Chapter 2814 - 2876: An Unfit Father

Li Yifei actually told him to get lost? Did he hear wrong? Did the other party really tell him to get lost? Zhang Bai repeatedly confirmed it, finding that he did not mishear; Li Yifei indeed told him to get lost, and just like that, Li Yifei said the word "get lost"?

Zhang Bai was so angry that his chest heaved, especially in front of Wu Shuwei; he almost wanted to act violently but forced himself to calm down, saying, "Li Yifei, you’re going too far!"

"Don’t make me say it a second time!" Li Yifei scoffed, "I don’t care whose son he is. When such a thing happens and causes enormous damage, he has to bear the responsibility. Now instead of thinking about punishment, he wants to escape responsibility? Nice try."

When he said this, Li Yifei thought of the girl who lost her boyfriend, crying so heartbreakingly—could monetary compensation really soothe such grief?

Zhang Bai shot a hateful look at Li Yifei and turned to leave. He was merely a messenger in this matter, passing a message to Yue Ming in one sense. But the humiliation received from Li Yifei would be remembered.

"What the hell!" Li Yifei blew a breath and couldn’t help but say.

"That’s simply shameless!" Wu Shuwei walked over and said.

Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei understood Yue Ming’s purpose: hoping that Li Yifei would show leniency. They believed Li Yifei was involved in the issue, making it difficult for the police to handle. If Li Yifei backed off, things would become easier for them.

Isn’t that falsely accusing Li Yifei? After completing the report, neither Li Yifei nor Wu Shuwei had inquired about the matter, nor did they have any reason to, but they didn’t expect the other party to act this way. Li Yifei couldn’t help but look into it a bit more. Now, thinking back, no wonder there was massive post-deletion online, likely done by either Zhang Bai or Yue Ming. Yue Ming was in the port business, while Zhang Bai worked on the internet, having many connections. It must be the latter.

"I will find someone to look into it." Li Yifei said.

Wu Shuwei nodded, saying, "I’ll also ask around. If Yue Ming oversteps, then... student relations be damned!"

Both agreed, each inquiring about it, receiving feedback that the instigator, Yue Ming’s son, was released on medical parole this morning. Now he’s in a major hospital in Haicheng, reportedly with multiple injuries and even applied for a psychiatric evaluation.

Upon hearing "psychiatric evaluation," Li Yifei immediately understood the trick. It’s the usual story; nowadays, whether it’s murder, car accident, or other cases, one of the simplest ways to bypass responsibility is to get a psychiatric evaluation, proving the perpetrator is mentally ill, thus escaping much of the punishment. If worked out further, they might even be acquitted.

Of course, compensation is still required, but for wealthy people, avoiding jail time and punishment is the best outcome. That’s why in recent years, when vicious events occur, people see the culprits soon turning out to be mentally ill.

Even if speculations are correct, ultimately, Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei didn’t know for sure, but both felt disgusted. Such heinous crimes resolved with money and connections are undoubtedly unfair to the deceased and injured!

Zhang Bai fuming walked out of the villa, distanced himself, then took out his phone and called Yue Ming, recounting his experience. Naturally, Zhang Bai exaggerated the details, leading Yue Ming to curse a few words upon hearing it, cursing in Haicheng dialect. Finally, he said, "Zhang Bai, so what he’s saying is, he won’t let go? He insists on arresting my son?"

"That’s what he means; damn, this guy is too arrogant, actually told me to get lost—Yue Ming, I’ve been around for so many years, when has anyone dared to tell me to get lost?" Zhang Bai said angrily.

Yue Ming frowned and said, "Don’t get upset yet, I’ll help you with this. Right now, the priority is getting my son out. He’s already released for medical treatment today; let’s see how things progress. If they keep pushing it, damn it... I’ll try again. He’s not from here, but his power is strong indeed."

Yue Ming felt uneasy as he spoke, not for any other reason, just considering Li Yifei’s billion-dollar estate, richer than both of them combined, which is why he initially asked Zhang Bai to approach Li Yifei, surprised by such an outcome.

"Yue Ming, I can’t do anything; once insulted is enough, there can’t be a second time. Otherwise, I’d have to hire a hitman!" Zhang Bai said coldly.

"Brother, sorry for the humiliation, sigh, this person looks ordinary but has quite the background and so domineering. Fine, I’ll go beg him personally; we were classmates after all!"

