Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Giant Sunflower

Seraphina Sinclair scrambled to feed the mucus to the Sunflower, her eyes shining brightly.

[Current Sunflower Growth Rate 1000/1000]

[Evolution conditions have been met]

[The Sunflower is evolving...]

’It worked!’

’It finally worked!’

The Sunflower had already evolved once before, so Seraphina Sinclair wasn’t surprised when the light appeared this time.

Lucky, on the other hand, was seeing this for the first time and was extremely excited. It came closer and sniffed with its little nose. Once it determined there was no danger, it edged even closer.

It looked extremely curious.

Seraphina Sinclair found it amusing and didn’t stop it.

But in the next second, the light surrounding the Sunflower suddenly lashed out like an expanding, water-logged sponge. As it grew, it let out a SLAP and struck Lucky the Little Dragon across the face.

The light sent Lucky staggering. Its small, round body tipped backward, and it plopped onto the floor.

It covered its face with its two front paws and let out an aggrieved YELP YELP, the tip of its tail stiff with shock.

Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t help but laugh. Just as she was about to reach out and pick it up, her gaze was completely captured by the rapidly expanding light.

The once-gentle halo of light now surged violently as if boiling. It lashed out, stretched... The ball of light that had only enveloped a single Sunflower grew to be taller than a person in just a few breaths!

The light gradually receded and solidified, eventually outlining the shape of a massive Sunflower.

Seraphina Sinclair’s breath caught in her throat.

’If it keeps evolving like this, the cabin won’t be able to hold the Sunflower much longer! No wonder it calls me ’little human’ in its thoughts. By comparison, aren’t I just a little human?!’

Previously, Seraphina Sinclair had taken some comfort in the thought that, aside from humans, this world at least had sunflowers—a creature she recognized from her previous world.

But now, it seemed the Sunflower was probably just another native species of this godforsaken place.

Seraphina Sinclair sighed and raised a hand to rub her eyes, which had been staring at the intense light for a long time.

About ten minutes later, the light surrounding the Sunflower finally vanished.

The sight before her made Seraphina Sinclair’s hand freeze in mid-air.

Where the light had dissipated, the original Sunflower was gone. In its place stood a massive plant that nearly touched the ceiling.

Its stalk was thick and sturdy, and its dark green leaves unfurled to take up nearly half the space in the small wooden cabin.

Most shocking of all was its enormous flower head. Layers upon layers of brilliant golden petals radiated a warm halo, illuminating the entire room.

The flower head drooped slightly, as if scrutinizing Seraphina Sinclair below.

"..." Seraphina Sinclair stared up, momentarily speechless.

’It just evolved, its personality shouldn’t have changed, right?’

’My little Sunflower is still my little Sunflower, isn’t it?’

Seraphina Sinclair tried to comfort herself with this thought, but she couldn’t help feeling a little apprehensive.

The change was just too drastic. The eyes that had always seemed vacant and dopey now looked much more intelligent. Most importantly, its entire presence had changed.

It gave Seraphina Sinclair an involuntary sense of unfamiliarity.

Just as she was hesitating, unsure what emotion to show, the Sunflower’s huge, majestically drooping flower head suddenly slumped. It was as if all its strength had been instantly drained. The massive plant went limp and collapsed, its thick stalk bending and its huge leaves flopping listlessly onto the floor.

’Oh, that’s probably the same pose it used to have when it was curled up in the flowerpot.’

’But now it’s so big that it can only lie sprawled on the floor.’

Suddenly feeling that she had been very foolish just a moment ago, Seraphina Sinclair was speechless. "..."

’Alright then.’

’The Sunflower is definitely still the Sunflower.’

She adjusted her mood and was about to check the updated panel when she heard the Sunflower complaining in her mind: ’That stinky dragon she picked up gets to sleep on a blanket... and I have to lie on the floor... The little human doesn’t have me in her heart anymore... sob sob sob... I hate the little human...’

Seraphina Sinclair looked at the giant Sunflower sprawled out in a heap and listened to its pitiful inner monologue. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. That sense of unfamiliarity and distance caused by its sudden change in size was instantly washed away by its childish complaints.

She walked over and reached out to touch the thick stalk, which she would now need to wrap both arms around to encircle. It was still warm and smooth to the touch, brimming with a vitality unique to plants.

The huge leaves seemed to sense her approach. Their listless edges curled slightly and brushed against her ankle with a sort of cautious intimacy, as if making a silent accusation.

"Stop playing pitiful," Seraphina Sinclair said, her tone filled with an indulgence she herself didn’t notice. "I’ll go get you two blankets in a bit. One nest for you, and one for him. How about that?"

The Sunflower didn’t understand, and neither did Lucky.

And Seraphina Sinclair knew perfectly well that neither of them could understand her, but saying it out loud seemed to make a difference somehow.

As she spoke, she called up the Sunflower’s panel.

[Micro-light Sunflower (E-level)]

[Level: 3]

[Current Sunflower Growth Rate 0/5000]

’Five thousand for the next time?’

’That’s... acceptable, I guess.’

Seraphina Sinclair’s standards weren’t high; she was just happy it hadn’t added another zero.

[Hunger Level: 200/200 (Consumes one point of Hunger Level for every point of sunshine generated)]

’The Hunger Level didn’t increase?’

Seraphina Sinclair glanced in disbelief at the Sunflower’s current rank—E-level.

Before, it was F+.

’Does the Hunger Level only increase when its Level goes up within the same rank?’

Seraphina Sinclair had no clue, but she was sure she could figure out the pattern if she just kept leveling it up.

’Besides... ’ Her gaze fell on the Sunflower’s name. It was still called Micro-light Sunflower.

Seraphina Sinclair remembered that the first time she used Insight on it, it was just called "Sunflower."

’I don’t know if it’s not going to change anymore, or if, like the Hunger Level, it only changes when the Level increases.’

Seraphina Sinclair closed the panel, brought over the Black Fog Lamp, and let the Sunflower continue to bask in the light.

In any case, the Hunger Level couldn’t be wasted.

As for the blankets...

Although she didn’t quite understand the competitive spirit of these non-human creatures, Seraphina Sinclair still went and traded for two blankets.

After she made a bed for the Sunflower, it clearly became much happier.

Seeing its giant flower head contentedly nuzzle the soft, newly laid blanket, even its leaves unfurling in pleasure, Seraphina Sinclair’s feeling of helplessness melted into a smile.

She patted the Sunflower’s thick stalk and then infused another hundred points of sunshine into her door card.

’Can’t waste time, right?’

Not even twenty minutes had passed before the Sunflower’s complaints arrived: ’Little human, the sunshine... isn’t bright enough anymore.’

Seraphina Sinclair looked up at the Black Fog Lamps, which were steadily emitting light, then back at the giant Sunflower lounging on its blanket like a lord. The corner of her mouth twitched.

’This guy... after evolving, it’s not just its size and temper that have grown, its standards have gotten higher too?’

She sighed and resignedly began to rummage through her supplies, planning to either make two more Black Fog Lamps or... she had to find a way to upgrade them.
