Chapter 190: Chapter 189: Get Your Manager

The Qi Yue Medical Research Center’s get-together was held at Hundred Fresh Pavilion, the same restaurant as Yu Zhiming’s first gathering.

Aside from the addition of Qiao Lei, it was the same group of people as before.

While they were ordering, Yu Zhiming specifically asked the waiter and found out that the original Chef Yin had resigned due to health reasons and returned to his hometown to rest.

Hundred Fresh Pavilion had hired a new head chef whose skills were just as good, if not better, and had added many new dishes to the menu.

The waiter added that the new chef’s cooking was a hit with both new and regular customers...

"Sigh, I’m in such a bad mood. I have no appetite at all!"

Following the sound, Yu Zhiming looked over at Doctor Han Shuo, who was listlessly flipping through the menu with a miserable look on his face.

Of everyone at the center, Han Shuo, an avid calligraphy enthusiast, had been the most heartbroken about the theft of the calligraphy piece.

Han Shuo heaved another long sigh and asked, seemingly nonchalantly, "Do you have any live grouper?"

The waiter quickly replied, "Yes, yes! We currently have a one-point-three-pound red grouper and a two-and-a-half-pound green grouper."

"The red grouper is more expensive. We’ll take the green grouper, steamed!"

Han Shuo, having made his choice, passed the menu to Doctor Xie Jianmin beside him.

Xie Jianmin chuckled. "Doctor Han, I thought you were too upset to have an appetite?"

Han Shuo retorted with self-assurance, "That’s exactly why I need a delicacy like this—to tempt my appetite back."

"Right, Director?"

Qi Yue shot him a disdainful look before turning to Yu Zhiming. "I see no problem with this prosthetic eye charity event. If you have the time, you should participate in more social activities like this."

"Doctors can’t just be cooped up in the hospital saving lives all the time. You need to have your own life and social connections."

"Oh, National Day is coming up. Do you have any plans?"

Yu Zhiming said thoughtfully, "I haven’t really thought about it, Professor. Besides, this ultra-early-stage cancer project is keeping me very busy."

Qi Yue chuckled. "You should rest when it’s time to rest!"

"Even Academicians Zhang and Tan aren’t busy year-round. They spend the holidays enjoying time with their families too."

Qi Yue added, "I’ll talk to them about the work schedule for the National Day holiday."

"Thank you for your concern, Professor!"

Yu Zhiming smiled and thanked him, just as he heard Head Nurse Yan Wenjing’s voice.

"Not only has Dr. Yu performed one amazing feat after another since joining the center, but most importantly, he has never made a single mistake."

Yan Wenjing then sighed. "Unlike my son. Ever since he came back from his advanced training, he’s made one small mistake after another. His director is always chewing him out. He’s taking it very hard."

Yu Zhiming chuckled. "Sister Yan, I may have a lot of work, but I handle a relatively small number of patients."

"Once the patient load increases, some mistakes are inevitable."

"Besides, being chewed out by a superior is a good thing. It means they’re teaching you, guiding you. What young doctors should fear isn’t getting yelled at, but being completely ignored."

Yan Wenjing smiled faintly. "That’s true. My son is so busy these days he barely has time to sleep, let alone date."

"The hospital union is organizing a mixer for young staff tomorrow. I gave him strict orders that he absolutely must go."

"Dr. Yu, will you be going?"

Yu Zhiming shook his head. "I’ll be busy at Ning’an Hospital all day tomorrow, so I won’t have time."

Yan Wenjing then looked toward Zhou Mo and Qiao Lei. "Are you two going?"

Qiao Lei said excitedly, "I’ve already made plans to go with Doctor Ding Ye."

Zhou Mo said in a flat tone, "I already made plans to go out with friends tomorrow."

Yan Wenjing smiled and said slowly, "This medical profession... it has its pros and cons."

"The main drawbacks are in your youth. You’re worked to death, and the pay isn’t great."

"If you don’t come from a family with some means, it’s not easy to even find a girlfriend."

Just then, Han Shuo said with a teasing smile, "Well, Dr. Yu doesn’t have to worry about that. Not only is he handsome, but his income is already at the level of a Chief Physician."

"He doesn’t even have to consider girls from ordinary backgrounds."

Qi Yue glanced at Han Shuo, then at Yan Wenjing, and said with a chuckle, "Don’t try to pull your little matchmaking schemes on Zhiming."

"He’s already been targeted by a major player, and they’re determined to have him."

Han Shuo pressed, "Director, which major player?"

"Ning’an Hospital!" Qi Yue replied succinctly.

Han Shuo drew out a long "Ohhh," then looked at Yu Zhiming with a grin. "Dr. Yu, the Gu Family of Ning’an is incredibly wealthy. Congratulations on your leap into the upper echelon."

Finding himself the center of attention, Yu Zhiming quickly explained, "It’s not what the Professor is making it sound like. I just collaborate with Ning’an Hospital a lot."

"Gu Qingning and I are just ordinary friends, and she isn’t even a very important figure in the Gu Family."

Qi Yue really wanted to tell this silly kid Gu Qingning’s true identity, but he had already promised Gu Qingran, so he could only keep it to himself for now.

Just then, three waiters entered in single file and began serving the food.

After they had placed all the cold appetizers on the table, two of the waiters left, but one, a young woman with a short ponytail who looked to be about twenty, remained.

Ignoring the warning glare from the waitress assigned to their private room, the young woman with the ponytail summoned her courage and spoke up.

"I’m sorry to interrupt, but are you the group of doctors who diagnosed Chef Yin with a heart condition last time?"

Qi Yue gestured for the room’s assigned waitress to stand down, then turned to the nervous-looking young woman with the ponytail.

"We are that group of doctors."

"If you’re looking for a medical consultation, I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you. We can’t give one."

"I suggest you go to a hospital."

The young woman grew anxious. "It’s not for me, it’s for my coworker!"

"She’s my roommate. I often see her in too much pain to sleep at night, and I’ve even seen her vomit blood!"

"More than once!"

"I told her to go to a hospital, but she said it’s too expensive and she can’t afford it."

"Can’t you please help her?"

The young woman said all this in a rush, then looked at Qi Yue and the others with an expectant expression.

She didn’t realize that her words had just made everyone at the table lose their appetite.

Pain so bad she couldn’t sleep, and vomiting blood on multiple occasions—her condition had to be serious.

’What if it’s contagious?’

The waitress assigned to the room was a woman in her mid-twenties with short, reddish-brown hair.

At that moment, she was so furious she could have strangled the young woman with the ponytail.

She hurriedly explained, "Distinguished guests, all of our employees at Hundred Fresh Pavilion, even the office staff, have health certificates and undergo regular medical check-ups."

"The manager also performs a health check on us every day. There is absolutely no situation like an employee vomiting blood, as she just described."

Qi Yue looked at her and said sternly, "This is no longer something you can handle."

"Get your manager."

Qi Yue then pointed at the young waitress. "And bring the employee she was talking about."

The waitress with the reddish-brown hair could only nod in agreement.

As she left, she tried to pull the young waitress away with her, but Qi Yue stopped her with a sharp command.

The waitress with reddish-brown hair had no choice but to leave her, whispering quickly in her ear as she passed.

"I’m begging you, stop talking."

"You’re going to get us all killed..."
