Chapter 549: Chapter 324: Tyrant, Contrast, Viral Exposure
"From a national perspective, this is a good thing. It means stability. But for the fate of the entire planet, it is a form of devolution. It’s a crime. It’s an irresponsible act against the destiny of future generations. It has thoroughly turned humanity into domesticated livestock."
Li Jingxian’s voice was serious and solemn.
Lin Chu stared intently into his eyes. To be fair, he was a little shaken.
’If everything he’s saying is true...’
’Then, that’s actually pretty damn impressive. Noble, even.’
’Now *that’s* what you call real conviction.’
But the sudden one-hundred-and-eighty-degree turn in attitude was still a bit hard for Lin Chu to accept right away.
"We’re here."
"Up ahead."
The plane began to descend. Ahead, on a flat patch of land on the snowy mountaintop, stood a small log cabin glowing with an orange light.
It even looked a little romantically desolate.
The plane slowly came to a stop.
Li Jingxian draped a coat over Lin Chu, shielding him from the frigid mountain wind, then led him toward the cabin.
CREAK.
The door was pushed open.
An old man in a wheelchair, wrapped in a heavy coat, sat facing a fireplace. On the mantel were two glasses of wine and two KFC family buckets. The flames crackled and popped.
Lin Chu was floored.
He was genuinely struggling to maintain his composure.
’A KFC family bucket?’
’A big shot like him invites me to dinner, and this is what we’re having?’
Caught between laughter and tears, Lin Chu felt an overwhelming sense of absurdity.
"Mr. Li, he’s here," Li Jingxian said with the utmost respect.
Liszt didn’t speak. He just waved his hand, his gaze turning to Lin Chu, his expression unchanging.
Li Jingxian gave a polite nod, stepped out, and closed the wooden door behind him.
Lin Chu studied him closely.
This old man was a near-perfect double of the one he had shot and killed in his wheelchair earlier.
At that moment, Lin Chu finally understood the source of that intense feeling of dissonance he’d been having.
According to Li Jingxian, the man’s life goal was exceedingly noble, but his methods were utterly despicable and far from honorable.
Of course, one could try to justify it with the concept of a "Vajra heart"—the simultaneous existence of a wrathful deity and a compassionate Bodhisattva, a noble left hand and a vile right hand.
But... that still felt a bit far-fetched.
"You invited me to dinner, and this is what we’re eating?"
Lin Chu sat down in the chair opposite the fireplace and said with a teasing smile, even as he casually opened the packaging. The golden fried chicken was still hot.
Liszt glanced over, a sudden fury rising in him. He grabbed the bucket in front of him and hurled it at Lin Chu.
Chicken pieces, popcorn chicken, and french fries scattered all over the floor.
"If you don’t want to eat, then get out!"
he shouted, slapping the armrests of his wheelchair.
Lin Chu’s expression remained blank. The act wasn’t physically harmful, but it was deeply insulting—more like some sort of obedience test.
"What’s the second test?" Lin Chu stood up and asked.
Liszt instantly regained his composure. He stared at Lin Chu with a burning intensity, his mouth suddenly splitting into a grin. "Patience."
Just then, Lin Chu’s phone began to ring.
It was a call from Gao Haitao.
He answered.
Gao Haitao’s frantic voice immediately came through the receiver.
"Brother Chu! The video of us killing those people just now was leaked online! It’s trending everywhere, on both Chinese and international media!"
Hearing this, Lin Chu felt his heart instantly begin to race. He looked at Liszt in his wheelchair, remembering the single word the old man had said just seconds before.
’Patience?’
’Patience!’
"Patience and time are often more effective than strength and anger."
"My time is running out. Before I die, show me that you can overcome this crisis."
"And then, you will earn one of the six seats in the club."
