Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Training a Dog... Dragon

In Seraphina Sinclair’s opinion, the man was incredibly bold.

’Hadn’t Rex Shaw just made a statement?’

’To be this defiant right now... he clearly wasn’t afraid to die.’

’Blacktiger Ford might not say anything, but Rex Shaw would definitely take action.’

As she was thinking, she glanced at the announcement board. Sure enough, the top post was from Rex Shaw, issuing an Arena Challenge to that survivor.

For most survivors, this was the first time they’d seen a top player attack an ordinary survivor.

Only the players who were previously in the same Zone as Rex Shaw got excited, shouting things like, "Rex is at it again!"

"I told you! Anyone who defies Rex never comes to a good end!"

"Rex is so awesome! He doesn’t hesitate to strike!"

These bizarre comments nearly made the brains of survivors from other Zones short-circuit.

’So, not only was this not the first time the guy had attacked an ordinary survivor, but the other ordinary survivors didn’t even care? They were just treating it like a show?’

The whole thing was bizarre, no matter how you looked at it. Survivors from other Zones couldn’t help but flood the chat with question marks, though they didn’t say much more.

The people from Rex Shaw’s Zone were overly excited, like brainwashed cultists, maintaining a strange, fanatical devotion to him.

This matter was, in a way, related to Seraphina Sinclair, but the connection was tenuous. It would be strange if she were to interfere.

Seraphina Sinclair considered it for a moment, then went back to her business with Auric Young.

She had expected Rex Shaw to say something in the Zone channel after killing the guy, so she kept half an eye on it. Unfortunately, a long time passed without another word from him.

Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t quite figure it out. From her perspective, Rex Shaw’s actions served two purposes: first, to shut people up, and second, to flex his power.

’The first goal was accomplished with the Arena Challenge. But for the second, shouldn’t he have said a few words after the fight?’

Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t figure it out, and neither could the fanatical followers from Rex Shaw’s Zone.

"Where’s Rex? Isn’t the fight over?"

"Doesn’t Rex usually speak in the Zone channel after a fight? Why is he quiet this time?"

"It’s been over ten minutes since Rex said anything. I miss him."

...

Seraphina Sinclair wasn’t sure what was going on, but her motto was to deal with problems as they arose. She made a mental note of the situation and stopped dwelling on it.

At 8:00 p.m., Seraphina Sinclair finished her crafting orders for water filters and posted a new offer in the Zone channel: a crafting service for Black Fog Lamps.

The other survivors were just in the middle of calculating how many Black Fog Coins Blacktiger Ford had earned today. Just when they thought it was over, she pulled out a new blueprint for another crafting service. And of all things, it was for another essential item that was impossible to pass up.

"Water filters for our drinking problem, Black Fog Lamps to free up our hands! Does Master Blacktiger only have blueprints for these kinds of essential items?!"

"I can’t even imagine how many Black Fog Coins Master Blacktiger must have earned today. And I definitely can’t imagine how great my life would be if I could spend them all!"

"Coward. I dare to imagine it. Not only that, but I also dare to imagine Master Blacktiger suddenly falling in love with me and insisting we get together."

"Now you’re just being way too imaginative. I’m different. I just want some Black Fog Coins to buy runes from the Traveling Merchant."

"Master Blacktiger is a Rune Master. Why would he need to buy runes?"

"To use Rex’s words, other people are resource caches, but Master Blacktiger is a freaking gold vault!"

’A gold vault?’

Seraphina Sinclair found the term highly offensive.

Before she could say anything, Rex Shaw piped up again.

[Rex Shaw]: A gold vault? Interesting metaphor. But did I give you permission to use my words to talk about other people?

The Zone channel instantly went silent.

’What’s wrong with this guy now?’

’Or rather... was Rex Shaw... defending Blacktiger Ford? Or trying to curry favor with him?’

’Come to think of it, that Arena Challenge earlier... the guy didn’t just curse out Rex Shaw, he insulted Blacktiger Ford too. Could it be that Rex Shaw has been trying to suck up to Blacktiger Ford this whole time?’

Only Rex Shaw himself probably knew the answer to that.

After all, Blacktiger Ford herself was utterly baffled. She puzzled over the strange turn of events while continuing to deliver orders to her clients as quickly as possible.

She wanted to get to bed early. The paths were refreshing today, after all, and without an Immunity Crystal, getting a good night’s sleep would be difficult.

The human wasn’t tired yet, but Auric Young was.

It circled Seraphina Sinclair a few times, then went to circle Sunflower.

At first, it would just circle a couple of times before returning to work. But now, after circling Sunflower, it went to pester Lucky, circling him until he got annoyed. Finally, it just started doing laps inside the mobile cabin.

Its attitude was clear: under no circumstances was it going to work anymore.

Seraphina Sinclair: "..."

’Fine.’ After all, it had been working all day. Auric Young’s patience had already far exceeded her expectations.

Seraphina Sinclair completed a few deliveries on her own. Without Auric Young’s help, her pace slowed considerably. At this rate, she could forget about sleeping early; she might not even be done by morning.

She was silent for a moment, her gaze sweeping around the inside of the mobile cabin.

There weren’t many living creatures in the cabin. Auric Young was one, Sunflower was half of one, and Lucky was another.

’As for the best candidate for the job... that would be...’

Seraphina Sinclair set the interface panel on the floor, then scooped Lucky into her arms.

’Training a dog... no, a dragon. Humans may not have any experience training dragons, but they certainly have experience training dogs.’

Seraphina Sinclair recalled dog training tutorials she had seen before and started with the simplest command.

"Lucky, look at this."

She pointed at the [Confirm Delivery] button on the trading panel and gently took Lucky’s paw to press it.

[Transaction Complete!] a system notification chimed.

Lucky tilted his head, his red eyes full of confusion.

"Very good." Seraphina Sinclair took a small piece of fish from her Silver Moon Earrings and gave it to him. "This is your reward."

For the next few minutes, Seraphina Sinclair patiently repeated this action.

Surprisingly, Lucky’s learning ability far exceeded expectations.

Motivated by the pieces of fish, the young dragon quickly understood the connection between "pressing the button" and "getting food."

The first time Lucky took the initiative to bat the [Confirm Delivery] button with his paw, Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t resist ruffling the top of his head. "Clever boy."

Auric Young circled nearby, buzzing with what seemed to be clear dissatisfaction.

It had worked hard all day and gotten nothing, while this stinking dragon was getting a feast for so little effort!

It flew a few circles around the human and the dragon. When it found itself being ignored, it returned to Seraphina Sinclair’s wrist in a huff.

With Lucky’s help, the delivery speed picked up significantly.

Seraphina Sinclair just had to take the finished items from the workbench, and Lucky would dutifully press the confirm delivery button with his paw, then look up at her expectantly, waiting for his fishy reward.
