps halted for a moment. He didn’t like the idea of Rayne being constantly watched from a one-way mirror. So far, all of the men he encountered were depraved, and he hoped that nothing bad would happen to her before they completed the mission.

She has her system. If things go bad, she can protect herself. She’s smart and knows how to protect herself.

He continued to convince himself over and over again, until they reached the last room in the hall.

“Stay close to me. If you piss someone off in here, you’re as good as dead.”

Lyle and Julian nodded and followed him through the door. Inside was a very large open cafeteria. It resembled something like a school or hospital cafeteria, where one had to pick up a tray and ask for specific items to be scooped for you by the staff.

“Listen, since you’re both bottom of the barrel, you only get a soup and a piece of bread. Don’t ask for anything else.”

Julian and Lyle both nodded, then shifted their attention to observe the people around them further.

“Have you been here before?” asked Julian, quietly enough so that only Lyle could hear him.

“No.” Lyle shook his head and looked around curiously. “Food was always delivered to us; we never really got to leave the room much outside of training and missions.”

Julian nodded, taking note of the information.

They queued up in line behind Instructor J and looked at the various food options presented to them behind a glass case. Everything looked so decently cooked that even Julian was surprised at how they were able to maintain so many supplies.

Their settlement had Rayne, who could provide an infinite amount of food, but this base must’ve stockpiled for years in order to maintain this quality.

Lyle looked around with wide eyes, unable to believe that so much food would be in a single place.

Everything looked appetizing, especially after a few days of not eating.

“Yo J, you’re here for dinner? Are those two with you?” one of the kitchen staff walked over and greeted Instructor J.

“Yeah, they’re with me. Only two that have a brain amongst the new recruits. I told them that they can get a soup.”

“Oh, they’re in luck! It’s chicken noodle today! We recently got a big shipment of chickens,” replied the kitchen worker.

“You hear that, boys? You two are a lucky bunch, haha!” laughed Instructor J.

Hearing about the chickens, Julian clenched his jaw. If his guess was correct, these chickens should be from the chicken farm.

“Are you okay?” asked Lyle, seeing Julian’s angry expression.

“Yeah, just had a bad memory come up,” replied Julian.

After they got the soup, they followed Instructor J to sit down at a small table.

“Normally, I get the food to-go, but bringing food into that barracks room would only cause more problems,” said Instructor J.

His tray was filled with different food: rice, chicken wings, canned corn, and even a slice of cake.

Julian shifted his gaze to the soup, noticing that it was mostly broth.

“Go on, eat up. I won’t be waiting on you two to finish.”

Hearing the instructor’s words, Julian and Lyle finally lifted their spoons and began to eat.
