Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 197: Hunting for a Human?
Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Hunting for a Human?
After a long moment, a low rumble echoed from the Dragonbeast’s throat. Its massive body slowly retreated, disappearing completely into the thick black mist.
’It must be really gone this time.’
Seraphina Sinclair let out a long sigh of relief, feeling more exhausted than if she had just been in a fight.
She averted her gaze and dragged the prey back into her mobile cabin, one carcass at a time.
The moment she closed the door, Seraphina Sinclair regretted it.
’The stench of blood is too strong. I should have butchered them outside before dragging them in.’
’But they’re already inside, so it’ll have to do.’
Seraphina Sinclair stared at the carcasses for a moment, then took out the Golden Card the waiter had given her and snapped it in half.
The instant the card broke, a soft golden light flashed.
The waiter, dressed in a crisp formal suit, materialized as if coalescing from thin air and bowed elegantly.
"Is something the matter, my esteemed guest?" His gaze swept over the bloody prey inside the cabin and the curiously peering Lucky at the side. The smile on his face suddenly froze. "It... It... What is it doing here?!"
The waiter was so tongue-tied he couldn’t speak properly, and his eyes bulged right out of their sockets.
Anyone else witnessing such a horrific sight would have probably screamed, but Seraphina Sinclair was already used to it. She simply asked nonchalantly, "You know this thing?"
The waiter’s face was ashen, a look of pure doom written all over it.
"How can this thing be here? Were you the first thing it saw after it hatched?"
"Does it make a difference?"
"When it comes of age, it will kill its own kin! Do you realize that?"
Seraphina Sinclair paused, then said, "Besides me, the only other living thing in this room is Sunflower. It makes no difference which of us it saw first. Without Sunflower, I can’t survive anyway."
The waiter, however, looked like he was about to die from grief. He looked at Seraphina Sinclair with teary eyes and said:
"But you’re going to die. From the day it hatched, it will take one year for it to mature. One year! Our agreement will be over before it even begins..."
Seraphina Sinclair finally understood what he was so upset about.
’And also...’ Seraphina Sinclair turned to look at Lucky. ’My guess was wrong.’
It only takes one year for Lucky to mature.
That number sounded short at first, but thinking back, it had been less than three weeks since she’d entered this world.
Seraphina Sinclair had already grown from a total noob with single-digit attribute points into a powerhouse with all her Attributes in the twenties!
’Besides, this is still the early game, when resources are relatively scarce.’
’Now that I have a Meditation Method, and once I build the training room, won’t my attribute points just skyrocket?’
"I just need you to answer one question," Seraphina Sinclair said, her expression serious. "What rank of monster is it?"
"Rank?" The waiter paused, then had a realization. "Right, you probably can’t see its information yet. After all... it’s one of the most powerful monsters in The Black Mist World."
The waiter put on that on-the-verge-of-tears expression again. Seraphina Sinclair was beginning to wonder if he was even capable of crying, with all this thunder but no rain.
"A Gloomdrake that has been an adult for a long time can reach the terrifying SSS-level! Even a Gloomdrake that hasn’t completed its coming-of-age rite is A-level. They have a curse in their very bones that drives them to devour their kin, after which they evolve to become S-Class! That’s a terrifying S-Class monster!"
"So you’re saying it’s A-level before it devours me?"
’So that’s how it is...’
Seraphina Sinclair suddenly understood why The Eclipse Dragon had left its cub for someone else to raise. She’d previously thought it was worried about being killed by its own offspring, but now that she heard about the ranks, she realized that couldn’t be the case. ’How could a cub possibly kill its parent?’
’The parent was just worried about the cub’s growth, so it entrusted it to another creature to raise.’
Seraphina Sinclair should have been shocked, and she should have been disgusted, but she had already experienced those emotions intensely, so now she couldn’t muster any particular feeling.
To put it more clearly, her current mentality was ’Things can’t possibly get any worse, so I might as well just muddle through.’
’Anyway, the "suspended death sentence" has already been passed. The Dragon Whelp is already hers, and it’s an A-level monster. When it grows up a bit, it will be a decent combatant.’
’Plus, with the food deliveries from the Dragon Mom or Dragon Dad outside...’
’Mm, at least until Lucky comes of age, life is suddenly looking up.’
The waiter looked at Seraphina Sinclair’s calm, impassive face and felt like he’d punched a bale of cotton. He cried out in anguish, "A-level! My partner! That’s A-level! It means it has the power to tear this cabin and us to shreds right now! And it’s destined to..."
"Kill me, I know."
Seraphina Sinclair cut him off, pointing to the prey on the floor. "But that’s all for later. We need to solve the problem at hand first. I called you here to deal with these things."
The waiter was struck speechless by her overly pragmatic attitude. With a complicated expression, he glanced at the prey on the floor, then at Lucky, who was trying to nuzzle Seraphina Sinclair’s palm while letting out a faint purr.
This future killing machine seemed exceptionally docile at the moment.
"Sigh..." He let out a long sigh and adjusted his bow tie with an air of resignation. "Deal with them. I will help you deal with these..."
His gaze shifted to the prey, then suddenly froze. His eyes widened as if he were just seeing them for the first time. "You... Where did you get these?! Where did you get these?!"
The waiter’s voice shot up several octaves. He pointed at the three bloody monster carcasses on the floor, his finger trembling uncontrollably. "A Stoneplate Lizard?! A Rotwing Vulture?! And a Tusken Boar!! These... These are all formidable predators from the depths of the Black Mist! They’re also extremely rare ingredients! You... How could you possibly have caught them now? Even if I have high hopes for you and believe you could do it in the future, it’s definitely not now—"
His words came to an abrupt halt, as if someone had suddenly grabbed him by the throat. Those already bulging eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their sockets as he stared intently at something behind Seraphina Sinclair.
Seraphina Sinclair followed his gaze and turned around to see that Lucky had, at some point, moved next to the Stoneplate Lizard’s corpse, seemingly wanting to take a bite.
Seraphina Sinclair immediately picked it up and held it in her arms.
Lucky was well-behaved, snuggling against her a couple of times before settling down, its red eyes darting around to stare at the waiter.
"Was... was it?" The waiter’s voice was as raspy as sandpaper. "The one outside... The Eclipse Dragon?"
Seraphina Sinclair turned back, looked at him calmly, and nodded. "Oh? You saw it too? It dropped all these. I guess it figured I can’t let its whelp starve."
The color instantly drained from the waiter’s face, replaced by a ghastly white that was a mixture of extreme fear and disbelief. He staggered back a step, bumping into the cold wall with a dull thud.
After a long while, he finally managed to mutter, "It... It actually..."
"A Gloomdrake... a fully-grown Gloomdrake... would actually hunt... for a human? And bring... gifts?"
’Hunting for a human?’
Seraphina Sinclair was a little confused. "Isn’t this food for Lucky?"
