Chapter 411: The Final Trump Card
Chapter 411: Chapter 411: The Final Trump Card
"Buzz, buzz, buzz..."
Space quivered restlessly, and in the air there spread an astonishing aura of Law, entwined with the Power of the Dao, sharp and shocking, causing everyone present to feel their hearts involuntarily tremble.
"Boom!"
"Crack!"
In merely a few breaths’ time, under the eyes of all, two streaks of sword light viciously collided together.
Ji Chen had virtually poured out his full strength just to barely withstand this sword strike from Murong Lingyun.
At this moment, his breathing had become noticeably heavier.
It was evident that to block this sword, Ji Chen had paid no small price.
The consumption of his own Spiritual Power was, without doubt, extremely astonishing.
"Already about to fall apart so soon?"
High in the void, Murong Lingyun stood with hands clasped behind his back, his gaze sweeping down over Ji Chen from on high.
He too could clearly see that Ji Chen, in blocking his attacks twice in a row, had burned through a massive amount of Spiritual Power.
"Huff!"
Yet faced with his words, Ji Chen gave no reply. He merely drew in a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.
"Hum!"
Space shuddered slightly, and then, in Ji Chen’s hands, light flashed. The Purple Ink Halberd and a golden shield appeared, each gripped in one of his hands.
He knew very well that in facing a Half-Step Emperor Realm powerhouse like Murong Lingyun, if he chose to clash in pure Cultivation Techniques, the one to suffer would inevitably be himself.
In this battle, if he wished to win, Ji Chen’s only chance lay in the advantage brought by his Hongmeng Body.
In close-quarter slaughter, with a Daoist Emperor’s Weapon and Emperor’s Shield in hand, he did not lack for odds of victory.
"Kill!"
With a cold shout, a chill flashed in Ji Chen’s eyes, and then his whole figure turned into a streak of black shadow, incomparably swift, leaving only a trailing afterimage as he moved. In the blink of an eye he was upon Murong Lingyun.
"Hum!"
Spatial force vibrated, black light flared, and the Purple Ink Halberd thrust out with all his might, aiming straight at the space between Murong Lingyun’s brows.
"Swish!"
However, in the face of Ji Chen’s attack, Murong Lingyun had long since made his preparations.
With a single leap, he easily slipped past the halberd’s strike. At the same time his fingers formed a Seal Technique, sending out a streak of divine light that pressed down toward Ji Chen.
"Boom!"
Ji Chen raised the Emperor’s Shield before him, blocking Murong Lingyun’s attack.
Though he remained uninjured, the terrifying force still sent his entire body flying far back.
Only after retreating several hundred zhang did he finally manage to steady himself.
Ji Chen frowned, staring at his opponent.
What he had not expected was that before Murong Lingyun, the Emperor’s Shield’s rebound effect seemed to have lost its function; it had failed to reflect the attacks it had absorbed back at the enemy.
"You’re not stupid—you know where your advantage lies."
Up in the void, Murong Lingyun let out a cold laugh. "Unfortunately, before absolute strength, you are destined to have no chance of victory whatsoever. Ji Chen, that Special Physique you’re so proud of is nothing at all in my eyes."
"Boom!"
As his words fell, Murong Lingyun clenched his fist and, without the slightest hesitation, blasted it out.
Divine radiance poured forth, transforming into a terrifying fist aura that shook space until it collapsed and caved in.
Ji Chen did not dare be careless in the slightest, crossing the Emperor’s Shield before his body once more to block Murong Lingyun’s attack.
But the overwhelming force still sent him flying yet again.
More than that, a strand of that dreadful fist momentum seeped through the Emperor’s Shield and slammed into Ji Chen’s body.
If not for his Hongmeng Body, and the Emperor Armor he wore upon him, by the might contained in just that single strand of fist momentum, anyone beneath the Emperor Realm would likely have been shaken to ash on the spot.
"Kill!"
Once his body steadied, Ji Chen charged forth again. Black light blazed, and the Purple Ink Halberd stabbed out viciously, straight toward Murong Lingyun’s vital spots.
"Bang!"
Yet Murong Lingyun only snorted coldly. With a sweep of his great hand, he stirred up a terrifying storm of energy that sent Ji Chen flying once more.
"Is this all you amount to?"
Seeing that Ji Chen’s complexion had already turned much paler, Murong Lingyun stood proudly.
The opponent’s successive attacks had failed to inflict the slightest effect upon him.
This was simply the gap in Realm being too vast, resulting in absolute suppression.
"Ji Chen, your talent is good, your potential extraordinary, and your future achievements will certainly not be low. If you are willing to submit to me right now, I may consider sparing your life," Murong Lingyun said, sounding supremely arrogant.
"You truly think victory over me is already certain?"
Yet in response to his words, Ji Chen only let out a cold snort.
Murong Lingyun sneered, "Whatever means you still have, bring them all out. Before me, they will ultimately be nothing but futile."
"Is that so?"
Ji Chen gave a cold smile, meeting his gaze.
"Hum!"
As the words fell, he drew in a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.
In the next instant, this stretch of space began to shudder violently.
The earth quaked with it, and the entire Donglin City was shaken by a tremendous tremor.
Radiance erupted, shooting skyward from all directions with incredible speed. In just the blink of an eye, it pierced into the high heavens, then wove together, forming what was like a vast celestial net that sealed off this several-thousand-zhang expanse of void.
"A Killing Array?"
Murong Lingyun’s gaze narrowed, a hint of surprise flashing there—but only that.
Very quickly, he could not help but coldly laugh again as he looked toward Ji Chen and said, "A measly Killing Array—how great a storm do you think it can stir?"
Not that he was blindly arrogant, but with his Cultivation having reached the Half-Step Emperor Realm, in Murong Lingyun’s view, any Killing Array Ji Chen could construct simply could not pose any true threat to him.
"If I wanted to kill you, with this Grand Array alone, perhaps it really wouldn’t be enough."
"But if you think that’s all there is, then you are underestimating me far too much."
Ji Chen let out a cold laugh. As his words fell, a streak of golden light flashed out from within his body, instantly enlarging above his head.
"What is that?"
Among the mountains all around, everyone was stunned, their gazes fixed from afar.
They saw that above Ji Chen’s head, golden light flowed and finally transformed into a colossal treasure tower, hanging suspended between heaven and earth.
This was the phantom of the Spirit Emperor Tower within his Spiritual Sea, now manifested outward by Ji Chen.
"Hm?"
Murong Lingyun’s brows knit slightly. The instant he saw the Spirit Emperor Tower, a vague sense of foreboding arose in his heart.
He could feel that within the tower, there was a faintly emanating, astonishing aura, as if some dreadful existence were sealed inside it, one that could awaken at any moment.
"Roar!"
And just as such thoughts flickered through his mind, deafening roars suddenly rang out. In the next moment, beams of light shot forth from within the Spirit Emperor Tower one after another—each beam, in fact, was a terrible Ancient Strange Beast. Their numbers were beyond counting, and in an instant they blanketed the entire expanse of void.
