Super Soldier in the City
Chapter 2753 - 2815: Going to the Ye Family
This kind of thing happens once every few years, and Ye Yunzhu had been holding back for a long time recently, so she was particularly frenzied, coming twice in a row, finally unable to continue the fight. It was only with Li Yifei’s help to recover her strength that she came back to her senses. Fortunately, she had some ice cream before the fight, replenishing some energy; otherwise, there wouldn’t have been a second round.
The clothes were prepared in advance, so there were no wrinkles. Ye Yunzhu put on her clothes again, restoring that dignified demeanor, as if the alluring creature singing madly earlier wasn’t her. Li Yifei couldn’t help but find it amusing.
"Hubby, let’s not go back to Mile City today, okay?" Ye Yunzhu asked.
"Oh? Why’s that?" Li Yifei replied.
"I want to go home and take a look. Haven’t been back in a while." Ye Yunzhu said.
"Alright, let’s go check it out. Today, I saw one of your uncles, what was his name... I’ve forgotten!" Li Yifei said.
"How could you forget his name..." Ye Yunzhu rolled her eyes.
"It’s normal, he’s not your direct uncle, though he shares the last name Ye. He mentioned that your grandpa’s health isn’t very good, I thought we should go see him, maybe provide some care if needed." Li Yifei said,
"Hmm, let’s hurry up then! Can you still drive the car?" Ye Yunzhu curled up on the wide seat, asking.
"Can I still drive? Haha, let’s talk after you ask me seven more times." Li Yifei laughed.
Ye Yunzhu felt a lingering fear, shrinking her body, thinking even one more time would be too much, seven times could bleed her dry. Upon thinking of the word ’dry’, she said softly: "Hubby, how are you so strong, even the second round was so intense. I’m already nearly full after just these two times."
Just this sentence almost made Li Yifei stop the car to fight again, but feeling sorry for his wife’s health, he resisted. Desire like this, when shared with someone you love, is truly harmonious.
"Focus on driving, if I recover tonight... we can continue!" Ye Yunzhu teased.
Li Yifei kept nodding, agreeing verbally.
Driving Ye Yunzhu to the Ye family estate, although the Ye family is larger in number compared to the Li family, nowadays most have set up businesses outside, so there aren’t many at home usually. Ye Yunzhu didn’t inform them of her return; it was a last-minute decision influenced by Old Master Ye’s health. As they reached the estate entrance, they were stopped by the guard.
"I’m Li Yifei!" Li Yifei lowered the car window and said.
"Oh, oh, oh, sorry, we’ll open the gate right away!" The guard quickly replied upon seeing Li Yifei.
The car went in, and the Ye family members got the news. Seeing the son-in-law and Ye Yunzhu returned, they gathered around to chat. Li Yifei had a positive impression of the Ye family. When confronting the major families in the provincial capital, while the Ye family didn’t directly support them, they helped covertly. Li Yifei appreciated this favor, considering it would be ungrateful to forget.
After greeting each other, Ye Yunzhu and Li Yifei arrived at the old master’s residence, where even before entering, they could smell the scent of medicine. Ye Yunzhu felt a sinking feeling; though her relationship with the Ye family wasn’t strong, the elderly is still the elderly, especially with poor health, she felt saddened. She glanced at Li Yifei beside her, who held her hand, gently squeezed, and whispered: "Don’t worry, I’m here."
"Yes, let’s go in." Ye Yunzhu felt warmth inside.
Upon entering, they found the old master indeed in poor condition. In colloquial terms, he seemed somewhat emaciated, his complexion looking bad, eyes half-open and half-closed, appearing half-asleep. Upon hearing footsteps, the old master moved slightly, his gaze appearing bewildered, taking several seconds before acknowledging their arrival: "Oh, it’s Yunzhu and Yifei, come sit!"
During the conversation, he seemed to regain some energy, propping himself up and sitting upright, asking: "Why have you come?"
"Grandpa." The two greeted.
"Ah, let me know beforehand so I can freshen up a bit. With this change in weather temperature, I’ve fallen ill. You know once you’re old, how quickly health deteriorates? In my younger days, even in such temperatures, I wouldn’t catch a cold running bare-chested in deep winter." The old master suddenly opened up, rambling on.
Both Yunzhu and Li Yifei understood his rambling. He was the head of the Ye family, the patriarch, with many sons and daughters, and even more grandchildren. Yet, elderly are often lonely, especially at times like this, there are too few at home to chat with. Earlier, when Li Yifei and Ye Yunzhu arrived, quite a few family members came out to greet them, but none were important figures. It suggested... that the sons, daughters, and grandchildren were largely out, leaving the old man alone in a daze rather than truly asleep.
