Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Lya

"Yes, I am well aware of how territorial you are. I have been breached by Oddy." Penelope said.

"Good, this is our sanctuary. Sister, is it okay If I stay here and not greet them? It’s not that I don’t want to, but humans tend to be....a bit dramatic when they see legendary beast." Alyanna sounded so serious when she asked this.

Penelope nodded and smiled at her. She found this little bird too cute. "Lya, can you tell me how you know all of this? I thought you have been an egg, waiting on me to wake you for centuries?"

"Lya? Did you change my name again? But I really liked Alyana better."

"Pfftttt. It’s a nickname. Your name is still Alyanna, but that’s just to shorten it. Lay sounds better than Ally, don’t you think?" Penelope said.

"Hmm? If you insist. You humans are rather peculiar. Well, the reason why I know so much is because our soul bond let’s me digest all the information your brain has sent. Including your memories. It’s a really strange thing. One minute your laying with a fever here, then your in another place dying of illness, and then your back here. How is that possible? I learned everything I needed to learn. Once I am able to cultivate into a human body others wont be able to tell the difference between me and other humans" She said gloating.

"So you are now aware of worldly affairs?" Penelope asked.

"Yes, you could say that. I now understand human etiquette and manners. I can hold knowledgeable conversations. Given that it’s information you know. After all, all my knowledge comes from what you already know and lived" She said as she flew around the cave.

"So, my memories have been dumped into your brain as well?" Penelope asked, mortified. Could she see her memories of her past life? Even those with her ex-boyfriend? Oh my god, she hoped not. Regardless of how ancient this mighty bird was, she was still a child.

Just when she thought she had corrupted her mind she heard Lya say "Well, I got most of it. I blocked out some unnecessary information. Anyways, I think those humas are waking up."

Ben and Aunt Lucy were done? That was pretty fast. She said her goodbye to Alyanna, promising to visit soon, and walked away.

Killian’s P.O.V.

"So, how long are you going to keep sulking? We are family, you’re just going to cut me out because of a woman?" Chris asked me. This asshole was sitting across from me in my office.

If it wasn’t because I wanted to come and retrieve the gold in the safe, I would never had cross paths with this.

My feeling for Chris were complicated. I didn’t hate him as much as I thought I should. I mean, he did play a part in my death. But hatred wasn’t what I was feeling. And that’s what was causing me to feel confused. I should hate him, I should want to destroy him.

"Kil, I’m talking to you. Look, I know I fucked up. Okay, I admit that this wasn’t honorable. Things between Sasha and I just happened." He said as he raked his hand over his hair. He looked worn out. Tired.

"How long?" I heard myself asking. I knew the why, I just wanted know how long.

"What?" He asked me. Not expecting me to ask that question.

"I asked, how long have you been fucking my girlfriend. How long has this affair been going?" I asked again.

"Well..." he hesitated to talk. I could see him thinking of a way to spin the story to his favor. "It happened a few weeks ago, when we all attended the birthday banquet for Grandmother Perry. We were drugged. It was weird. We had no recollection of it happening. When we woke up we had already....already done the deed. We didn’t want to betray you. It never happened again, just that one time."

Did he really think I would buy that shit? I had a private investigator check it out, they had been together for years. Plotting my downfall. All for what? Shares? Control?

Simply because my uncle felt he deserved the CEO position to a company he did not build? My parents, my mother and father built this company. My parents allowed them to have positions in this company out of familial ties. But these motherfuckers just had to get greedy. They wanted more than they could chew.

Chris was seriously sitting here, telling me a bullshit lie, just to stay in my good grace? Ha! I would have to be a fool to believe a story of that caliber.

"Chris, do you know why I’ve managed to stay the CEO all this time? No matter how many tried to usurp my position.... It’s because I could tell when a person is lying to me. I investigate everything. I know all the lies and schemes you and your family have plotted against me. Do you know why, no matter what you do, you’re always beneath me? It’s because for every move you make, I’ve already made ten." I said.

This cousin of mine was really something else. If he would have used all his scheming and intelligence on himself, he could have been a powerful ceo of his own company. But no, he just had to covet what wasn’t his.

Chris just sat there, staring into the abyss. Then he began to laugh.

"hahahaaha, See that’s always been your problem. You consider yourself so mighty. Always looking down on others, always thinking you are superior to us. But look at you, how are you any better? You got a company, sure, but how did you inherit it. With the deaths of your parents. You got money? Sure, but who do you have to spend that money with? Sasha? Please, she went to you on my orders. She loved me so much she humiliated herself by pretending to love you. Look, every time she spent your money, it was spent on me. Tell me, what’s so great about an orphan like yourself? You’re nothing but a jinx who will never know true happiness. ahahahahahah" This guy was nuts. He was having a meltdown in my office, dammit, it was almost 6pm. This guy probably hasn’t noticed that we no longer have communication.

And what did he mean by calling me a jinx? My parents died but not because I caused their deaths. Did he think that sort of talk would break me? Just how pathetic did this idiot think I was.

Right when I was starting to lose my patience, I thought of the person waiting for me. Sure she wasn’t a lover, but she was my friend. I had a good friend waiting for me. He would never have that. He would forever be burdened with those greedy bastards he calls family.
