Chapter 355: The Secretion of the Flowing Wind Fox Tail Gland
Chapter 355: Chapter 355: The Secretion of the Flowing Wind Fox Tail Gland
Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart. There was some frustration, some bitterness, but mostly, it was a defiant refusal to fall behind.
Still... the ability was certainly impressive. Seraphina Sinclair wasn’t just marveling; she was already considering how to utilize the Gloom Hatchling’s power.
After all, this dragon would have to stay with her until it reached adulthood.
Seraphina Sinclair figured she should train the Gloom Hatchling to be a proper little guardian!
There was no rush. She would have to help it develop the habit slowly over time.
At that thought, Seraphina Sinclair looked up at the Gloom Hatchling again. It lay prone on the ground, the tip of its tail held perfectly still, its red eyes locked on her, still waiting for something.
Seraphina Sinclair stared at it for a moment, then took out a small piece of jerky from her Silver Moon Earrings and held it in front of the Gloom Hatchling.
It tilted its head back and twitched its nose. After catching the familiar scent, it didn’t gulp the jerky down. Instead, it looked up at Seraphina Sinclair.
Seeing that the human’s expression was neutral and the treat was already right at its mouth, it finally flicked out its tongue and swept the jerky inside.
The Gloom Hatchling seemed to treasure this hard-earned piece of jerky. It narrowed its eyes, savoring the taste for a long while before beginning to chew in small bites. Only when all the flavor was gone, completely gone, did it reluctantly swallow.
It raised its head again, gazing at Seraphina Sinclair with pleading red eyes, the tip of its tail sweeping the ground in an attempt to curry favor.
Seraphina Sinclair ignored it. She took out the two D-level Supply Boxes and lifted their lids.
The contents were very basic, mostly compressed energy blocks.
After opening so many D-level Supply Boxes, Seraphina Sinclair had started to notice a pattern.
F-level Supply Boxes most commonly dropped a few types of basic materials, while E-level Supply Boxes most commonly dropped those three types of Crystal Stones. Now that she was finally opening D-level Supply Boxes, the Crystal Stones had disappeared, and compressed energy blocks were taking their place.
These items were likely the most common drops for their respective tiers of Supply Boxes, which meant...
Seraphina Sinclair’s luck was just plain bad.
The moment that thought popped into her head, Seraphina Sinclair was jolted back to her senses by a cold prickle from the Water Dragon Roar in her hand.
’If my luck is bad, then no one’s is good!’
That was an A-level Engraving Scroll, with a mere zero-point-eight percent chance, and she had pulled it!
A smile played on Seraphina Sinclair’s lips. She gleefully hugged the Water Dragon Roar and sat back down on the floor, ready to wait for the next wave of black fog.
...
Seraphina Sinclair’s internal clock woke her early on Sunday morning.
Her morning routine was always the same, but Seraphina Sinclair didn’t mind. She got dressed, stretched lazily, and went to the bathroom to wash up.
After yesterday’s move, she had spent all her remaining time studying the Gale Rune.
Seraphina Sinclair had no experience learning runes, so she had to resort to her own crude method: observing it repeatedly and trying to copy it into her notebook with a pen.
The rune on the sole of the Wind-stepping Boots was far more complex than she had imagined. Its biggest difference from the runes she had mastered was that it couldn’t be drawn in a single, continuous stroke.
Even after memorizing the pattern, perfectly replicating it was still a difficult task for Seraphina Sinclair.
Every minute turn in the pattern and every change in the thickness of the lines seemed to hold a specific meaning. The slightest deviation would cause the entire rune to lose its effect.
Seraphina Sinclair tried dozens of times on the yellow Blank Talisman Paper, but she could barely even achieve a basic resemblance, let alone make it actually useful.
After those failures, she stopped trying to draw it altogether. Instead, she spent the whole night deconstructing, memorizing, and imitating it.
In the end, her Spirit was so drained that her temples were throbbing, but thankfully, she could finally replicate the rune on the boots perfectly.
It had been too late last night, and she was simply too exhausted. She hadn’t had a chance to test if her replicated rune actually worked on a Blank Talisman Paper before she fell fast asleep.
Now, after breakfast, Seraphina Sinclair leisurely took out a yellow Blank Talisman Paper, spread it flat on a clean stone table, and picked up the rune pen. But her hand froze in mid-air.
As is well known, making a rune requires three things: first, the rune’s design; second, the rune paper; and third...
...the runic ink to be applied to the rune paper.
Seraphina Sinclair fell silent. She had just realized a crucial problem.
When she was drawing the three basic runes she knew, the knowledge granted to her by the Stone Tablet was complete, including the simple methods for mixing the corresponding runic ink.
But she had learned of this Gale Rune from another source and had absolutely no information about the runic ink recipe.
’Should I try using the runic ink for the other runes?’
The Fire Drawing Rune was drawn with gasoline, the Blood Stopping Talisman used herbal juices, and the Corpse Suppression Rune used monster blood.
True, those ingredients were all directly related to their respective runes, but they had absolutely nothing to do with a Gale Rune.
Using them anyway would probably result in nothing more than a useless piece of paper.
Seraphina Sinclair propped her chin on her hand and sighed helplessly.
’I’ve already learned the rune, only to get stuck at this step. This is so frustrating.’
She sulked for a moment, then opened the trading channel with a glimmer of hope and scrolled through it aimlessly.
The trading channel had all sorts of things for sale. When Seraphina Sinclair had free time, she would occasionally browse it, just to see if there was anything useful.
This time, however, she had a clear goal and searched for information related to "Wind Attribute."
The search returned a lot of results. The information was a confusing jumble, and it was hard to tell truth from fiction.
A series of materials related to the Wind Attribute appeared, but most were rare and expensive: Wind Attribute Crystal Stone Fragments, Wind-Howler Beast tail feathers, Light Spirit Grass...
Seraphina Sinclair would be sorely disappointed if she spent a fortune on them, only to find out after trying that they were useless.
Just as Seraphina Sinclair was about to give up on this line of inquiry, a trade post caught her eye:
[One jar of Flowing Wind Fox Tail Gland secretions. This is a D-level material. Not for sale, only for trade: Healing-type items, or a good meal. Click here for details!]
Seraphina Sinclair clicked it, and the item description popped up:
[Flowing Wind Fox Tail Gland Secretions (D-level)]
[Description: Collected from the tail gland of a D-level monster, the Flowing Wind Fox. It has been simply purified, retaining its active Wind Attribute Energy. The smell is pungent.]
"Flowing Wind Fox Tail Gland secretions... A Wind Attribute material?"
Seraphina Sinclair’s spirits lifted.
The description was brief, but the phrase "retaining its active Wind Attribute Energy" was exactly what she was looking for.
Moreover, the other party wasn’t trading a D-level material for D-level equipment, but only wanted healing items or a good meal.
Healing items... Seraphina Sinclair had her homemade Blood Stopping Talismans and the Healing Potions she’d gotten from Pretty Guardian. She could trade either of those.
And food was even less of a problem; her meals were famously good.