So, half an hour later, Yue Ming appeared outside the villa. The doorbell rang, Wu Shuwei went to open it, and saw Yue Ming at the door. Seeing him, Wu Shuwei said coldly, "What do you want?"

"Oh, Wu, is Li Yifei around? I’d like to discuss something with him," Yue Ming smiled.

Wu Shuwei stepped aside, saying, "Come in!"

Li Yifei was still sitting; Yue Ming walked in and, seeing Li Yifei, smiled more broadly, approaching him quickly, saying, "Hello, Student Li."

By now, Yue Ming understood why someone as prominent as Xiang Ba would apologize publicly to Li Yifei; now, he also had to lower his head because of his son’s affair.

"Sit down," Li Yifei said sternly.

Yue Ming sat down, directly addressing the topic, "Student Li, I just got word of the incident night before last; I’m deeply regretful and apologetic. I came specifically to apologize."

Li Yifei raised his hand, stopping Yue Ming, saying, "No need to apologize; since you are the father of the perpetrator, I want to hear your handling opinion."

This guy is truly arrogant! Yue Ming thought, but on the surface, he smiled, "Well... there’s a saying, ’Parents’ hearts are pitiful.’ Student Li, I’m maybe a few years older than you, but you’re likely a father too. Faced with such matters, as a father, it’s really difficult to handle. The person who violates the law should be punished, and the dead and injured should receive compensation; that’s the right and proper thing."

Li Yifei showed no reaction because he understood Yue Ming had more to say; otherwise, he wouldn’t do this. Sure enough, Yue Ming continued, "But as a father, seeing his child go to jail, I can’t bear it, and he’s still young, just started college, with an infinite future. If interrupted by jail time, as a father, I’d live in self-reproach for life."

"Why self-reproach?" Li Yifei suddenly asked.

Yue Ming paused, then said, "His life just started, and now... it’s going to break. I’m not a competent father, too focused on work these years, neglecting his education!"

"Are you divorced?" Li Yifei asked again.

Yue Ming shook his head, "No, just... his mother isn’t good at child education, so..."

"Oh, did you know Zhang Bai came by earlier?"

Li Yifei’s questions jumped around; Yue Ming hesitated a moment, then nodded, "Yes, he’s my friend, wanting to help me resolve some trouble."

"Resolve trouble?"

"Yes... he knew the child almost hit you all, so he came to apologize first."

Li Yifei shook his head with a smile, "Yue Ming, I’ve helped you a lot already. If I hadn’t been there, stopped that out-of-control car, more than two people would’ve died. It would’ve been a bloody mess across the road, so you’d better not say any more!"

"I know this and thank you, but that’s my son. He’s young, acknowledged his mistake. After seeing me yesterday, immediately said he’d change for good, no more drinking, no driving. Student Li, believe me, he’ll keep his word."

"So, how do you want to handle your son?"

"I... I wish Student Li would give him a chance to reform and be a new person."

Li Yifei shook his head again, said calmly, "I merely gave a statement at the time, didn’t inquire further, so the chance isn’t from me!"

Yue Ming showed a bit of joy, saying, "So, Student Li, you agreed? That’s great; I thank you for my child."

"You seem to misunderstand me; I wasn’t the one hurt or killed, but the lawbreaker must face legal punishment, no matter whose son he is or who he is. So you needn’t plead with me; I can’t punish him severely nor let him off!" Li Yifei reassured.

Yue Ming’s lips moved, asking, "So you’re saying..."

"I’m not saying anything, Yue Ming; I understand your feelings as a father, but if a child isn’t taught properly, it’s his parents’ fault. His transformation is your and his mother’s responsibility." Li Yifei replied.

Yue Ming seemed agitated, saying, "He drank too much, that’s why this happened; otherwise, he wouldn’t do this. He’s a good kid!"

"Then check the car’s violation records, see how many exposés are there online, examine his school history, and his bad deeds in high school. Your son likes games, right? Who settled that incident two years ago? What happened to the girl afterward? Yue Ming, think with your conscience before speaking; don’t overstep." Li Yifei’s expression remained indifferent.

As Yue Ming listened, he grew more frightened, eyes wide—Li Yifei knew all these things?

Li Yifei actually just glanced at the Twitter comments section; many participants shared revelations, detailed with names, places, and events much too specific to be merely rumors. Even if some were false, they couldn’t all be; these suffice to prove Yue Ming’s son is a scumbag, rotten from the start.
