Chapter 181: Chapter 181: ???

Monsters were converging from all directions, surrounding the small pharmacy until it was completely sealed off!

The F-level nurse monster she had just slain was probably just a lone sentry roaming the perimeter. Her intrusion and the brief commotion from the fight had been like dropping a boulder into a silent pond, disturbing the true residents lurking in the hospital’s depths.

Seraphina Sinclair lowered her head, her brow furrowed tightly!

’What should I do now?’

Charging out to fight these monsters to the death was definitely not a good idea, but...

Seraphina Sinclair scanned her surroundings. Thanks to the lantern, the environment wasn’t too dark, allowing her to see every detail of the room’s furnishings. This only made her realize more clearly that, aside from the door behind her, this godforsaken place had no other exit.

Seraphina Sinclair was speechless.

’I’ve been had.’

’This was clearly a trap.’

Or perhaps this was the mechanism the building was designed with from the start: once a survivor claimed their reward, they would awaken these monsters.

Although there were many of them, they were all F-level monsters.

There was no reason for the system to design an escape route for survivors that didn’t involve a fight.

It was almost laughable, getting herself into such a predicament for two Healing Potions.

The corner of Seraphina Sinclair’s mouth twitched, but her eyes were firm as she gripped her long blade.

’It’s come to this. Time to fight!’

"Come on!"

With a low shout, she threw the door open and faced the surging tide of monsters.

Her long blade sliced through the gloom, whistling sharply through the air.

The head of an F-level monster in a patient’s gown at the very front was cleanly severed. Foul-smelling black fluid splattered onto the wall as its body crashed to the floor.

But Seraphina Sinclair didn’t stop. Her Blade spun around, precisely lopping off the head of another nurse monster!

Her movements were simple and efficient. Every swing of her blade aimed for a vital point, with no wasted or flashy motions.

Seraphina Sinclair didn’t have many other strengths, but she could endure hardship and loved to learn!

After every battle, she would review her own bladework and consciously cultivate her combat awareness.

She was no longer the naive rookie who knew nothing and could only rely on sheer ferocity to survive.

The Seraphina Sinclair of today was a valiant warrior forged in the crucible of battle!

The narrow doorway became a temporary strategic advantage, limiting the number of monsters that could pour in at once and allowing her to barely hold her ground.

Although the pair of huge, blood-red eyes had vanished, the sheer number of monsters was overwhelming. The pressure they exerted was not to be underestimated. They knew no fear, surging forward one after another, pressing their bodies against the doorframe and creating a grating sound of bone scraping against bone that set one’s teeth on edge.

Seraphina Sinclair was like a small boat in a raging storm, her swinging long blade forming a barrier.

Severed limbs flew through the air, and the putrid blood nearly soaked half her body.

As she swung her blade, she threw out runes as if they were free. F-level or E-level, it didn’t matter. Seraphina Sinclair just wanted to carve out a path to survival!

Fire Drawing Runes could only set the monsters ablaze, but the Purifying Flame Runes and Heavenly Light Runes were like small bombs, killing several monsters at once.

This short burst cleared a small open area, and the other monsters deliberately avoided the zone where the runes had taken effect.

Perhaps the runes’ effect was too powerful, intimidating the monsters and making them afraid to approach the affected area. It was like how soldiers on a battlefield wouldn’t dare get close to a crater, since no one knew if another shell would land in the same spot.

Seraphina Sinclair’s expression sharpened. She instantly realized this was the escape route she was looking for!

She had nine E-level runes left, but that would be enough!

She changed her strategy in a heartbeat. No longer would she toss out runes blindly. Instead, she targeted the points where the monsters were most concentrated and their charge was most ferocious, and flicked her wrist repeatedly!

FWOOSH! FWOOSH! FWOOSH!

The flames summoned by the three runes shot out in a triangular formation, landing precisely at the feet of the monster hordes in front and to her left and right.

BOOM!

A blinding white light erupted again, accompanied by a searing heatwave. The sacred flames, like a blooming white lotus, instantly engulfed and purified a dozen monsters!

When the light faded, the surrounding monsters showed clear hesitation and avoidance, instinctively skirting around those spots as if a terrifying aura lingered there.

A twisted but very real path of suddenly reduced pressure faintly emerged within the monster tide!

’Now’s my chance!’

’Go!’

Without a moment’s hesitation, Seraphina Sinclair shot forward like an arrow loosed from its string, charging down the safe corridor she had forcibly carved out with the runes!

She pushed her Speed to its limit, weaving through the narrow gaps. Her long blade would strike like a viper, picking off any stragglers that tried to get close, then sweep wide to parry claws swiping from the sides.

But this was a sea of monsters she was crossing; how could she possibly get through unscathed?

Seraphina Sinclair had a scratch on her waist and another on her shoulder. The combat suit she had just gotten yesterday was already torn to shreds today.

Seraphina Sinclair didn’t say anything, but her heart ached.

’I really need clothes that can repair themselves!’

The lantern at her waist flickered wildly, warning of threats from all directions, but it also illuminated every step of her path forward.

As she took the final step, just an instant before she could leave the building, that pair of enormous, blood-red eyes appeared before Seraphina Sinclair once again!

She froze, instinctively bringing her blade up in a defensive stance.

Seraphina Sinclair’s face grew grim. ’I’m done for. A wolf at the front, tigers at the back.’

As the eyes appeared, its massive silhouette began to loom in and out of the darkness.

It was a colossal figure that nearly reached the corridor ceiling. But it wasn’t some twisted monstrosity; it had the standard form of a Western Dragonbeast! What differed from the traditional image, however, was the thick, soft, wool-like fur covering its body, which lent the monster a strangely cute appearance.

Seraphina Sinclair took a step back and instinctively used Insight.

Seraphina Sinclair: "..."

’Why not just say it can’t be used?!’

Just as Seraphina Sinclair’s heart sank and she thought she was trapped in a hopeless situation, the pair of giant, blood-red eyes did not immediately attack.

It simply hovered in the darkness at the building’s exit, like two ominous lanterns, watching her quietly.

Behind her, the roars and footsteps of the monster tide were just a stone’s throw away.

The giant eyes shifted slightly, their vertical pupils focusing. Their gaze seemed to pass over Seraphina Sinclair and land on the surging horde of monsters behind her.

A silent yet immense pressure spread out like a tide.

Instantly, the hair-raising shrieks and scraping sounds behind Seraphina Sinclair came to an abrupt halt, as if they had been choked off!

She could even feel the cold claws that had been about to touch her back freeze in mid-air.

’What does this mean?’

’Doesn’t this thing want to be disturbed by other monsters before it enjoys its meal—me?’

The lantern suddenly went out. Ten minutes were up.

Seraphina Sinclair was plunged into darkness. Her heart tightened. The loss of sight made her other senses instantly sharpen.
