Chapter 209: Chapter 209: Enjoying an Immoral Life

Victor Warner’s eyes widened, and he instinctively retorted, "How is that possible? Sure, she’s a master, but there are two of us. No matter how confident she is, when it’s time for the Clear Kill vote, she has to worry about us voting for her, right?"

"Her own strength is formidable, but this damn place is a numbers game!" Victor Warner sounded less confident now, lowering his voice to a whisper. "As long as we stick together, there’s nothing she can do to us."

Seraphina Sinclair threw a ball of fire, then couldn’t help but purse her lips and clean out her ear. ’If they whispered any softer,’ she thought, ’I might not have been able to hear them.’

She had provided the runes. She had killed most of the monsters. She had even found the majority of the clues.

’And after all that, these two are still plotting to team up? Still thinking about the vote?’

Seraphina Sinclair decided it was time to cast aside her morals and enjoy a more unscrupulous life.

She raised an eyebrow. "I’d say it’s about time you two showed some real skill, wouldn’t you? Did you think I couldn’t see through your little schemes?"

The corner of Seraphina Sinclair’s mouth curled into a cold sneer as she mercilessly tore apart their tacit understanding. "We’re all supposed to be defending this place together. If a monster reaches the second floor, we’re all dead. And since I’m so strong, as long as I complete the instance’s objectives, you two get to collect the rewards as well. It’s practically..."

She watched their expressions. "...a pie falling from the sky."

"Huh? Haha... Master Blacktiger... what do you mean by that?" Victor Warner raised a hand to scratch his head, a clueless look on his face, as if he didn’t understand a word she’d said. The words "playing dumb" were practically written on his face.

Selene Lawson just pursed her lips, saying nothing.

Seraphina Sinclair couldn’t be bothered to play nice anymore and dropped all pretense. "What do I mean? I mean, don’t take me for a fool. You hide in the back when there’s work to be done but are first in line when it’s time to split the rewards."

She gripped her longsword. A stray beam of light glinted off the pitch-black weapon, and its silver Blade reflected onto her face, making her eyes look sharp and cold. "Either you start showing your true abilities and we get through this together. Or..."

Seraphina Sinclair didn’t finish, but the threat was unmistakable.

Selene Lawson’s expression shifted several times. Finally, she gritted her teeth, pulled an ancient-looking Copper Coin from her clothes, and said quickly, "This is a one-time-use item I got from the last instance. It can reveal the location of the ’True Knowledge Stone Plate’. But I don’t know what the ’True Knowledge Stone Plate’ is, or if it’s even useful to us right now, so I didn’t take it out."

"Hah," Seraphina Sinclair sneered but said nothing more.

’Saying she didn’t know if it was useful? Just trying to save face, wasn’t she?’

Seraphina Sinclair knew it, and so did Victor Warner. But since Selene Lawson had produced an item, he couldn’t keep playing dead.

Victor Warner awkwardly reached for his waist and pulled out a small cloth pouch. "I-I have a one-time-use item, a ’thorn seed’. When thrown, it grows into thorny vines very quickly. It should be able to tie up those things for a while... but the range isn’t very large."

Seeing this, Seraphina Sinclair crossed her arms, took a step back, and said with a smile, "Since you both were hiding items, you must have been hiding your true strength as well, right? I’ll leave this wave of monsters to you. And remember, if even one monster gets inside this room, I’ll deal with you two before I deal with it."

As soon as she said this, both of their faces turned incredibly ugly.

But Seraphina Sinclair didn’t care. She casually flicked some dust off her clothes, her confidence unshaken. "And don’t even think about using the Clear Kill vote. Votes are cast one at a time. Take a guess: after my Sunflower takes one of you out with a Clear Kill, do you think the other one will still be standing?"

If Victor Warner and Selene Lawson had any thoughts of resistance before, they were completely gone now.

They had already witnessed Seraphina Sinclair’s power. Forget the mysterious runes; her personal combat prowess alone was far beyond theirs.

For Victor Warner and Selene Lawson, their only chance to counter her was the vote!

But now, Seraphina Sinclair had blocked that path too. To survive, it seemed the only way was...

"Hey, haha! Master Blacktiger, now why would you say something like that! We’re all teammates, on the same side!" Victor Warner slapped his chest, trying to smooth things over with a laugh. "No need to make things so ugly! We were wrong! We’ve truly realized the error of our ways!"

He scratched his bald head and looked at Selene Lawson. "We’ll definitely give it our all! You can count on it!"

As he spoke, Victor Warner was the first to charge toward the door. He let out a roar and was about to say more when he heard Seraphina Sinclair’s cold voice.

"Remember what I said. If a single monster appears in this room..." She chuckled softly, her tone matter-of-fact. "You know the consequences."

Victor Warner’s movements froze. His expression finally turned serious. The dagger in his hand suddenly began to glow faintly, and every slash whistled through the air as he actually managed to hold a probing vine at bay outside the door.

Selene Lawson also stopped holding back. She took a deep breath, pulled a card from her pocket and tore it to shreds, and a bizarrely shaped longsword instantly appeared in her hand.

She glanced back at Seraphina Sinclair before tucking a shortsword into her belt and gripping the new longsword with both hands to charge forward.

Seraphina Sinclair leaned against the wall with her arms crossed, watching with a cold gaze.

’Well, well.’

’They were still holding back just now. And their methods... truly interesting.’

Seraphina Sinclair sneered inwardly, but her expression remained impassive.

The faint glow on Victor Warner’s dagger emanated a scorching heat; it was clearly no ordinary item, and he hadn’t shown anything like it when fighting the regular monsters before.

The bizarre longsword in Selene Lawson’s hand was wreathed in an ominous black aura. When she swung it, one could faintly hear shrill screams. It was definitely not from any orthodox source.

’Still, it’s a good thing they’re finally pulling their weight.’

With the two of them no longer holding back and Seraphina Sinclair occasionally tossing out a rune to plug the gaps, the fourth wave of monsters, though ferocious, was held firmly outside the outpost.

But the massive silhouette lurking in the center of the inky black fog remained motionless the entire time. Its countless eyes, however, continued to stare coldly at the outpost, exerting an all-pervasive Spirit pressure.

After Victor Warner fiercely hacked apart the last vine and it writhed back into the dense fog, the suffocating pressure from outside the window receded like a tide.

[The fourth wave of attacks has ended.]

The system’s prompt sounded, and the two of them let out a sigh of relief.

Victor Warner collapsed onto the floor, panting heavily. Sweat poured down him like rain, and the hand gripping his dagger was still trembling slightly.

Selene Lawson wasn’t in much better shape. The black longsword in her hand had vanished, and she leaned against the wall, pale-faced. The exertion had clearly taken a huge toll on her.

’It’s really over.’

’And now, it’s time for a reckoning.’
