Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 219: Launching Lucky
Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Launching Lucky
It was fine that it wouldn’t take the initiative.
’If the mountain won’t come to me, I’ll go to the mountain. Since Lucky won’t attack on its own, I’ll just have to launch it!’
Seraphina Sinclair tossed the Gloom Hatchling without a shred of guilt.
She aimed right for the Mimic Corpse’s position!
"AWOO—?!"
The moment it was thrown, Lucky let out a short, astonished cry, its four little paws flailing reflexively in the air.
But it was a high-tier creature, after all. Barely a second after leaving Seraphina Sinclair’s hand, the combat instinct in its bloodline overrode its momentary confusion.
Its tiny body gave a bizarre twist in mid-air. Its once-soft white fur stood on end, and its red eyes locked onto the Mimic Corpse below.
Only because its fur stood on end did Seraphina Sinclair finally see the two neat rows of blood-red eyes on its belly.
Seraphina Sinclair’s pupils widened for an instant before she quickly regained her composure.
She comforted herself, almost numbly.
’In this godforsaken place, this world teeming with black fog and monsters, how could a truly cute creature possibly exist?’
’Lucky’s tier and Strength were extraordinary to begin with.’
’Besides, those eyes were usually hidden beneath its fluffy belly fur. If it hadn’t puffed up like that, I probably never would have noticed.’
’This concealment... maybe it was a kind of gentle disguise?’
Her thoughts raced, and in the air, Lucky had already crashed into the Mimic Corpse!
"SQUISH!"
A wet impact sounded. The monster seemed frozen by the aura Lucky had released.
But Lucky wasn’t in much better shape. It was just a hatchling; the number of hours since its birth hadn’t even hit triple digits. Releasing its aura on instinct alone was its limit. Plus, its claws hadn’t grown in yet, so it had virtually no combat ability.
Carried by the inertia from Seraphina Sinclair’s throw, Lucky crashed into the Mimic Corpse and then, like an apple in freefall, slammed heavily onto the floor.
The thud of its landing was accompanied by Lucky’s painful "AWOO AWOO" cries.
But Seraphina Sinclair felt not a shred of pity. ’Only the strong are worthy of being my pet!’
The thought vanished in an instant. Her hand was already gripping her long knife as she seized the moment the Mimic Corpse was stunned by Lucky’s aura and charged!
The blade flashed like a silver streak, aimed straight for where a human heart would be!
She had no choice. The monster’s weakness was listed as ’None,’ so besides probing for one, Seraphina Sinclair had no other options.
But she didn’t feel the expected sensation of her blade sinking into flesh.
The moment her blade touched it, the Mimic Corpse’s seemingly shriveled torso rippled like water. It had become slick and resilient; her long knife felt like it was stabbing into layers of wet, slippery leather, unable to pierce through.
’It’s a D-level monster, after all. Of course it wouldn’t be that simple!’
The strike ineffective, Seraphina Sinclair immediately withdrew.
The Mimic Corpse let out the roar of a Rotting Corpse, mixed with a strange, sloshing, squirming sound. It was so disgusting it made the hairs on Seraphina Sinclair’s arms stand on end.
It stopped maintaining the form of a Rotting Corpse, its body collapsing onto the floor like a melting wax figure. Just as Seraphina was lamenting her now-filthy floor, it began to twist and deform. Its skin ruptured, revealing a constantly writhing mass of pink organs attempting to re-form underneath.
’So this is the monster’s true form?’
’I can’t see any eyes or ears. Maybe, just like the Description said, it really doesn’t have a clear weakness.’
’But if it’s a living thing, it has to have some way of perceiving the world, right?’
’What does it use to do that?’
Even as she thought, Seraphina Sinclair’s hands didn’t stop moving.
Almost by reflex, she ripped two Fire Drawing Runes and threw them. But the flames, as if doused by water, were extinguished the instant they got near the Mimic Corpse.
The two firework-like flashes of flame seemed to have angered it. Several tentacles of condensed flesh and blood shot out from its body and, as if returning the favor, lashed toward Seraphina Sinclair with a foul, gusting wind!
Seraphina Sinclair lacked the Mimic Corpse’s absurd defensive ability, and her Speed was only on par with it. The best way to dodge... was, naturally, to retreat to the bathroom.
’If you can’t win, you run. There’s no shame in it.’
’Not knowing to run when you can’t win isn’t just shameful—one careless slip and you lose your life.’
After a moment’s rest, Seraphina Sinclair re-entered the mobile cabin.
The instant her feet were planted firmly on the floor, the writhing pink mass of flesh whipped toward her! Like sharks scenting blood, several fleshy tentacles tore through the air, lashing viciously at her with a nauseating stench!
It was incredibly fast!
Seraphina Sinclair’s pupils constricted. Her body reacted faster than her mind, and she threw herself into a clumsy sideways roll, narrowly avoiding the attack.
The tentacles grazed her back and slammed onto the wooden floor with a dull THUD, leaving behind several viscous, wet streaks.
’I can’t fight it head-on!’
Seraphina’s mind raced as her eyes swept across the living room.
Lucky was still on the floor near the monster. It seemed the fall had been rough; it was only now shakily trying to stand up.
Seraphina’s gaze met Lucky’s red, pain-filled, watery eyes for an instant, and an idea sparked. ’The little guy has no combat power, but that burst of aura earlier really did stun the Mimic Corpse for a moment...’
’I can definitely use that!’
"Lucky!" she called out, pointing again at the writhing mass of flesh. "Distract it!"
Once again, Lucky didn’t understand her human words.
But Lucky was an extremely intelligent creature!
It understood one thing: its master, its kin, was struggling against this ugly thing before it.
Gloomdrakes had no tradition of letting their kin fight alone—even if the price of reaching adulthood was to devour that very same kin.
Lucky forced itself to its feet, its four little legs still trembling, but it suddenly threw its head back and let out a threatening roar at the Mimic Corpse, a sound completely at odds with its tiny size!
All the blood-red eyes on its belly snapped open, locking onto the target as an invisible pressure radiated out once more.
Just as she’d hoped, the Mimic Corpse’s movements froze for a split second, and its flailing tentacles slowed for a fraction of a moment.
’Now!’
A sharp glint flashed in Seraphina Sinclair’s eyes. Without a moment’s hesitation, she ripped two more Fire Drawing Runes.
This time, however, she didn’t throw them at the monster itself. Instead, with a flick of her wrist, she sent them flying toward the empty patch of floor between the monster and Lucky!
"BOOM!"
Flames erupted, instantly creating a short-lived wall of fire between the monster and Lucky.
The flames couldn’t harm the Mimic Corpse, but the sudden burst of light and heat clearly disrupted whatever form of Perception it relied on.
Its tentacles flailed wildly in the air, their movements frenzied and chaotic.
It was like a normal person suddenly being blindfolded and having their ears plugged.
’I couldn’t beat it at its peak. But now that it’s deaf and blind, what chance does it have?’
She kicked off the floor—not to retreat, but to charge forward once more!
This time, her target wasn’t the monster’s main body, but the base of its flailing tentacles!
