Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 245: Reconciliation
Chapter 245: Chapter 245: Reconciliation
[Unknown rune successfully created (Requires Naming)]
[Effect: Channels the pure power of Moonlight Condensed Dew to conjure a chilling, sharp barrier of moonlight. This barrier has an extremely powerful isolating and suppressive effect against intangible assaults like Spirit Erosion and Perception interference. The barrier itself is resilient and stable, capable of distorting and deflecting physical attacks while continuously soothing the protected target’s spiritual shock and soul-level turmoil. Lasts for up to 30 minutes if undamaged.]
[Evaluation: Radiant Moonlight, guarding the sanctum of the soul. This is a Soul-soothing Wall that condenses Lunar Radiance! You have created an outstanding Protective Talisman!]
A Defense Talisman!
This was the first time Seraphina Sinclair had ever created a Defense Talisman.
She blinked, staring at the new rune for a long moment. The more she looked at it, the more she liked it.
The Yellow Paper, of course, hadn’t changed, but because the materials included D-level Moonlight Condensed Dew, the lines drawn on it were a shimmering silver—utterly beautiful.
’But looks are useless in this godforsaken place.’ As much as Seraphina Sinclair liked it, she still had work to do.
She picked up the rune and thought for a moment before deciding to name it [Moonlight Heart Protection Talisman].
People always have a special place for the things they like, and Seraphina Sinclair was no exception.
This was her favorite rune so far, so naturally, its name was different from the others.
The grade quickly appeared. Unsurprisingly, it was D+!
Seraphina Sinclair looked satisfied and put the rune away carefully.
Just as she was about to draw a D-level Fire Drawing Rune, the waiter finally made its belated appearance.
She hadn’t called for it after eight this time, nor had she instructed it to prepare any food yesterday. For it to be this late...
’It had better have a good reason.’
The moment the waiter met the human’s gaze, it sensed her dissatisfaction.
It opened its mouth to offer an explanation, but then it saw the Stone floor and the inkstone on it, its contents mixed with D-level materials.
Its pupils suddenly dilated. It took a long moment for it to come back to its senses before it asked in a trembling voice, "How did it become like this?"
"What?" Seraphina Sinclair didn’t understand.
"Hasn’t it only been a day and a night since we last saw each other?" The waiter gestured with its hands, its face a textbook picture of excitement. "Your mobile cabin changed this much! Your rune making materials are D-level now, and you can create D-level Talismans!!"
Seraphina Sinclair was even more confused. ’What is this thing so excited about?’
The waiter was so excited it was practically dancing, the corners of its mouth pulled into an exaggerated arc. "Your progress is definitely the absolute peak for your Species! The fastest! My judgment was absolutely correct. If even you can’t do it, then there’s no hope for your entire Species!"
’What kind of talk is that?’
Seraphina Sinclair instantly realized something and retorted, "Do what?"
The waiter had been completely relaxed, looking utterly ecstatic. But the instant it heard her question, it jolted as if struck by lightning. Its body shuddered, and it seemed to deflate, as if it had been subjected to immense torture in that one moment.
Although Seraphina Sinclair had never experienced it herself, she could tell that this was a punishment.
As for the reason for the punishment...
The answer was self-evident.
It had spoken out of turn.
Seraphina Sinclair got up to support it, watching as the creature repaired itself bit by bit. It took a long while for it to recover.
But it wasn’t a full recovery. Its speech was like a short circuit, laced with a grating, static-like sound. "Please... please... enjoy your meal, guest..."
’It’s nagging me to eat again.’
’It seems I won’t get any answers by asking.’
Seraphina Sinclair was lost in thought. ’It seems these system-entities all have some kind of "restrictions".’
Just like how the Traveling Merchant said it couldn’t sell A-level weapons, these were red lines the system-entities could not cross.
The waiter had probably gotten too excited and accidentally crossed a red line, which was why it was punished.
Seraphina Sinclair didn’t say any more. Seeing that it was struggling to speak, she obediently rose and sat down at the dining table.
The waiter understood her kindness, revealing a standard smile as it urged her to eat.
Breakfast was a warm bowl of oatmeal with milk, served with perfectly toasted bread and a small dish of fresh berries. Seraphina Sinclair ate quietly, but she kept an eye on the waiter’s condition out of the corner of her eye.
It seemed to have fully recovered. Its movements were fluid, its expression standard. But that overly deliberate calmness betrayed the lingering fear from the earlier punishment.
Seraphina Sinclair didn’t try to ask again.
She quickly finished her breakfast, pushed the empty plate aside, watched the waiter clean up, and then saw it off as it left.
The meal wasn’t exactly pleasant. The negative effects were still present. If she hadn’t been worried about the waiter’s condition, Seraphina Sinclair definitely would have waited until she got the Immunity Crystal before eating.
She steadied herself on the table as she stood up. For the first time, she felt that the system-entities, just like humans, were struggling to survive in this harsh world.
Seraphina Sinclair glanced at the monster standing outside the window, took out some gasoline mixed with a bit of Moonlight Condensed Dew, dipped her rune pen in it, and prepared to draw a D-level Fire Drawing Rune.
There was no helping it. The Moonlight Heart Protection Talisman was a standard Defense Talisman. For offense, she still had to rely on the Fire Drawing Rune.
The tip of the pen descended onto the blank Yellow Paper. Seraphina Sinclair held her breath, her focus absolute.
The gasoline, mixed with the Moonlight Condensed Dew, seemed to have undergone some subtle change in its properties.
During the drawing process, she could feel a cool energy flowing through the pen’s tip. As she drew the symbols, there was a strange sense of opposition.
And yet, as if she instinctively knew how to handle it, Seraphina Sinclair carefully harmonized the two completely different energies. Her Spirit was highly concentrated, and fine beads of sweat even appeared on her temples.
The time it took to draw a single stroke seemed to stretch on for an eternity.
Just as Seraphina Sinclair felt she couldn’t hold on any longer, it was finally about to end.
The runic lines gradually took form.
As the final stroke was about to be drawn, the rune suddenly moved on its own, without any wind.
"CHSS!"
With a soft sound, the edges of the rune instantly curled and blackened. A small flame spread across the rune paper, and in a moment, it was burned to nothing.
Seraphina Sinclair stared blankly for a moment before realizing it had been a failure.
’How strange. This is the first time I’ve failed like this.’
Besides, her rune making Skill had been upgraded. The Description clearly stated that she could draw a small number of D-level Talismans, so this shouldn’t have happened.
Seraphina Sinclair lifted her hand, looking at the indentation on her fingers from gripping the rune pen too tightly, and recalled the unconscious act of harmonization from just now.
That feeling was too magical. It was only now that she was certain she had truly grasped some kind of supernatural power.
Seraphina Sinclair took a deep breath, glanced at the monster standing by the window, picked up the rune pen again, and made another attempt.
Perhaps because her grasp of the harmonization wasn’t deep enough, after failing several more times, she finally succeeded in drawing one!
Seraphina Sinclair held the hard-won rune and examined it carefully.
The lines on a normal Fire Drawing Rune were a pure, fiery red. But this one faintly glowed with a subdued, silvery-red luster, like cooling lava or the Embers of a fire not yet extinguished in the moonlit night.
