Surviving the apocalypse with a wife and a system! [GL]
Chapter 291: The golden fruit 2.
Bai Li narrowed her eyes slightly. She had learned by now that whenever the system used a grand name for something, there was usually a reason behind it. She looked around at the others, making sure nobody had noticed her brief pause.
"What exactly do you mean by the golden fruit of immortality?" Bai Li asked silently.
The system immediately responded.
"The Golden Fruit of Immortality is a rare evolutionary fruit produced by the Pomelo Tree. It is a special mutated life-form born from the fusion of the tree’s natural vitality, the energy of the apocalypse, and the powerful mutation energy gathering within a high concentration area."
Bai Li remained silent.
The system continued.
"The fruit does not provide true immortality. The name is derived from its extraordinary ability to strengthen the body, repair damaged tissues, improve cellular vitality, and greatly increase the natural lifespan of the person who consumes it. Under normal circumstances, a person’s body will continue to age and eventually decline. The Golden Fruit of Immortality can greatly slow down this process by restoring vitality to damaged cells and improving the body’s ability to repair itself."
Bai Li’s expression became a little more serious.
"So it can extend life?"
"Yes."
"How much?"
The system paused for a moment before answering in its usual calm voice.
"That depends on the physique of the individual who consumes it, the strength of their body, the degree of mutation within their body, and the amount of energy they are already able to absorb. For an ordinary healthy human, the fruit may greatly improve physical condition, prolong natural lifespan, and prevent many forms of bodily decline. For an awakened human, the effects can be even greater."
Bai Li frowned slightly.
"Even greater?"
"Yes. The Golden Fruit of Immortality does not merely nourish the body. It contains a highly concentrated form of life energy and mutation energy. When consumed by an awakened individual, this energy may repair hidden damage in the body, strengthen the foundation of their superpower, improve their control over their ability, and in some cases even cause their existing superpower to evolve."
Bai Li’s eyes narrowed.
"Evolve?"
"Yes."
The system’s voice remained calm, but the information it gave sounded increasingly unbelievable.
"There is also a possibility that the fruit may help a person awaken a superpower if they do not already possess one."
Bai Li finally went completely still.
Even she could not pretend that sentence did not matter.
In the apocalypse, ordinary humans and awakened humans lived in almost completely different worlds. An awakened person had a better chance of surviving. Their strength, reaction speed, special abilities, and resistance to dangerous environments could mean the difference between walking out of a disaster alive or becoming food for a monster. A person with no ability might spend days carefully avoiding danger, while an awakened person might be able to destroy the same danger in a matter of seconds.
And now the system was telling her that this fruit could potentially awaken a superpower in an ordinary person.
"Wait," Bai Li asked, "you said potentially. How high is the chance?"
"The system cannot provide an exact success rate."
"Why?"
"Because the result depends heavily on the individual. The fruit is not a guaranteed awakening medicine. It is capable of pushing the human body beyond its natural limits, but whether a superpower manifests depends on the person’s constitution, mental strength, mutation compatibility, and the amount of energy their body can withstand."
Bai Li rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
"So someone could eat it and only become physically stronger?"
"Yes."
"And someone else could awaken a superpower?"
"Yes."
"And an awakened person could make their ability stronger?"
"Yes."
Bai Li’s expression turned slightly complicated.
"Then this thing is practically a treasure chest."
"The description is not entirely inaccurate."
For the first time, Bai Li almost laughed.
The system was becoming more and more straightforward these days.
However, before she could ask anything else, the system continued explaining the fruit.
"The Golden Fruit of Immortality possesses a second important property. Its life energy is highly pure. It can replenish physical strength, repair injuries, improve resistance, and increase the body’s ability to endure mutation. It can also strengthen bones, muscles, blood, organs, and internal energy circulation. The process is not instantaneous in every individual. Some effects may appear immediately after consumption, while others may gradually develop over time."
Bai Li listened carefully.
The system continued as if it had opened an encyclopedia and had no intention of stopping anytime soon.
"The fruit also contains a special purification effect. It can remove a portion of harmful substances accumulated within the body. In an ordinary person, this may help restore vitality and improve resistance to disease. In awakened humans, it may reduce the burden placed on the body by superpower usage and help repair damage caused by long-term energy consumption."
Bai Li’s expression became more focused.
That last part was important.
In the apocalypse, strength did not only come from having a powerful ability. A person needed a body strong enough to support that ability. Some awakened humans could use their powers only a few times before becoming exhausted, injured, or even suffering internal damage. If the fruit could improve their foundation, its actual value would be much greater than simply extending lifespan.
"What about people who have not awakened yet?" Bai Li asked.
"The fruit may strengthen their bodies to a point where the mutation energy within them becomes active. If their body possesses awakening potential, the fruit may trigger a superpower awakening."
"May?"
"Yes."
"Still no guarantee?"
"No guarantee."
Bai Li sighed quietly.
"At least you are honest."
"The system does not make false promises."
Bai Li did not reply immediately.
She looked toward Yan Cijin without making it obvious. Yan Cijin was still busy with her own task, her expression calm and focused. There was nothing unusual about her appearance, but Bai Li had already learned that the woman was much stronger than she looked. She silently wondered what would happen if someone like Yan Cijin consumed the fruit.
