Survive in the Black Mist: My Sunflower Can Navigate
Chapter 101: The Detestable Sunflower
Chapter 101: Chapter 101: The Detestable Sunflower
Seraphina Sinclair gave it another try, but when she found she still couldn’t make two in one day, she decisively gave up.
She put away the materials infused with Moonlight Powder, tucking them into her Silver Moon Earrings.
Seraphina Sinclair went back to drawing F-level runes.
The day was rather dull, but if thrills and excitement meant dealing with those monsters, Seraphina Sinclair preferred it this way.
...
"We’re here."
The Sunflower, which had been silent for a long time, spoke again, uttering a single, baffling sentence.
At that moment, Seraphina Sinclair had just finished her move. She had used the cover of the mist to launch hit-and-run attacks, a slash here and a slash there, until she finally wore down an E-level monster.
The black mist had just receded when Seraphina Sinclair heard the Sunflower’s voice.
’Arrived where?’
Seraphina Sinclair blinked. She was used to this Sunflower’s aversion to thinking.
’It’s actually for the best. If this thing’s mind was always racing with random nonsense, I’d find it annoying.’
She sighed and, resigning herself to the task, pushed open the wooden door to search for clues.
But as soon as she pushed open the wooden door, the Sunflower "spoke" again.
It seemed to be watching Seraphina Sinclair’s every move. Seeing her look in the wrong place, its mental activity flared up: ’Not there! Good stuff... good stuff...’
Seraphina Sinclair’s hand froze on the door. ’If not outside, then where? Inside the cabin?’
Seraphina Sinclair immediately retracted her hand, her gaze sweeping warily around the cabin where the battle had just concluded. Aside from that last E-level monster, all she had encountered today were Rotting Corpses.
The cabin, aside from a few bloodstains, was practically spotless.
Thus, a quick scan was all Seraphina Sinclair needed to confirm that there was nothing new inside the mobile cabin.
’Then... where could it be?’
’And what is it, exactly?’
Just as she was racking her brain, the Sunflower chimed in again.
’It’s so close... Smells so good, want it. Why can’t the little person find it? So dumb...’
’What?’
’Little person?’
’Who’s the little person? And who’s it calling dumb?’
Seraphina Sinclair stared at the Sunflower in disbelief. ’That damn plant!’
’Whatever. I’m a human. It’s beneath me to argue with something that isn’t.’
Suddenly, Seraphina Sinclair was in no hurry at all. Something else was far more anxious than she was, and she had no intention of moving until it explained itself more clearly.
She simply crossed her arms, leaned against the doorframe, and watched in amusement as the Sunflower began to quiver with impatience.
’Such a dumb little person...’
’Can’t find... anxious...’
’Smell... getting stronger...’
The Sunflower’s thoughts grew more frequent, its exasperation becoming almost palpable.
It even tried to point with its leaves, but the tiny movements looked more like helpless trembling.
Seraphina Sinclair raised an eyebrow, deliberately drawing out her words. "Oh? What smells so wonderful? Where is it? How come I can’t smell or see a thing?"
But the Sunflower clearly didn’t understand her.
All it knew was that the little person wasn’t moving, just babbling on with words she seemed to think everything else could understand.
’Annoying little person!’
The Sunflower was practically drooling. If it had a mouth, it would be giving her a piece of its mind right now!
’What is this... something I’ve never had before... It smells SO—good!’
Seraphina Sinclair guessed it might be something like nutrient liquid.
But it couldn’t be nutrient liquid. The Sunflower had consumed that before, and it wouldn’t have elicited such a desperate craving.
’Besides...’
Seraphina Sinclair thought back carefully.
She hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary today. Wake up, eat, exercise, give the Sunflower its daily dose of sun, move the cabin, get a Supply Box. All perfectly normal.
’So why is this happening?’
Seraphina Sinclair was still frowning, but in the next moment, her expression cleared.
’Life has been so hectic these past few days that I almost forgot why I chose The Misty Path in the first place!’
’First, because I have [Water Stopping]. And second...’
’Wasn’t it because this Sunflower said there was "good stuff"?!’
’It said the scent was very far away back then!’
’Now it suddenly says, "We’re here." This has to be it.’
The Description for the path choice even said, "Occasionally... you might even stumble upon a land of opportunity, overflowing with treasure!"
’It must have been talking about this place.’
’So... where is it?’ Now it was Seraphina Sinclair’s turn to feel exasperated.
’This dumb Sunflower just keeps repeating "smells good," "never had before," and "anxious"—such useless phrases!’
’Nothing constructive at all!’
’And it had the nerve to call *me* dumb.’
’What a bad Sunflower.’
Seraphina Sinclair propped her chin on her hand, thinking for a moment, before getting up to pace around the mobile cabin. The Sunflower’s leaves trembled even more violently, almost making a RUSTLING sound.
’Not in here... not...’
It sounded almost aggrieved, yet incredibly urgent. ’Outside... so close, right outside!’
The "thought" was so loud that Seraphina Sinclair instinctively glanced out the window.
The monster that had dropped the Immunity Crystal was still standing outside.
And since today was the fourth day—the day her Immunity Crystal was set to expire—Seraphina Sinclair was already wearing her Protective Clothing.
’I have to admit, this suit works wonders. I can’t feel any negative effects at all.’
On top of that, business had been exceptionally good today.
If she hadn’t spent half of yesterday drawing rune paper, Seraphina Sinclair wouldn’t have been able to close these deals today.
In addition to the three standard types of crystals, Seraphina Sinclair had also managed to trade for a more unique material: Black Phosphorus Powder.
The name alone didn’t reveal much, but its Description was strikingly similar to that of Moonlight Powder, so the moment Seraphina Sinclair saw it, she knew she had to have it.
Seraphina Sinclair shook her head. ’This isn’t the time to be thinking about that.’
She looked out the window at the Memory Eater.
Seraphina Sinclair originally had no intention of killing it, but plans change.
Now the Sunflower was saying the item was outside, but not beyond the door. The only other way for Seraphina Sinclair to access the outside was through this very window.
The Memory Eater might be quiet, but it was blocking her view!
Seraphina Sinclair pulled three Fire Drawing Runes from her Silver Moon Earrings. After a moment of thought, she put the three rune papers back and instead took out the very first E-level Talisman she had ever made: the Purifying Flame Rune!
’This is probably the first in the entire Black Mist World...’
’No.’
’That’s a bit of an exaggeration.’
’To be precise, this is the first E-level Talisman to be used in Zone 888 of Drakonia’s Third Major Zone!’
’And this Memory Eater is about to become the first monster in the entire Zone to be incinerated by an E-level Talisman!’
’It should be honored.’
Seraphina Sinclair didn’t know if the Memory Eater felt honored, but she certainly was delighted.
She had finally found a justifiable, and not entirely wasteful, opportunity to use this E-level Talisman!
She had been curious about this rune’s effects for a very long time.