"Grandpa, let Yifei check your health later!" Ye Yunzhu said sitting down.
"It’s just a cold, once recovered, I can go practice tai chi again!" Old Master Ye replied.
No need for tai chi; walking normally is good enough, Li Yifei thought while looking at the old master, though aloud he said: "Better to take a look. Grandpa, you’re the backbone of the Ye family; can’t let your health fail."
"Sigh, you really have a clear perspective, Yifei. I indeed must stay standing; otherwise, for the Ye family... maintaining the current wealth would be fortunate without mentioning the Ten Major Families." The old master spoke with some excitement.
"Don’t get too worked up, really!" Li Yifei quickly said. He was essentially an outsider, and Yunzhu was married, both unfamiliar with the Ye family’s internal affairs, and seeing the old master’s manner suggested some issues. Yet, since the elder didn’t say, they couldn’t really ask.
Once the old master calmed a bit, Li Yifei said: "I might as well check now. The earlier the treatment, the sooner you recover."
"Yes, grandpa, let Yifei check first, we’ll chat once you’re feeling better."
"Alright, let you check. I’ve accepted getting old; had I known my health would be like this, I would have practiced harder back then to maintain a good physique." The old master continued his rambling, showing he truly has the desire but lacks the strength, undeniably aging, with serious physical problems.
After a thorough examination, Li Yifei was increasingly skilled, feeling even if he couldn’t do anything else, he could become a doctor, independently founding a True Qi healing method—just joking. The old master had many minor ailments, mostly accrued over years. Some weren’t certain to be roots, given his age and poor condition. Li Yifei feared the old man’s life expectancy might be approaching its limit, but he did his utmost.
Over two hours, he helped clear the old master’s body of ailments, removing some hidden dangers. The elder woke up feeling significantly better, even able to walk, standing straighter, and didn’t rely on a cane.
It’s astonishing how swiftly aging progresses. Though the old master isn’t young, he was still a healthy elderly man when seen a couple of years ago.
While Li Yifei stepped outside to take a phone call, Ye Yunzhu stayed with the old master to chat. The elder asked about her work-related matters, and Yunzhu mostly responded about work. Regarding personal life, Yunzhu confessed she didn’t worry much.
The old master was quite content, originally concerned about Li Yifei, someone with so many women, questioning if he could indeed bring happiness to Ye Yunzhu. Now his expectations were exceeded.
"He’s a good child, but you’ve come back this time without bringing my little great-granddaughter; I really miss her!"
"I came for a meeting this time, but next month I’ll bring the child back!"
"Good, then I’ll wait for next month," the old master said childishly, evoking a sense of anticipation to see the child in the coming month. In a way, it felt somewhat pitiful.
Li Yifei stood at the door for a moment, realizing not only him, but Su Mengxin’s grandfather, Su Lio’s grandfather, and the parents and grandparents of the other women at home had all reached a certain age. Their health couldn’t possibly be great. These people might be passing any day.
Humans are strong and resilient, yet sometimes extremely fragile. If he could elevate his cultivation one more level, could he save them? Li Yifei didn’t have an answer, but he longed to find one, possessing an inexplicable confidence that he could make breakthroughs, just like in the past with seemingly impossible feats he achieved in reality.
At night, the more spirited old master summoned his children and grandchildren in the provincial capital to return. With the granddaughter and grandson-in-law back, he certainly wished to host a family feast. However, after several calls were made, only a few returned, with others either occupied with urgent matters or simply unreachable.
It’s a big family! Observing the old master’s mixed expression of anger and helplessness, Li Yifei felt somewhat empathetic. He wasn’t mocking; thinking about child-rearing, the responsibilities of parents and teachers are significant, yet sometimes it’s sheer luck. Some kids, well-raised or not, become good people, normal citizens, while others regardless of how much guidance they receive, end up poorly behaved.
Such incidents are abundant; within major families, surely there are rotten apples?
How to prevent them, Li Yifei had a method: he could live a few more years, overseeing the children’s growth. With his influence, even brash ones wouldn’t act too outrageously.
Li family children can be ordinary, but they cannot be morally corrupt, like the unscrupulous Rich Second Generation. If in the future, such descendants emerge, Li Yifei, if able, won’t hesitate to correct them—definitely not lenient—in holding this belief. Realizing such attitudes, the women worked hard in nurturing their children, ensuring major mistakes are corrected, aspiring for them to cultivate good habits and grow into healthy individuals.
