Chapter 2256: We cannot do that.
Chapter 2256: We cannot do that.
“As for me,
You gave me the best gift in the entire Universe, you have no need to apologize to me.”
Nux spoke with a smile so gentle and beautiful that for a moment, the women—Allura and all others—froze.
That smile…
That was the exact smile they all wanted to be the reason for.
The exact smile they were all so distraught about when they found out Allura took that opportunity from them.
A smile they would… willingly give their all for.
“N-Nux…”
Allura called out with a stutter, her hands trembling as she held Nux’s hands even tighter. The emotions in her eyes were so intense she couldn’t even describe them.
That was when Felberta spoke—
“That gift is why we are here.”
—taking Nux’s attention.
Nux slowly turned towards his first wife, and in her eyes, he saw coldness. It was extremely subtle, so well hidden that even the rest of the women sitting right beside Felberta did not notice it.
But Nux did.
And he understood it.
Like the other women, Felberta too wanted to be in Allura’s place, and seeing her getting his attention like this… even though Felberta cared about family more than anyone else, it was still a sight that stung her heart.
And Nux, he held Allura’s hands tightly, signaling that he would have a private conversation with her later, and then glanced at Felberta.
“The child?”
He asked.
“Mhm, Allura’s baby!”
Skyla spoke excitedly, her eyes shining strongly.
“We want to know what he will be.”
Lane added quietly,
“What bloodline he will inherit? His traits, his potential…
We wish to know it all.”
Vyriana spoke, her mind already coming up with… ’ideas.’
“Will he be a full Incubus?”
Rune asked bluntly.
“Or would he carry your… ridiculous mix?”
The Cat-woman spoke, not knowing how else to describe… whatever Nux was right now.
The rest of the women leaned forward as well, wanting to know the answer. After all, this wasn’t just about Allura; it was connected to them and their future children as well.
Even Shadow, who usually just messed around and knew most things, was the same—this was something even she did not know.
“So that’s what you all wish to know, huh…”
He muttered, staring at all his wives. Even Allura was now staring at him intensely, as if she were searching for answers on his face.
“That’s why you all came the instant I woke up.”
He nodded to himself.
“That is correct.”
The women nodded seriously.
And Nux—
He leaned back as he sat on the floor he was kneeling on and—
“Let’s see what happens, shall we?”
He answered.
The women blinked, and as if Nux knew what they were thinking, he just looked at them and—
“How am I supposed to know something like that?
We should just let nature take its course, don’t you think?”
And the moment the women realized that he had no intention of telling them, their mouths twitched in annoyance, all at the same time.
As for Nux not knowing the answer?
Not a single one of them bought that bullshit.
This was Nux they were talking about.
The man who was paranoid beyond belief.
It was HIS child.
His FIRST child.
Would someone like Nux not look into what his child would be? His potential? His bloodline? His health?
Someone like Nux wouldn’t be able to close his eyes if he didn’t know these answers, let alone tease and smile like he was right now.
Vyriana was currently so pissed she was considering throwing a rock at this bastard, but the dragon knew it would do absolutely nothing to this monster.
The worst part?
Seeing that grin on his face, it was clear he had arranged things so that even if they wanted to look for an answer, they wouldn’t find anything.
He… he wanted them to remain curious.
This was… his sick way of getting back at them after he lost.
How ridiculous!
How petty!
The women clenched their fists in anger, thinking of ways they would get back at him, and Nux…
He grinned even more, extremely satisfied by the reactions he was seeing.
“Nux.”
That was when Amaya called out in a calm tone but with a sharp look in her eyes. Nux turned towards her and tilted his head in curiosity.
Amaya’s mouth twitched, probably trying to stop her expression from faltering and falling for his teasing again,
And this time, the Devourer succeeded.
“That’s enough playing around.
Have you seen what’s happening in the Main Universe?”
In an instant, the room quietened. Even Edda, who had been whispering some nonsense into Skyla’s ear, stopped. Shadow leaned back a little, like she already knew what kind of conversation this was going to become.
Vyriana, Astaria and Aeliana too had solemn looks on their faces.
Amaya’s gaze stayed on Nux and she continued.
“Ever since the Four Infinities came together, information regarding the Anomaly has been spread.
His face, his abilities, and his… connections.
Everything is out now.
Everyone outside knows who you are.
Not just you; the mercenary records that we destroyed are now out, and the faces of the members of the Leander Family are exposed too.
The people are no longer hunting rumors…
They are coming for us.”
Amaya spoke with a solemn look on her face, instantly killing the joyful mood of the room. After all, it was high time they returned to what actually mattered most right now.
The entire Universe was now against them. They needed to have a thorough discussion about how they were going to continue from here.
“And the ones leading them are the Four Infinities.”
Amaya spoke directly.
Her sentence landed hard.
Even though the women had already heard it before, hearing it said like that made all this… much more serious.
“So…”
After a long, heavy pause, Vyriana raised her voice.
“So what is the plan?”
The Dragon asked, looking not just at Nux but every single person inside, making sure everyone understood she wasn’t only asking Nux.
She was asking all of them.
And once again, there was silence.
After all, it wasn’t an easy question to answer.
The enemies they were facing were no longer leaders of small factions, some lands, continents, or even worlds…
Their enemies were the leaders of an entire Universe—beings so strong that even now, the limits of their strength were unknown.
The silence lasted a good, long while, until—
“We don’t have to leave our Universe anymore.”
Aeliana spoke up with a serious look on her face. She then pointed at the room around them and—
“We have every Primordial Energy we wanted. Our Universe can now support life, it can grow on its own. We can grow on our own.
We no longer need the Main Universe.
We now have a home.
A place they cannot reach easily.”
Her eyes flickered to the women around her—
“And now…”
Then her gaze landed on Allura’s belly, then shifted—one by one—to the others who carried the same, quiet change inside them.
“Now we have lives to protect.”
Allura stiffened slightly, rubbing her belly out of habit.
Aeliana, on the other hand, nodded more strongly, her gaze becoming even firmer as she looked at Nux.
“We should stay here.
Let the Main Universe scream.
Let those people gather.
Let them waste their power looking for us.”
Then, after a slight pause—
“Let them fail.”
She declared arrogantly, as if sure that as long as they did not do anything foolish, the enemies would have no way of finding them.
But Nux…
“No.”
He shook his head.
“We cannot do that.”
He spoke simply, and Aeliana frowned, unable to understand.
Nux then stood up from the floor and slowly walked towards the window, staring outside at his Universe. His open shirt hung loose, but the faint traces of teeth and nails that he had kept all this while after pausing his healing began to vanish as the casual, playful air around him disappeared.
“Cosmic time is slow,”
He said slowly.
“Painfully slow.”
He then turned back towards his wives, staring specifically at Aeliana.
“Yes, our Universe will grow on its own now. It will expand. It will deepen. It will become stronger.
But that won’t happen in months, years or… even centuries.”
Nux’s tone sharpened ever so slightly and—
“It will take billions, trillions of years, maybe even more.”
And the instant Nux said those words, the women became quiet. Some turned towards Shadow, almost as if wanting to confirm Nux’s words, and Shadow nodded.
It was something she knew as well.
Nux smiled at that and then continued,
“Our Universe is perfect in structure,
But it still has flaws.”
“What flaws?”
Amaya asked.
“The biggest one?”
Nux glanced around the room and then—
“It still cannot support true individuals.”
The women frowned at those words.
Cannot support true individuals?
How was that possible?
Didn’t they already have everything needed?
Then what was the issue now?
Was there something they… still lacked?
