Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2785 - 2847: We Meet Again
A few seconds later, the dark fat guy finally said, "You can have the house. I can’t fight with a woman over it."
"I don’t fight with men either. It’s given to you, so you live in it. We’re classmates after all." Wu Shuwei said.
The people around them nodded to themselves, impressed by Wu Shuwei’s generosity, and that made them even more curious about her identity. Not everyone was like Su Mengxin and the others, who had gotten the full name list in advance and even collected detailed information to help Li Yifei prepare, so several of the onlookers actually had no idea who Wu Shuwei was.
The dark fat guy’s face was burning, luckily his skin was dark and he was chubby, so you couldn’t really see it. If someone else had said that to him, he would’ve blown up already. But now that it was a gorgeous stranger, he figured he should act a bit more gentlemanly. So he laughed and said, "Alright, then thanks a lot, beauty. We’re all classmates here, we’ve got a long future ahead. I, Xiang Ba, am a particular kind of person—others always end up owing me; I never owe anybody anything."
As he spoke, Xiang Ba weighed the key in his hand and split his big mouth into a grin. "Everyone saw it, right? This villa was voluntarily given to me by that beauty. Now this is what you call lofty character. Too bad some people who come from rural areas up north basically have no quality at all."
There are plenty of jokes in this world, and one of them is uneducated people criticizing others for lacking education. It’s the kind of thing that makes you both angry and find it ridiculous. The most satisfying way to deal with it is to use Martial strength to crush the other side and let him know who’s really the one without any "quality." For a split second, Li Yifei just wanted to fling the suitcase in his hand and knock this black and stupid fatty flat.
His mindset wasn’t the same as just now. Earlier, he’d been mindful of the fact that they were classmates and of what the people around would think. But now that Wu Shuwei had stepped out to help him settle the trouble, besides being grateful, Li Yifei felt he had to do something himself. Letting a woman stand in front of him and take the bullet—that’s not who Li Yifei is.
So he stepped forward, his voice a bit cold. "Fatty, you’d better remember what you said today."
"Oh? And what if I remember? What if I don’t?" The fat guy, Xiang Ba, instantly felt provoked and said unhappily. This guy’s already hit the **** jackpot, getting to live with a beauty—what more does he want? Now he even comes over to threaten him? Fuck, does he really think I don’t dare throw a punch?
Seeing Li Yifei starting trouble again, Wu Shuwei couldn’t help shooting him a glare. Swaying her graceful steps, she walked up to Li Yifei, held out her hand, and said, "Do me a favor and give me the key, I want to go back and rest."
"Okay, let’s go together." Li Yifei understood what she meant, nodded to her, then turned to give the fat guy a look, picked up the suitcase with one hand and prepared to leave.
Everyone around sighed inwardly. Whether they were students in the advanced class or in other classes, seeing Li Yifei leave with the beauty, they couldn’t help feeling a twinge. The ones in the advanced class were practically wishing they’d been the ones in that dispute just now. After all, compared to provoking the fat guy, getting to live together with a beauty who had both status and looks was a much bigger draw. As for the former, everyone here has status and an ID card—who’s actually afraid?
Li Yifei’s mood wasn’t affected by the fat guy; if anything, he was starting to look forward to student life. After so many years, going back into campus life again, he’d thought it would feel bland and tasteless. He hadn’t expected to run into Wu Shuwei here.
If life were a game with clearly visible stats, then his luck and fate values with Wu Shuwei would definitely be maxed out, at the very top. Thinking back on the several times they’d met, there was barely a single planned encounter. Every time needed words like "happened to," "by chance," "coincidentally," and so on to describe it. This time was the same—who would’ve thought they’d run into each other again in a business school class like this.
If it weren’t for all the people around, Li Yifei might’ve grabbed Wu Shuwei’s hand and burst into a song called "This Is Fate," because there’s no explaining it.
They’d only taken a few steps when they heard a voice. This voice wasn’t all that unfamiliar to either Li Yifei or Wu Shuwei; they’d both heard it not long ago. The voice called out, "You two, please wait a moment!"
So Li Yifei and Wu Shuwei stopped at the same time and turned back to look at the person behind them. The guy was very handsome, with a good figure and all that. He walked over to the two with a smile on his face and said, "Hello, allow me to introduce myself. I’m Zhang Bai, also a student in this intake!"
Li Yifei remembered him, so he nodded. Wu Shuwei, on the other hand, didn’t react much at all. Clearly, she had a natural resistance to men who struck up conversations at doorways—she’d seen plenty of this type.
Zhang Bai let out an awkward little "eh," and his gaze had already shifted from Li Yifei to Wu Shuwei. From the way he was acting, Li Yifei instantly understood—looked like a fly had shown up.
"Miss Wu, we meet again!" Zhang Bai flashed a very handsome smile.
