Chapter 21: 21 - If I even Frown, then I’m not a Reader

The random excuse King made up was something even a child wouldn’t believe, let alone Iris. Luckily for him, she didn’t want to push him too hard right now, so she let him go.

"Since you put it that way, I’ll take it as that for now."

The moment he was released, King immediately pulled away from her until he was two meters away. This distance was meaningless against Iris’s rank VI strength, but at least it gave him a mental strength buff.

Not only did King put some distance between them, but he also turned his eyes toward the TV. He adjusted the angle precisely so Iris wouldn’t enter his field of vision.

But King didn’t expect that the moment he looked at the TV, he saw Emily’s face. She was still at the scene and seemed to be getting interviewed about the matter related to the ’mysterious person’.

It seemed the crew had made very thorough preparations, so her cheeks, which King had slapped until they swelled up, now strangely looked completely normal.

"There is a rumor online that the mysterious person who took down the rank III corrupted cultivator is someone you know. Is that true?"

The reporter held the microphone out to Emily. This was the first time she’d been asked something like this on live television, but surprisingly, she didn’t show the slightest bit of nervousness.

It wasn’t some kind of innate talent, but because someone had already given her the answer. This was just a performance that had been arranged earlier.

"I do know someone named Mark, but saying he’s my friend would be very wrong. It’s more accurate to say we’re somewhat acquainted. Mark is about my age, and he only came here to try his luck.

He’s not a cultivator at all. I’m sure everyone knows how cultivators cultivate, right? So there’s no way an ordinary person could suddenly slash a rank III corrupted cultivator to death."

Her eyes stared straight into the camera, her expression calm as if she were simply recounting a fact. It wasn’t because she had great acting talent, but because she was actually telling the truth.

They only met for a few minutes, but Emily already knew that King had taken over Mark’s body. It could be said that, to her, this wasn’t a bad thing since it got rid of someone who annoyed her from this world.

"Oh, then what about those videos spreading across the internet at an astonishing speed? Could they all be fake?"

The reporter widened her eyes in surprise. Her expression seemed a little exaggerated, but it was still within the range of believability.

"Everyone needs to stay calm. This is an era where AI is developing rapidly. AI-generated videos and edited videos are already everywhere on the internet. Don’t let people with bad intentions lead you around by the nose and end up getting yourselves killed. Believe in the truth proven by the deaths of countless cultivators."

Emily pointed straight at the camera, her tone sharp as if she were a real propaganda expert rather than some female student.

Of course, when something this good, like getting on television, suddenly fell into her hands, she had to make the most of it. She was about to join the Cultivation Academy as a genius, so raising her reputation was something she should do.

She spoke very well. So well that everyone nodded in agreement, except for one person standing in front of the TV who was gritting his teeth in anger. That person was none other than King.

"What the hell are you talking about? Isn’t this burying my reputation?"

If Emily had been nearby, King definitely would have given her two more slaps for talking nonsense. How was this supposed to let the world know about his greatness?

"Calm down a little. Even though some of Emily’s statements are partly for her own benefit, that’s not the main point. She has no reason to think of a way to help you. We were the ones who arranged everything."

Seeing that King wanted to beat Emily up, Iris immediately explained. There was no reason to hide this from King anyway. With his temper, if he found out later that they had ordered Emily around behind his back, he would definitely cause trouble, so it was better to tell him directly from the beginning.

"What do you mean? If she keeps talking nonsense like that, won’t that mean other people won’t know who I am?"

His eyebrows furrowed, his face extremely displeased. If he didn’t get a satisfactory explanation, he would definitely find a way to cause trouble.

"Do you want fame or do you want to get yourself killed? You’re only rank III right now, but you have all kinds of incredible things on you. It would be strange if someone didn’t set a trap for you and take you away to be a test subject."

Iris rolled her eyes at King. She felt that it was really bad for him to have absolutely no sense of caution like this.

She was indeed the strongest, and the Cultivation Academy was also the most powerful. But they couldn’t make the entire world do whatever they wanted.

There would inevitably be some extremists who wanted to study King’s secrets through methods that weren’t exactly humane.

A shortcut to obtaining the power humanity had been searching for a long time without any results, so there would definitely be quite a few reckless people willing to study King.

"Am I supposed to be afraid of them? If they’ve got what it takes, then bring the whole bunch here and see. If I even frown, then I’m not a reader."

Don’t think Iris using such a fierce tone could scare him. Even if things got really bad, he could just find his way into the tower and hack his level inside.

After all, the corruption couldn’t do anything to him, so as long as he wanted to, he would become invincible very quickly. The only reason he wasn’t doing that now was that he felt that the ’speed run’ experience wouldn’t be interesting.

King’s fearless attitude made Iris’s mouth twitch. If he were rank V and still talked this big, she could agree with him, but he was only rank III and already thinking like this. That was really bad.

There was no point in saying more, so Iris didn’t want to continue and merely shook her head. As expected, King still really needed her protection.

If this continued without anyone protecting him, King might even die before he had a chance to break through to rank IV.

If she knew that King’s system could even send him to another world to ’seek death’, her expression would probably be interesting.
