Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 147: Special Effect
Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Special Effect
Oh?
Seraphina Sinclair’s interest was piqued.
The waiter had likely said that because of its most direct reason for being here: to satisfy the customer!
Seraphina Sinclair suddenly realized its bottom line must be incredibly low—or perhaps it didn’t have one at all.
To achieve its goal of "satisfying the customer," it would do many things at the customer’s request.
In that case...
Seraphina Sinclair started pushing her luck. "Can’t you do two?"
Though it was a question, her tone sounded more like a demand.
Seraphina Sinclair herself felt it wasn’t great. ’Isn’t this basically a form of begging?’
’And if I’m going to beg, who begs so brazenly?’
Just as Seraphina Sinclair was about to be a bit more polite and properly negotiate with this inhuman waiter, she heard a simple "Alright."
Huh?
Seraphina Sinclair raised a delicate eyebrow. The first thought that popped into her head was: ’I asked for too little.’
The waiter leaned forward slightly, the curve of its lips unchanged by even a millimeter. Not so much as an eyelash trembled, yet inside, it sketched a line-drawing of a smile.
It had long heard from its system seniors that some humans would deliberately make things difficult for the system.
’This line of work isn’t so easy.’
But encountering a human who wasn’t overly demanding seemed pretty good, right?
The waiter had no way of comparing whether this was good or not. Right in front of Seraphina Sinclair, it pulled a bamboo cutting board and two cleavers from its jacket pocket. It arranged these items on the stone table before looking at her politely. "Please hand me the ingredients you wish to be processed." 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
As it pulled out the items, Seraphina Sinclair could clearly see a pitch-black void beneath its clothes.
’So it really is just an empty suit...’
’I just wonder what’s under that suit.’
While she was thinking, Seraphina Sinclair’s hands weren’t idle. Since it would process two, she decided on one Black Mist Catfish and one Blackmist Trout.
She could just ask it to process the remaining fish the next time she used a meal voucher.
’Once you make the first crack, the rest comes easy.’
With that thought, Seraphina Sinclair handed over the two fresh fillets.
The waiter received the fish with both hands, its movements as gentle as catching morning dew falling from a leaf.
It placed the two fillets, both shimmering with black mist, side by side on the bamboo cutting board with a faint CLACK.
Then, it picked up the two gleaming cleavers, one in each hand.
There were no questions about how she wanted it prepared, no warning whatsoever.
The twin blades fell in a sudden blur! The movements were so fast they left afterimages. The sound of the blades striking the cutting board was a rapid and crisp THWACK-THWACK-THWACK-THWACK, a continuous rhythm that sounded less like butchering and more like the performance of a frenzied, precise symphony.
In the flashing blur of steel, the black scales, silvery skin, and tender pink flesh were precisely separated and sorted, without a single mistake.
Seraphina Sinclair hadn’t even seen what it had done; all she saw was a flash of light.
The next second, the waiter had already sheathed its knives. The two cleavers were placed silently to the side, their blades as clean as new, unstained by even a speck of blood.
On the cutting board, the two fish had been completely transformed. The flesh was sliced into sashimi as thin as a cicada’s wing, nearly transparent. The pieces were arranged neatly on one side of the board, their texture distinct, their edges gently curled.
The bones had been removed whole and cleaned, arranged in their original fish-like shape as if they were a work of art.
Even the fish heads had been meticulously handled; the eyes were crystal clear, without the slightest sign of damage.
The waiter bowed slightly again, presenting a shell laden with the perfect sashimi to Seraphina Sinclair with both hands.
"Your ingredients have been processed." Its voice remained steady and calm. "Is there anything else I can assist you with?"
’Assist... Assist?’
’Actually, yes!’
Seraphina Sinclair snapped back to reality and asked seriously, "Why are you here sometimes, but not others?"
The waiter lowered its head slightly. "My appearance is for the purpose of better serving the customer. I only appear with the meal when the customer requires service."
At this point, it seemed to suddenly understand the meaning behind Seraphina Sinclair’s question. A flash of genuine regret crossed its cold face, but it still said, "From now on, I will appear for your breakfast."
’Good.’
Seraphina Sinclair was satisfied.
’This way, getting two fish processed every day is guaranteed!’
It’s just that...
Seraphina Sinclair’s gaze fell on the sashimi on the cutting board. She furrowed her brow almost imperceptibly. ’This stuff is fine once in a while, but who could stand eating it every day?’
"Are there other ways to prepare this type of fish?"
"Yes, but I came in a hurry today and only brought these basic tools with me. The only thing I can prepare is sashimi."
The waiter maintained its slight bow, its voice unchanged. "Pan-frying, deep-frying, stewing, boiling, grilling, baking, smoking, curing... Theoretically, any cooking method that has ever existed in human history is applicable to this ingredient."
’Good.’
This time, Seraphina Sinclair was truly satisfied. She waved her hand, indicating that it could leave.
Feeling grateful for the help, Seraphina Sinclair watched the waiter depart with a sense of genuine appreciation.
After everything brought by the meal voucher had vanished, Seraphina Sinclair finally stood up, directing her Insight toward the sashimi the waiter had packed into a disposable container.
[Perfectly Prepared Sashimi]
[Description: Sashimi of Black Mist Catfish and Blackmist Trout, instantly prepared by the waiter using a special technique! Each slice is as thin as a cicada’s wing and perfectly uniform in thickness, preserving the fish’s ultimate freshness, sweetness, and tender texture, as well as the unique energy it contains. The knife work is masterful, having precisely avoided all fine bones and membranes that would affect the mouthfeel. Consumption is recommended as soon as possible for the best flavor.]
[Special Effect: Greatly increases the accumulation for the Constitution attribute!]
’Is the Description trying to praise the waiter’s cooking to the high heavens?’
Seraphina Sinclair grumbled internally, her gaze falling on the special effect.
’Greatly increases? Accumulation?’
Seraphina Sinclair studied the sentence carefully. Its meaning was definitely not a direct increase to her Constitution attribute; the system wouldn’t be so roundabout just to set a trap here.
’In that case, there’s only one possibility...’
The system for Attributes must be based on experience. Once enough experience is accumulated, an attribute increases by one point.
And this sashimi was like an "EXP Potion" from a game—eating it would grant a large chunk of experience.
Seraphina Sinclair guessed that the unprocessed E-level fish also had this effect, but because they weren’t processed, the experience they provided was surely much less than that of the sashimi.
All in all, it was still better than not processing them at all.
With that thought, Seraphina Sinclair used the disposable chopsticks left by the waiter to pick up a slice of fish.
The moment the fish entered her mouth, Seraphina Sinclair froze for an instant.
The fishy taste she had expected was completely absent. In its place was an ultimate, pure sweetness and coolness, as if she had taken a sip of fresh water from a melting snow-capped mountain.
The fillet required almost no chewing. It melted in her mouth with just a gentle press of her tongue, leaving behind an indescribably fresh, tender, and springy texture. A gentle but undeniable warmth spread rapidly from her stomach to her limbs.