Wu Shuwei gave a slight nod, and Zhang Bai’s smile grew even brighter. "I just got assigned to Villa No. 8, right next to yours. Because of my work, I personally don’t come back to stay here very often."
"Mm." Wu Shuwei had already guessed what he was going to do, so her reaction was even more bland. Zhang Bai continued, "So, how about I give you the key? That way you don’t have to move into some other villa."
Saying that was basically ignoring Li Yifei completely. "Some other villa"...
"So what are you getting at?" Wu Shuwei asked.
Uh... Zhang Bai thought he’d made himself pretty clear. He couldn’t exactly say outright, "Let’s live together, don’t stay with that Country Bumpkin." To be fair, Zhang Bai had really put in some effort. He’d arrived later and hadn’t booked ahead. After he came in, he hurried to the registration desk and checked the records, learning that the beauty’s name was Wu Shuwei, a name he’d never heard before. So for the moment, he still didn’t know her family background or personal details. Seeing that she’d been assigned to Villa No. 7, all kinds of ideas popped into his head: living that close, he could visit in the evenings, perfectly aboveboard, and it could be framed as both official and friendly. For the latter, he could totally bring gifts; for the former, Zhang Bai was confident he had plenty to talk about—this was his knowledge reserve and source of confidence.
And then in the mornings, he could ask the beauty to go running with him—running was just a pretext. The conversations along the way, and little things that happened, could also spark something. When it came to picking up girls, Zhang Bai was even more confident; he even felt that if he went on some forums and started preaching his "pickup theory," he’d definitely get a following.
All of this had gone through Zhang Bai’s head in a short time. So he’d put in quite some effort to switch into Villa No. 8, hoping to stay close to the beauty. Sometimes people just have to trust eye contact and chemistry—Zhang Bai felt this was exactly a moment to believe in fate.
Who would’ve thought a dark fat guy would suddenly jump out and stir up trouble. By the time Zhang Bai rushed over, things were already wrapping up. He saw the beauty give up her own villa and choose to live in the same villa as that Country Bumpkin she’d come with on the bus. It almost made Zhang Bai’s eyes pop out. Fuck, what did that Country Bumpkin do to get so lucky? The two living in one villa didn’t necessarily mean anything would happen, but if something did happen, what was he supposed to do?
Zhang Bai panicked. He didn’t know the beauty, much less the Country Bumpkin, so at that point all he could do was run over and try to get closer.
My meaning? Hearing Wu Shuwei’s question, Zhang Bai wanted to say, My meaning is I want us to live in the same villa so it’ll be more convenient to do... stuff. Of course, that could only stay in his head. After a brief daze, he answered, "What I mean is... you can move into Villa No. 8. You don’t have to live with a stranger."
"And you?" Wu Shuwei asked immediately.
Zhang Bai seemed a little embarrassed as he smiled. "I only stay here once in a while, because work keeps me very busy..."
"Oh. You’re a stranger too." Wu Shuwei said, gave him a slight smile, and turned to leave.
"Bro, I’ve got a few words I want to say to you." As soon as Zhang Bai saw Wu Shuwei walk off with the key, he hurriedly called out to Li Yifei, who was also about to leave with his suitcase. The latter looked over when he heard him, and Zhang Bai said, "Uh... I’m Zhang Bai."
"You just said that." Li Yifei replied coolly. Zhang Bai choked on that, and muttered, "Uh, well, we’re gonna be classmates from now on. Can we talk this over, give me some face? Don’t worry, I, Zhang Bai, don’t ask for favors for nothing—I’ll definitely repay you in the future."
Li Yifei said nothing, so Zhang Bai continued, "Could we... swap rooms? I’ll live in Villa No. 8 alone, and you move into No. 8—I’ll go live in the villa you got."
"Why?" Li Yifei asked, expressionless.
Zhang Bai was annoyed inside but kept it in on the surface. "Well... to be honest, brother, this is the first time I’ve met that Miss Wu too. But... I believe in destiny. The moment I saw her, I felt like I’d kind of fallen for her. Really, I’m not joking. So I want to swap with you, so it’s easier for me to get to know Miss Wu!"
Li Yifei looked at him like he was an idiot. This guy’s intentions were way too obvious, and he’d even just say it out loud like that. Fuck, that’s my woman, Li Yifei thought. Oh, fine, there were still several layers of window paper between him and Wu Shuwei, and because of issues at home, Li Yifei had indeed become a lot more well-behaved lately and hadn’t gone to provoke her.
But that didn’t mean he was going to hand Wu Shuwei over. Besides, she wasn’t some commodity; it wasn’t about "giving or not giving." It was that Li Yifei couldn’t just watch this happen. So although this Zhang Bai did look a bit more pleasing to the eye than the fat guy, that didn’t stop Li Yifei from disliking him. He said, "Can’t help you."
"Why not? Brother, I’ll owe you a huge favor, really, I’ll definitely pay you back!" Zhang Bai was getting anxious.
