Chapter 1145 - 759: I Came to See You, Not My Wife

  • Next Chapter

"That guy named Chi Lun, why did he ask you out to eat alone?"

Yin Shixiu’s voice sank. He hadn’t planned on interrogating Su Xiaomeng, it was just...he honestly didn’t know what else to say.

But this man whose IQ, EQ, and every other Q were all sky-high realized how stupid he was the second the question left his mouth! How rattled did he have to be to make such a mistake!

Once the words were spoken, they couldn’t be taken back. Any further explanation would just look like he was trying to cover things up.

Su Xiaomeng turned around and fixed her gaze on Yin Shixiu, explaining word by word, "Professor Chi has never once asked me to eat alone. It was the teachers from the department who invited me together, to welcome a new colleague like me who’s just arrived."

Yin Shixiu’s mind went "buzz" on the spot! His brows furrowed tight. "No way, Shuangshuang clearly said some man asked you out to dinner..."

Su Xiaomeng smiled. "Yin Shixiu, I already said I’ll accept whatever explanation you give, so there is absolutely no need for you to pin this on Shuangshuang. That’s so not manly."

"No, Xiao Meng..."

"Even if someone did ask me out to dinner alone, you still had no right to make Shuangshuang delete my WeChat and mess with my contacts! Yin Shixiu, I don’t want to fight with you—it’s pointless! But don’t you push your luck too far either!"

The calm expression Su Xiaomeng had been forcing finally cracked.

"That little girl said the man who asked you out was young and handsome, and good at everything under the sun. She was scrolling through his Moments and fangirling like crazy... I was just joking around. I figured if the man was a decent person, even if that message got deleted, it wouldn’t matter—"

"Wouldn’t matter?!"

Su Xiaomeng stared at him in shock. "Do you have any idea how nervous I’ve been, just entering a new environment and starting to teach at a university? Do you know I’ve spent several nights worrying that I’m not capable enough, that my professional skills aren’t strong enough? Do you know that getting along with other teachers and colleagues right from the start is not some simple thing?!"

"..."

"You rushed over here straight from getting off the plane just to say it...wouldn’t matter? Yin Shixiu, if you were really some brainless guy I might accept it, but you’re someone who understands everything, who knows exactly what’s going on..."

Su Xiaomeng yanked her hand out of Yin Shixiu’s grip and said coolly,

"It’s not that Professor Chi doesn’t matter. It’s that compared to you, the things that happen to me suddenly don’t matter anymore."

"You know that’s not what this is, so why twist it? I was just joking around with that little girl at your expense. Why are you this angry?"

"Yin Shixiu! Get out! Get out right now, immediately! Go back to London, go back to the United Kingdom!"

Su Xiaomeng gave Yin Shixiu a hard shove, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at the man in front of her!

Why be this angry? If only heaven knew...if only heaven knew!

Su Xiaomeng turned around and left the pavilion.

Yin Shixiu stood where he was, his hands hanging limply at his sides, watching Su Xiaomeng’s furious back as she stormed off... Somehow this scene didn’t quite match the one he’d imagined...

Su Xiaomeng was so angry that even her footsteps were like she was stomping holes in the ground! Fuming, she stormed back to the office. Chi Lun already wasn’t in the mood for this couple’s drama, but when a certain someone walked in it was like she brought back a magnitude five or six earthquake with her!

Each step she took shook the water in the glass on his desk.

Chi Lun blinked and looked over at Su Xiaomeng. "Teacher Su...what’s wrong? Had a fight with your husband?"

"He’s a bastard, don’t mention him!"

Su Xiaomeng said viciously, yanked out a chair, and dropped her butt down with a heavy thump—only to hear a "thud" as she landed on the floor instead!

Chi Lun was stunned at the sight, and the next second he burst into wild laughter!

"Hahaha! Hahahaha!..."

The fall hurt so bad it was like her bones were being drilled into. Su Xiaomeng glared at Chi Lun with dark, stormy eyes, and under that glare he forcibly swallowed his laughter...

Chi Lun quickly cleared his throat. "Ahem, y-you, are you okay?"

"Crocodile tears, fake sympathy! None of you men are any good! I’m not going to your lecture this afternoon! Big deal!"

"Hey, hey, Teacher Su, don’t take it out on me. I’m innocent here."

"This is all because of you! Innocent my ass!"

Su Xiaomeng was completely unfiltered by now. Chi Lun leaned back in his chair, arms folded across his chest. "Tsk, tsk, Teacher Su, you talk to me like that—are you planning to be an assistant for the rest of your life?"

"Who’d be that useless, wanting to be an assistant for life?"

Su Xiaomeng shot back immediately, looking all full of lofty ambition.

Then she saw Chi Lun smile, his long fingers pointing lightly at her. "You."

"..."

Only then did Su Xiaomeng snap out of it, realizing she really had lost it. She’d been so pissed off by Yin Shixiu she’d gone over the edge and forgotten place and company...

She lowered her head and muttered, "If you mess with my evaluation over such a tiny thing, then you’re petty..."

Chi Lun looked at her flushed face; the arrogant fire in her had disappeared in an instant... He couldn’t help letting out two more chuckles. "Teacher Su, you really are something!"

Right now Su Xiaomeng was practically radiating "strangers keep away," "kill gods if they come," "kill Buddhas if they come." Even Chi Lun’s casual remarks sounded barbed to her, and she couldn’t help muttering under her breath again, "So interesting... What am I, a toy? You’re interesting, your whole family’s interesting..."

"Haha! Come on, Teacher Su, I’m hungry. Go to the cafeteria and get me a meal, two meat dishes and one vegetable. Anything’s fine, I’m not picky."

As he spoke, Chi Lun casually flicked his meal card onto Su Xiaomeng’s desk, where it landed perfectly flat.

Su Xiaomeng lowered her head to look at the card in front of her, which even had a one-inch photo of Chi Lun stuck on it. She quickly looked up at him. "Why don’t you go get it yourself?"

"I’m very busy, can’t you see?"

"..." Su Xiaomeng looked at Chi Lun leaning back in his chair, cradling a cup of coffee, completely laid-back. There was honestly not a trace of "busy" anywhere to be seen!

"Do me a favor, yeah?"

Su Xiaomeng took a deep breath, supporting her aching backside as she walked step by step toward the door. As she walked, she couldn’t help cutting him a sideways glance, only to see that Professor Chi really didn’t have a shred of sympathy for her. He even called after her,

"Hurry there and back!"

Su Xiaomeng pressed her lips together and marched toward the cafeteria in a huff. Everyone was bullying her today!

After Xiao Meng left, Chi Lun was still leaning back in his chair, cup of coffee in hand, his gaze drifting lazily toward the doorway, as if he were waiting for someone...

Before long, he saw Yin Shixiu reappear at the office door. Putting on an act, Yin Shixiu knocked on the door.

"Hello, I’m Yin Shixiu, Su Xiaomeng’s husband."

"Mm, Xiao Meng went out to get me a meal. Mr. Yin, didn’t you already see your wife just now? What brings you back again?"

"I’m here to see you, not my wife."

"Oh?"

Chi Lun actually found this pretty interesting. "Then please sit, Mr. Yin. Want some coffee?"

"No, I only have two things to say."
