Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 422 - 421: Heaven’s Retribution
Chapter 422: Chapter 421: Heaven’s Retribution
Oh, well. Who was she to argue? It was her boss’s pet, after all.
After about half an hour, Seraphina Sinclair finished taking inventory of the supplies in the mobile cabin.
The number of Expansion Crystals matched the number Luna Jacobs had mentioned—exactly the 736 she had confessed to having in the arena.
As for Luna Jacobs’s other items...
All resources, materials, and single-use items were confiscated. Seraphina Sinclair left her the Engraving Master’s toolset and, out of the goodness of her heart, even let her keep the C-level dagger.
Seraphina Sinclair let her keep the weapon for two reasons. First, the description of the puppet ability stated multiple times that puppets are absolutely loyal, so Seraphina didn’t need to be on guard against her. Second, Engraving Masters are extremely rare, and Seraphina didn’t want anything to happen to her.
After roughly sorting the items, Seraphina Sinclair sat on the floor and began examining Luna Jacobs’s supplies, one by one.
’Say what you will, getting ahold of her has certainly made things convenient.’
’If there’s anything I don’t understand, I can just ask the original owner.’
’If Shatterer had become my puppet back then, would I have had to be so timid and hesitant about using Heart-piercing Grace?’
’Back then, I really thought I was done for against that dragon. Besides Heart-piercing Grace, I didn’t have any other items that could turn the tables, which is why I ended up betting my life on it.’
’Luckily, I won.’
Once Seraphina Sinclair finished sorting all the supplies, she looked at Luna Jacobs. "What you said earlier about the four major professions—was it all true?"
Luna Jacobs nodded. "It’s true. Those records are on the Engraving Master’s Stone Tablet."
"Is there anything you left out?"
Luna Jacobs fell silent for a moment.
Seraphina Sinclair could feel her thinking.
It wasn’t the ’should I lie?’ kind of thinking, but rather her organizing her words. This was one of the effects of the puppet connection—she couldn’t lie to Seraphina Sinclair.
"Yes. The Stone Tablet is very clear. The first of the four major professions to emerge was the Pharmacist. Back then, living beings would just process all sorts of strange things into liquids and mix them together. As time went on, the distinct profession of Pharmacist was established.
Then came the Rune Master. Legend has it that an incredibly wise being drank a Potion, witnessed the changes within their own body, and used that insight to create various runes. Only after that did other beings begin to search for a medium for these runes.
The materials they initially found were unsuitable; they couldn’t withstand the immense power of the runes. It wasn’t until rune paper was invented that the Rune Master profession was formally established.
Further on, the Sealing Master emerged. This profession was also influenced by runes, leading to the creation of barriers that could block attacks and seals that could suppress a weapon’s original effects.
And we Engraving Masters are the culmination of both Pharmacists and Rune Masters. This is what’s written on the Stone Tablet: ’The rune is made manifest without, the Potion works its magic within. The Engraving Master, cultivating both, inscribes upon matter to make it eternal.’"
Seraphina Sinclair glanced at Luna Jacobs.
’Luna Jacobs is definitely telling the truth, but I can’t help feeling she said all that just to lead into that last sentence.’
’And as she said it, her expression was tinged with pride, as if Rune Masters and Pharmacists were no match for Engraving Masters.’
Watching the unconcealable pride on Luna Jacobs’s face, she suddenly found it rather interesting.
’This woman just became my puppet, had all her possessions confiscated, and got beaten by me twice, yet she still has the nerve to be here showing off her profession?’
’And she’s doing it by putting others down to lift herself up.’
’The one she’s putting down is the Rune Master.’
’And the one she’s lifting up is herself.’
’Luna Jacobs is quite a character.’
"Anything else?" Seraphina Sinclair’s voice was nonchalant, as if she couldn’t care less.
Luna Jacobs spent a moment trying to decipher her new boss’s meaning. She had already explained the origins of the four major professions; that was everything on the Stone Tablet.
And she had even taken the opportunity to sing the praises of Engraving Masters.
’Although I feel like I was just stating facts,’ she thought, ’praising Engraving Masters like that in front of a Rune Master probably wasn’t the best idea.’
Luna Jacobs looked at Seraphina Sinclair and added, as if trying to backtrack, "At the end of the day, we Engraving Masters are just standing on the shoulders of giants. Without the cumulative achievements of the earlier professions, how could ours have flourished so quickly?"
Looking at Luna Jacobs’s face, plastered with a fawning expression, Seraphina Sinclair suddenly wanted to laugh.
’This woman changes her tune fast.’
’A moment ago, she was as proud as a peacock spreading its tail. Now she’s all curled up, practically wishing she could write the words "I’m a humble little lamb" across her forehead.’
’Too bad the connection between us means she can’t hide her true thoughts.’
Seraphina Sinclair could feel that, deep down, Luna Jacobs still believed Engraving Masters were the most powerful. She was just paying lip service.
"You don’t have to backtrack," Seraphina Sinclair said.
Luna Jacobs froze for a second. "What?"
"I’m not mad."
Luna Jacobs blinked. The fawning look on her face slowly faded, replaced by a strange expression.
It was a look of both relief and... disappointment.
Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t understand where the disappointment came from.
But she didn’t ask.
’Luna Jacobs is my puppet. As long as she’s useful, that’s all that matters.’
As for the puppet’s thoughts, Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t care less. After organizing the supplies, she moved on to other matters.
Luna Jacobs stared at Seraphina Sinclair’s profile for a while. Seeing that she truly didn’t care, Luna thoughtfully scratched her own head.
’Heh... this new boss of mine... she seems a little different from everyone else.’
While Luna’s imagination ran wild about the future, Seraphina Sinclair opened the regional channel.
She had wasted a lot of time in the arena with Luna Jacobs, and then spent more time sorting through everything afterward. Now, the regional channel was abuzz with discussion about Luna Jacobs’s death.
"Did you guys see? Artemis’s name is grayed out!"
"I saw it, I saw it! I took a screenshot! It’s really gray!"
"Holy shit! The big shot Artemis is dead? Who killed her?"
"No idea. I didn’t see any announcement, so she definitely wasn’t killed by another survivor. It’s pretty interesting, though. Artemis had just announced she was going to sell Expansion Crystals on the regional channel, and now she’s gone."
"Couldn’t have died to monsters while she was on the move, right? A big shot of her Level would die to monsters?"
"Hahaha! It’s karma! This is divine retribution! See? Do evil and Heaven will see to you!"
’Divine retribution?’
A slight smile touched Seraphina Sinclair’s lips. ’Since when did I become Heaven?’
The discussion in the regional channel continued:
"Well, she definitely wasn’t killed by a survivor. I’ve been keeping an eye on the announcement feed, and I didn’t see anyone use an arena challenge on Artemis."
"But how could someone like Artemis die to monsters? She’s a top-tier expert. If even she could be killed by monsters..."
"Then how do you think she died?"
"How should I know?"
"Could it have been internal conflict within her team? I just went and checked—Cloudmute is dead, too."
"Did anyone see who used an arena challenge on Cloudmute?"
